Tedious is definitely the right word to describe this module. I personally followed the rule to never let things get out of hand. Had trucks always ready to catch bats and followed a slow approach.
Had to be particularly careful around castles, always saved the game before tackling one. If the outcome was not favorable, I simply reloaded. Reducing autosave interval saved a lot of time because I can’t count how many times I realized that a truck took a new route going past a castle and by the time I found out, the map was full of bats already.
A neat trick is that during exploration whenever you find a castle that you don’t want to trigger yet, just go into road upgrades and seal it off by “upgrades”.
So just take your time, reload often and regularly check the bat stats in the corner to know when a pandemic has broken out. Good luck!
