Currently, this is the role with the lowest skill floor but the highest skill ceiling. Its super hard to get the hang of, but if you do get good at it, you are the most impactful player on the pitch.
Comprehensive Guide to Keeper
By LeadBugPuffin
Broom
Brooms are very confusing for keepers. But the only stats that affect keeper movement are Acceleration and Maneuver Speed.
- Acceleration – How fast you reach max speed from stand still (Might be wrong about this exactly, but it does affect how fast you change directions).
- Maneuver Speed – How fast you reach zero speed when slowing down.
- Swiftstick
- Cleansweep
- Nimbus
Skill Tree
To stop goals, I recommend 6-1-3. If you are super confident in your goal-stopping abilities, go 1-6-3. If you have given up or just want to ignore stopping goals, you can invest more into attacking
Defense
- None of the defense skill tree matter except for the final upgrade, Boost Strafe.
- Don’t commit anywhere between 2-5 points. Either commit 6 points or ignore the tree and maybe put one in if you have extra.
- Auto grab hitbox size is way too small to be consistent enough to rely on even after you get all 3 bonuses to its size.
Teamwork
- All of these upgrades are good.
- They affect the rings the BOT keeper places, which is super helpful.
- Only invest if you are already good at defending the goals really well.
Attacking
- Upgrade 2 is a must so that you can Super Kick.
- Upgrade 4 is a detriment to stopping goals from being scored. No question. You are wrong if you think otherwise.
- Anything past upgrade 3 is good if you want to kill seekers super consistently. No uses for blocking goals.
Mechanics
- When using boost strafe, you lose boost meter when holding your boost button, not when moving while holding your boost button, so take your finger off when you aren’t in a mad dash.
- Kicking drastically increases the size of your hitbox, so kicking when the quaffle is nearby or when a chaser is nearby is super useful. I’ve even kicked chasers that were fully behind my character because of how big the hitbox is.
- Super kick gives you a huge AOE where everything on your side of the pitch is essentially dealt half their health bar in damage. It is amazing.
- To Super Kick, you must charge a kick to the top of your bar, then release while the quaffle is near you. Also, you get a free super kick after being scored on.
Playstyle
It is widely seen that there are 2 ways to play keeper, aggressive and reaction. Aggressive is when you push far out and try to steal the quaffle before chaser the chance to score, and reaction is where you stay right on your hoops and dive between hoops. Both of these are bad.
What I describe below is a PASSIVE playstyle where the goal is to give chasers no good options and hand you the quaffle when they run out of time.
- Play as far out as you can to cut off shooting and passing angles.
- When chasers start to approach you, back up so that you are always directly in front of them.
- Draw an imaginary line between the chaser with the quaffle and the middle of your hoops, and play on that line.
- When you think they’re going to shoot, charge a kick.
Chaser Tendencies
- The most common shot people will do is fly straight to one of your side goals, dodge when they get near you, then shoot at your other side goal, which is now directly in front of them after dodging. Just stay in front of them while hedging toward the center of your rings, then use boost to quickly move to follow their dodge. If your reaction time is good enough, you are just as fast as the dodge
- Another tendency is to fly at super extreme angles and shoot at the far hoop. Pushing far out toward them cuts off all their shooting angles, so you don’t need to even know where they are aiming.
