The Book of Virtues and Wisp General Information

Wisps are created when using the Book of Virtues. Without any additional items, one use creates a single blue wisp which orbits around Isaac and fires in the same direction. Most wisps have two health which means they can block two shots before being destroyed, wisps are also destroyed when colliding with an enemy which is almost always instantly.

The book of virtues is the starting item for Bethany, and can be unlocked as an item after defeating Isaac as Bethany, although Bethany is the only character who can charge the item using soul / black hearts.

The book of virtues has the unique mechanic where it synergizes with the currently held spacebar item (the active item) instead of being replaced by it. Most active items will replace the wisp summoned, changing its appearance and properties. The amount of charges required to activate can also change.

Normal Wisps (Light Blue Wisps)

A single normal wisp is created when the book of virtues is used without any other active item combined.

Normal wisps deal around 3 damage (slightly below the average base damage of 3.5) and have 2 health, after being hit for the first time their size will decrease and the second hit will result in them being destroyed.

Normal wisps orbit close to Isaac and will gradually group up as more wisps are created to a maximum of 16 wisps.
