Baldur’s Gate 3 – How to Get 4 Custom Characters for 2 Players, 2 Characters Each

Hello there, a friend of mine (@RedMilan02) and I where trying to get 4 custom characters into one playthrough (both of us able to controll 2 characters each!).

We tried to find anything about it but nothing popped up. Now we kinda figured it out and this is how it´s possible.

Step by Step Guide

Сrеdit gоеs to !

(Preperation: Lower your settings to the absolute minimum to avoid crashes or laggs!)

Step 1: Go on Steam and “right click” baldurs gate 3, “manage” and then “browse local files”. Now you should be in your game directory for Baldurs gate 3.

Step 2: Open the “bin” folder. Now you should see 2 “.exe” for Baldurs.

Step 3: Close Steam completly (look it up in your task manager if your not sure if it´s ded.)

Step 4: Open 2 instances of “bg3_dx11.exe” (Important to only launch the “dx11” one. The normal .exe won´t work!)

Step 5: (Remember what instance is your main instance! Should be the first one that was started!) Now open a multiplayer game in “LAN”. When it´s open click “direct connect” and you should see a code. Copy the code for your other instance and/or friend.

Step 6: Connect with your other instances with your code (same for your friend). Ready up and start the story.

Step 7: Create your characters and your guardian then move on. You should now be in the ship with 4 characters.

Step 8: Leave the game with your second (or more) instances so only you (and your friend) remain. There should be 2 characters now without a player. Those will be automatically assigned to the host of the game.

Step 9: To fix that you can simply press “ESC” and then click “multiplayer”. There will be a window with 4 slots. 2 Of them now empty.(those are the instances that already left the game) The other 2 are you and your friend. You can simply click on the arrow for the character you would like to move. This character will now be assigned to your friend.

Step 10: Play the game and have fun!

P.S: Don´t forget to change your graphic settings back to normal.
