Gameplay Tips and Tricks for New Players
Seeker Tips
- Priorities the snitch!
- As soon as the count down has begun pass the ball to a team mate and switch to your seeker.
- Hit every possible gold ring to advance in the progress meter faster.
- If your rival has cough up press (Y/Triangle) to knock them off their path to get them off track giving you the upper edge.
- Communicate with your beater as he will be a key role to your success in catching the snitch.
Abuse the Seeker
Capturing the snitch requires no skill, just mash the capture button when the bar is full, it’s a broken feature with no downsides whatsoever.
Get the homing bump perk, takes away all the skill necessary to do bumps and it’s just the second perk in the last line, easy to get.
With those 2, seeker gameplay is down to just flying and dodging, with the 100% boost from rings perk even flying becomes easier because the rings are mostly optional at that point, passing through 1 every 3 rings is enough to maintain full boost.
Fundamental Keeper Strategy
One of the best things to do as keeper is move back and forth between two goals, this makes the chaser choose the 3rd open goal, which you know they’ll be more likely to choose as opposed to the two goals you’re swapping between. Then you just block the goal they choose last second. Your goal blocking success rate will rise dramatically just from implementing this.
Sweeper Keeper Philosophy
An aggressive style of goalkeeping, you make yourself as big as possible in front of the incoming chaser.
Imagine a cone in front of the chaser, that is the area they are able to throw the quaffle.
If you hold your ground at the rings that’s more area to cover. If the chaser manages to trick you to one ring they can easily switch rings and the keeper would require sharp reflexes to dive to the new ring.
Getting up in front of the chaser means a smaller cone, and less room for the chaser to shoot. normally they’re already winding up the throw, so they have no choice but to abort and toss the ball, or throw it anyway, right into your hands.
Drifting
Drifting is one of the most crucial maneuvers to leveling up your game with nearly all positions!
Executing is straightforward – simply hold the drift input while turning in a direction to aim the Chaser, Seeker, or Beater in a different direction than your momentum is carrying you. This can be used by Chasers to accurately pass to a teammate who is flying alongside or behind them, or to change the goal you are aiming at without changing your flight path.
Seekers can use drift to help make tighter turns, or even make quick 180 degree turns when pursuing the Snitch!
Shovel Pass
Shovel passing is an advanced maneuver Chasers can perform to pass the Quaffle to Chasers around them.
To perform a shovel pass, tap the ‘special’ input, and then immediately use a directional input (left/right/up to throw the Quaffle in that direction, or down to throw it behind you). For control schemes – such as ‘Broom Racer’ that allow for it, you can also hold the ‘special’ input while using a directional input.
Pay attention to the blue arrows surrounding your character, which will let you know when your fellow Chasers are nearby, and don’t forget to call for a pass to let a teammate know you’re open!
Vertical Camera Tilt
Fly Like a Pro!
This setting under ‘Gameplay Settings’ allows you to set how much your camera tilts with your character while you fly up and down. A lower value will keep your camera more flat – good for those who may experience disorientation with flight.
However, a higher value allows for snappier, immersive movement, as well as more range when aiming up or down at goals and players. Experiment to find the value that works best for your playstyle!
Gamepad Presets
While most actions can be rebound to any input,, there are two main control presets for gamepad that players may enjoy, depending on their personal gaming style:
- Sharpshooter – This control scheme uses a ‘dual stick’ approach and may feel more comfortable to players who play first or third-person character-based games. Accelerate and reverse with the left stick, while steering with the right. More common actions are on the shoulder buttons and triggers with this scheme.
- Broom Racer – This layout may be more comfortable to players who like racing games or other vehicle-based sports. The right trigger accelerates, and the left thumbstick steers in this mode, leaving the right thumb free to interact with the face buttons for more common actions.
Experiment with both schemes, or create your own variant to calibrate your broom just the way you want it! And with any mapping, make sure to also try inverted and non-inverted flight as well as steering sensitivity values to make sure your broom responds just the way you like it!
