Ultimate Guide to Gameplay

Troubleshooting and Settings Part

Issue: Camera keeps pulling up towards the sky

Solution: If you have a gamecube/Nintendo controller then remove the drivers related to them which helped in the meantime. Also you can try to enable steam input for all controllers in the game properties.

Issue: No sound

Solution: it is to disable output devices until you find the one(s) that FMOD doesn’t like.

Issue: Fell into a bottomless pit

Solution: Maybe your “fall damage” is turned off. Turn it back on in the assist settings.

Settings for better performance

Settings i adjusted are:

  • Max Frame Rate – 120 FPS
  • Anistropic filtering – 16x
  • Antialiasing mode – override any application setting.
  • Antialiasing setting – 8x
  • Low Latency Mode – Ultra
  • If your monitor is Gsync compatible make sure its on.
  • Triple buffering – on
  • V-sync – fast

Useful Gameplay Tips and Tricks

  • You can respec attributes, but you need a shark tooth to do so, two can be found in the pawn shop.
  • Blue Fire meter – it’s a status effect that builds up until you’re frightened; status buildup is reduced by your resistance rating and a few different stowaways. It’s like that so you can roll away to avoid it, same as status effects in the souls games.
  • Moveset does change depending on the skill tree selections you make, like a spinning move after a dodge or the ability to slam down with the fork, etc.
  • The weapon itself gains new textures as you upgrade it. The skill tree offers new movesets aswell. However for an exclusive new weapon moveset there is the “hammer” skill tree point where you can use a shell as a hammer.
  • Hooks are used as ammunition for an ability you unlock via skill tree.
  • The melee weapon itself will probably not change, though said skill tree contains abilities expanding its moveset.
  • As you unlock umami powers, you’ll have access to shell spells and to combat abilities that can be obtained from bosess.
  • There’s a setting to disable microplastic loss on death, if it’s that big of a deal to you, just toggle it on and then kill yourself.
  • But by late game the game showers so much microplastics especially if you got fruit stickers on you that its not a big deal if you lose them.

Mantis Shrimp Boss

I beat him through normal gameplay, no gun… Didn’t parry any attacks either.

For his teleport attack he has two variations:

  1. The variation that happens during the sandstorm.
  2. The variation that happens with no sandstorm.

For variation one, you dodge to the left or right as soon as he appears.

For variation two, you dodge to the left or right a few moments after he appears (need to get the timing down) If you dodge at the wrong time, you won’t have enough recovery time to time the dodge correctly the second time.

Now his other attacks

  1. His attack where he stands up straight then does some sort of combo punch followed by a big punch after:

As soon as he stands up, dodge backwards, then you will need to dodge back 1-2 more times after. Once you get the timing down, you can do the last dodge diagonally to his side to get an attack in.

  1. His attack where he punches two times in a row in a cleaving motion

For this one you want to dodge backwards for the first hit, then diagonally towards him for the second hit (to get an attack in)

He might have a 3rd attack but I don’t recall what it is.

The big thing about this boss he requires patience, since he is so fast, you only get one to two good strikes in per opening. I used the Party Hat shell because the shotgun blast is very very strong.

I had way more trouble with the The Consortium and his gimmick because basically any attack he hit me with (except gun blast aoe) killed me instantly… I had to beat The Consortium flawlessly without taking any hits.

Pagurus the Ravenous Secret

There is a prawn stuck in a bong somewhere in Roland’s Junk Area. If you free him from the bong using the mantis punch ability he will tell you a juicy secret. The secret being Pagurus, the guardian of the sands between, is in fact allergic to bananas.

Honestly I thought the game was gas lighting me like “haha funny npc” but no. I tried this myself unfortunately not recording gameplay, but it was true! While wearing the banana shell and getting hit by Pagurus’s unblockable attack (the red one) he will swallow your banana shell.

This deals 3/4ths of his health. If you have the ability to turn your shell into a hammer you can store an extra banana on you to kill him completely.
