Kingdom Come: Deliverance II – Troubleshooting Guide

How to Fix Common Issues with KCD2

General Troubleshooting Checklist

  • Update hardare drivers (especially GPU) using DDU for clean reinstalls. Please note: DDU should be used in safe mode for 100 % certainty.
  • Confirm Windows is up to date and you have a stable windows version, not an insider build.
  • Restart PC or console in a full, cold boot.
  • Disable Vsync or scaling technologies (e.g., GPU/display scaling). Do not use FSR, found near Vsync settings in menu.
  • Delete shader cache or game folders (see Common Fixes).
  • Verify game files via Steam/Epic Games launcher.

Common Fixes

Shader Cache Issues:

Rename or delete shaders cache to force rebuild. Path:

%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\kingdomcome2\shaders

For some players who have lag: exit the game, delete shaders, restart the game, load their save, and then delete shaders again while the game is running.

After deleting the cache, the game starts once and creates a new one. When you try start it again, it will crash again, but if you clear the cache again, everything starts normally.

Game Folder Reset:

Delete contents in:

%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\kingdomcome2\

And delete whatever is in the folder “kingdomcome2” Resolves crashes at loading screens, black screens, and corrupted saves.

Increase Loading Times

Important: An update for folks having increased load times (5sec -> 60sec and so on…)

I have somehow managed to get my loading speeds to return to normal, I am not sure if this is a total coincidence or if something I did triggered it.

Here’s what I had already tried but had no effect:

  • Updated Windows and Restarted PC.
  • Reinstalled GPU Drivers.
  • Cleared GPU Shader Cache by deleting the folder:
    • C:/Users/{User_Name}/Saved Games/kingdomcome2/shaders.
  • Verified Steam Files.

Note: I was already 40+ hours into my playthrough, as such I never rerolled my save to a point where the loading was normal.

Here’s the series of events that happened that caused my save time to return back to normal:

  • Disabled “DSR – Factors” in Nvidia App (Global Setting) [I did this because I noticed KCD and some of my other games were showing up in 1440p on my 1080p monitors, I had already disabled this, but a recent Nvidia App update caused them to re-enable]
  • Progressed through the wedding quest – more specifically, I noticed my load times became instant the moment I went to the Wedding. (It’s not a change per se, but it’s a particular point after which this issue seemed to have been gone altogether, maybe the devs can have a look on how the save system works before and after this particular story point which may help them narrow the bug down)

If more people who have the same Loading issue can get to this particular story point and verify my hypothesis, that would be greatly appreciated!

Crashes

  • Post-Intro Cutscene Crash (Godwin Scene) – Fix: Turn off VSync and lower graphics settings. Re-enable settings gradually after stability test.
  • Persistent CTD (Crash to Desktop) – Disable GPU/display scaling technologies (e.g., Nvidia DSR, AMD VSR).
  • Run event viewer.

WHgame.dll Issue

Guys, for the WHGame.dll problem:

  1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v10.0A\bin\NETFX 4.8 Tools
  2. Copy and paste WHGame.dll there.
  3. Shift + right-click somewhere in that folder and click “Open PowerShell window here”
  4. Type in “.\GacUtil.exe -i WHGame.dll” and press Enter.
  5. Try to start the game.
  • Make sure the game is saved to the same drive as the launcher (i.e., if the launcher is on C: but the game is on D: drive, move them to the same drive, such as D: if there is enough space)
  • Ensure there is enough free space on the drive (at least 20% should be free)
  • Download the newest VC redistributable from the official Microsoft page.

If you complete the above step, also run a System File Checker:

  1. Open Command Prompt with administrator permissions.
  2. Run:
    • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  3. Then run:
    • sfc /scannow
  4. Fully shut down the PC and restart the programs
  5. Run the game as administrator and disable fullscreen optimizations

Bink2w64.dll in Your System32 Folder

  • Delete “bink2w64.dll” from the below locations:
    • C:\Windows\SysWOW64-C:\Windows\System32
  • Run command prompt as administrator.
  • Paste the following into command prompt and run it:
    • Run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  • Once that has ran, copy and paste this into command prompt:
    • sfc /scannow
  • Finally, then verify file integrity on Steam.

