Across the Obelisk – Charge Explanatory Guide

For example, gain one charge, or lose one charge, when playing a card? Did you know what it means? If don’t than read below.

What Does Charge Mean

When you right click a card and hover over it it will explain what each of the symbols mean on a card.

“Charge” however is a term used to indicate the number of stacks that a buff or debuff has on it. Each symbol does something different. As i stated earlier you would have to hover over the card to learn what each symbol means.

For instance the burn debuff. Gives whoever has burn -0.5% fire resistance and they take 1 fire damage at the start of their turn for each charge. So if they have 10 stacks of burn, they take 10 damage and have -5% fire resistance.

Examples and Explanation

Examples

For example Evelyn’s Transmission card states:

  • Energize: Gain 1 extra energy per charge at the start of the turn, then remove all charges. Can’t be purged unless specified.
  • Inspire: Draw one extra card per charge at the start of the turn, then remove all charges. Can’t be purged unless specified.

Explanation

If a card gives +1 Energize (aka 1 Energize charge), the character will get an extra point of Energy at the beginning of their next turn.

Same for Inspiration with card draw.

Since you can stack multiple cards with +1 Energize (and a few cards even give 2 Energize charges at once), they accumulate and at the beginning of your next turn they all get converted into actual Energy. Same for cards with Inspiration.

Similar to any other kind of stacking buff like Poison or Bless, just that these others can be affected by Purge/Dispel and have different timings and speeds at which they decay. Usually they decay slowly (1-2 charges per turn) whereas Energize and Inspiration only trigger once.
