How to Become a Pro Angler

Getting Your Rod

Make your way to the blue portal out of the first area, then take a higher leveled portal to an area that looks like this.

Weapon altar spawns are not guaranteed, so you may have to try a few times. The fishing rod will be in this area on one of the weapon altars. Bring a potion, the compressor, or the grappling hook with you.

Then, after you’ve secured the rod, take it back to the blue area you went to orginally to get here. (You can also fish in the final boss room, if you really want to.)

Fishing 101

This icon on the bottom-left side represents your Fishing Meter. The left side is tension, the right side is how close you are to catching the fish. To get started, right click, then wait. ( I found waiting around 15 seconds kiting enemies is enough time to wait for a bite, as I don’t believe there’s any visual indicator you have something on the line.)

As you fish, try to keep your tension low by spamming right click and dodging enemies. If you pull too fast, the line will snap and you’ll have to try again. Keep in mind, there are no breaks! You will have to fish and fight at the same time.

Once you’ve gotten the fish meter in the full green, he will show up! Simply run into him to grab him. It will unlock an achievement, as will as give you 5 hp (regardless of if you have max health) and 5 gubbins.
