Find Rolan in the Shadows Quest

If Rolan was convinced to defend the Druid Grove in Act One and the Grove was defended during Save the Refugees, Rolan appears in the Last Light Inn.

Rolan is found at the Ruined Battlefield.

He is at the bar (X:-78, Y:148) drunkenly arguing with two tiefling children, Umi and Ide, who are refusing to give him more alcohol. If the party talks to him, he blames them for the loss of his siblings Cal and Lia, who were taken after a group of Absolute cultists ambushed the refugees.

Rolan wanted to abandon the refugees and go their own way, but the party convinced him to stay and made Cal and Lia feel like heroes. He doesn’t know if they’re alive or dead, and he is determined to save them himself.

Regardless of if the party speaks to Rolan or not, he disappears after Resolve the Abduction. The party can find him at the southern end of the Ruined Battlefield and southeast of the Reithwin Tollhouse (X:-52 and Y: -110).

When the party gets close to his location, he is attacked by several Shadows. If the party joins the battle and saves him, he admits he was trying to get to Moonrise Towers to see if his siblings were there. He is upset that the party had to rescue him, but agrees to return to the Inn, where he’ll wait for his family to return.

Notes

If this quest is not completed before the player enters Shadowfell in Find the Nightsong, then Rolan will die.

If the party gets too close to Rolan but either leaves or Long Rests, Rolan will die from the Shadows.
