Lethal Company – The Drill Easter Egg

A quick look at the drill that lies beneath Gordion 71.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

This guide contains spoilers about the lore of the game that is told via Sigurds tapes that are scattered all around the moons.

What Is That Thing Beneath The Company Building?

According to data that has been mined by users of the unofficial Lethal company discord it’s a drill that has 2 slots for apparatuses, this is even more clear when you take a look at it, it seems like it has a big drill bit and it also has tracks that lead straight to the wall of the company building, this basically debunks the theory that it is a submarine, if it was a submarine it would have a hatch and a clear place to go but as of right now the frontal part of the “submarine” is facing the walls way so it is clearly a drill.

Where Is It Located

As of right now in order to go to it you must go to the Company Building once you’re there, take a left from where the ship lands and you’re going to find a hatch, open the hatch and go down, once you’re there instead of following the catwalk jump on the metal beam, once you’re there jump again to the beam on your right, go straight until you have to jump again to your left, once you’re on the giant metal platform you have to check for a switch placed right behind the drill, if you press it the lights will flick on. When you want to get back, jump to the catwalk again and follow it to the ladder.

Can You Interact With It?

As of right now (version 40) you are not able to do anything with the drill apart from turning on the light switches of the platform, but this is probably going to be changed sooner or later, in some future update you’re probably going to be able to place the two required apparatuses on the drill making it functional, this is probably real because as of right now, apparatuses don’t serve any real purpouse apart from having a never changing price of 80, radiation increasing doesn’t seem to do anything, it just spawns 2 random enemies at random vents and that’s about it.

Theories and Lore

Well, you’ve made it this far and you want to know the purpouse of the drill, but I’ll have to tell you some lore before.

In the logs that Sigurd left scattered all around the moons there is a particular thing that stands out when you want to understand the lore behind the drill. Particularly “Sound behind the wall” and “Screams”, in the Sound behind the wall log he details how he hears “crying red faces all churned up and swept away by concrete” behind the wall of the Company Building but apparently no one else heard those sounds. In the Screams log he says that if you bring up a walkie talkie to the wall you are able to hear the screams of the things that are trapped behind the wall through it.

As a bonus in the “Swing of things” log, Sigurd details how his flashlight didnt illuminate at all the hole from which Jeb the “representative” takes the items.

Theory Crafting

The lore makes it pretty clear that something is not going how it’s supposed to be going. The screams behind a wall, the inability to illuminate or see anything inside, the drill, hell why is there such a giant cube of concrete in the middle of nowhere in a foreign planet.

My theory is that Sigurd’s crew left the drill built and they knew about the battery that apparatuses gave to the facilities and they thought about using it in their own project. But it seems like before they could collect the stuff needed to give it power and make a hole to finally see what is behind the wall they inevitably died.

Apparently from the 1960s (the date that the logs got written by Sigurd) to the 2050s (the date that the players crew takes place) no one found the drill and it has been sitting there waiting to be used for discovering what secret lies behind that wall. The fact that a phrase like “Don’t tell” is there really solidifies the fact that the Company wasn’t responsible for that and it was a crews plan to make that.

There arent even that many logs yet the lore is very interesting.

    • I would like it being a submarine but i dont think thats the case, people have extracted the texture names of that thing and it said it was a BigDrill and it said ApparatusSlot so i do think that it is a drill, i wouldve liked driving a submarine to a hidden lab or something but that sadly isnt the case

  1. Where did you get the information that the game takes place in 2050s? The intro screen contains a copyright marked as 2084-2108, which, from my experience with these kinds of messages, means that either the events of the game are in 2108 or the software the “in-game whatever displays that” is running is from that time and the game takes place significantly later.

    • I’ve heard/read something about the players crew taking place in the 2050s, even then that doesnt change basically anything in the story atleast for now.

  2. i was looking at this too and if you look around at the bottom sides and the box in front of it it seems like there are a few more parts missing like cables and a button