Or, copy the bink2w64.dll file from Bin\Win64Shared to Bin\Win64MasterMasterSteamPGO.

Lag or Stuttering

For some players who have lag: exit the game, delete shaders, restart the game, load their save, and then delete shaders again while the game is running.

Display & Resolution Issues

Ultrawide Support (21:9 or 32:9 Aspect Ratios)

Press Win+R -> search for “%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\kingdomcome2\profiles\default” -> Open “attributes.xml” using Notepad -> Change the “hfov” value to 130 -> Save and close the file -> Start the game.

The value can be changed in this file to any value you want, but don’t try to change it in-game since that only goes up to 110.

32:9 FOV

The FOV you set through settings calculates the cl_fov in console – 110 in settings means the value of cl_fov is ~75. You can adjust this number in the console as you wish. The blur can be turned off at the bottom of the graphics settings.

Black Screen with Audio

Delete contents in: %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\kingdomcome2\ and delete whatever is in the folder “kingdomcome2”.

UI & Localization

Corrupted Fonts (Squares in Menu)

Go to Steam\steamapps\common\Kingdom Come\bin and right clicked Kingdom Come.exe>properties and under compatibility, checked the box to “run the program as admin” & “disable full screen optimization”.

Download Language Packs

  • Steam: Steam library -> Right click on the game in Library -> Properties -> choose your language.
  • Epic: Epic library -> click on the three dots next to the game’s name -> options.

Reported Error Paths

AMD Driver Crash:

  • File:
    • C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\u0410212.inf_amd64_daae2c8b5eb35aaa\B409877\amdxx64.dll
  • Solution:
    • Update AMD drivers or clean install with DDU. Please note: DDU should be used in safe mode for 100 % certainty.

PS5 Issues

Flickering Screen:

Disable VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) in console settings.

Invalid Keybinds State

Go to %userprofile%/Saved Games/kingdomcome2/profiles/default/attributes.xml download and replace file with this one (Google Drive).

Hardware and Peripherals Issues

Steel Series headset: No Dialogue Audio During Cutscenes.

The fix that worked for me was turning off any spatial audio / apps that affect the output from your PC and then launching the game.

I have a Steel Series headset and had to enable the Spatial Sound setting. Didn’t even have to restart the game as the next cinematic cutscene I went into with dialogue automatically had sound again. All the background sound and music was present before but just not the voices of the characters.

Logitech / Logitech Ghub:

Turn off app.

Cursor Glitches:

Mouse cursor showing on the screen while moving around.

I cllicked the arrow on the bottom right of my task bar, right clicked Overwolf, and pressed EXIT. And it worked. No more flashing cursor.

Bluetooth Controllers or Devices

May cause micro-stuttering and frame drops despite super high FPS. Disconnecting / un-pair the bluetooth controller from PC, and re-pair.

Xbox Controller on PC Not Working Even Though Its Connected

Hold the PAIR button until it flashes quickly, wait for pc to ask if it will connect. Do it and then after success just press the pair again so it stops blinking and it works again. If using DSX, the steam app, with dualsense; disable steam controller input along with using DSX.

Other things to try:

Check Steam Controller settings:

  • Open Steam, go to “Settings” > “Controller” > “General Controller Settings”
  • Make sure “Xbox Configuration Support” is enabled
  • Verify your controller is detected and listed in the recognized controllers

Update controller drivers:

  • Go to your Device Manager, find your Xbox controller, right-click and select “Update driver”
  • Choose “Search automatically for updated driver software” and install any available updates

Check game-specific controller settings:

  • Right-click on the game in your Steam library, go to “Properties” > “Controller”
  • Make sure the controller is enabled and the settings are configured correctly for that game

Restart Steam and PC:

  • Sometimes a simple restart can fix connection issues

Try a wired connection:

  • If you’re using a wireless connection, try plugging your controller in with a USB cable to see if that resolves the issue

Keybind Changes

Number Bindings – mod to allow you to change the number bindings.

Recommended Mods

To install a mod: Make a Mods folder in the main game directory folder. Drop extracted mods inside the Mods folder. Double check mod instructions to ensure there are not further special instructions to install it.

Put “-devmode” in the Steam > Launch Options line. Put “-devmode +exec” if also using a user.cfg file.
