Fae Farm – How Co-Op Works

Co-Op Explained

The Owner determines what the Guest is able to access and discover, based upon how much progress the Owner has made. As a Guest, I played about 18 hours with the Owner and the save file had no issues. He saved, we turned our Nintendo Switches off, we came back another day to play again. He loads up his World, I tried joining Local, and there was an “error” that disconnected my loading attempt and forced me back to the main menu. Tried reconnecting, connected, and found everything on the Guest’s side had been reset and was even missing the formerly-owned tools (basically it set you back to where you only had a scythe to your name and you had to get the other tools by talking to the mayor).

The multiplayer is fun, but it’s more like having an extra set of hands to help you harvest while the pair of you go around talking to the residents and work together to take care of the farm. There’s no other perk you get having other players in there, and it’s set on the same path as if you were playing solo. Experience isn’t shared; if the Owner puts berries up to be chopped and the Guest retrieves them, the Guest is the one that levels the Cooking experience and vice-versa. Tools also require upgrade materials from both sides, so even a Guest won’t just start off with Copper-level tools and must go through the same motions the Owner did to collect and upgrade. Some quests are completed at the same time and can be concluded for all players present, however; that’s the only shared mechanic I noticed in Multiplayer.

I love games and I live games. Video games are my passion, my hobby and my job. My experience with games started back in 1994 with the Metal Mutant game on ZX Spectrum computer. And since then, I’ve been playing on anything from consoles, to mobile devices. My first official job in the game industry started back in 2005, and I'm still doing what I love to do.
