STRANGER OF PARADISE FINAL FANTASY ORIGIN – Survival For Rift Bosses

Bosses are the most fun part. But rift resets are making it hard to engage with them.

One of the advantages of Ninja’s Utsusemi is that it let’s the player become a glass cannon on their main job (e.g., Duelist) to make short work of a boss. And if exploring some other methods of survival, how you play or how quickly you’ll be able to clear the boss will change if there isn’t as much synergy with that survival method.

Some of the survival methods below, note that not all options are available to all jobs. For the options that typically result in one-shot, would still recommend Damage Taken at Max HP -100% so that you have a chance of surviving the weaker hits on slip up.

Typically pairing one or more of the following survival methods:

  • Stamina and Spirit with Alexander gear plus the 4 monsters in the Rift and having NPCs that have Liberator 600% sharing their Stamina and Spirit with you. (not every job gets enough Stamina or Spirit to do this). If doing this without Sentinel, Runic Protection, or Knightbringer, would recommend the Iron Giant and stocking up on Hi-Potions and Mega Potions to deal with Max HP Reduction.
  • Soul Shield Break Cost stacked toward 100% such as Category 3 master points, Assassin 120%, and across gear effects. (1-shot on slip up unless a tank build or tanky job)
  • Guard Break Gauge Depletion stacked toward 100% such as Knight 120%, across gear effects, and Skeleton plus Sage 250% to defend against magic attacks. For lancer, Lancer 250% to side attack guard (1-shot on slip up unless a tank build or tanky job)
  • Greatsword users leaning into Enhanced Guard and one of four counter moves.
  • White Mage 400% and/or Phoenix primary blessing to turn a glass cannon offense into a chance to survive.
  • Dimension Bringer with Lightbringer Duration stacked to lock an enemy down long enough to rebuild max MP. (more for melee jobs)
  • Katana Senshin Stance with Haste, Lunatic, Dragoon 400% with Lightbringer, and Liberator 120% to narrow the window of where you can get hit with Senshin Stance parries. (1-shot on slip up)
  • Sentinel command ability on activated on a “buffer” job that is stacked with Monk 400%, Muscle Belt, HP, and Improved Effect Sentinel. For non-tank builds or non-tanky jobs, can still get broken without Lightbringer.
  • Marksman 120% with Sylph primary blessing or Fenrir primary blessing, preferably with Flee command to have a dodge focused route, but perhaps for ranged jobs / casters unless a player likes to dance with death up close (1-shot on slip up unless a magic attack on a high Spirit job)
  • Teleport command for ranged / casters practicing a no-hit ranged lifestyle. (does not pair with Marksman 120% or Fenrir primary blessing’s extended dodge invulnerability) (1-shot on slip up unless a magic attack on a high Spirit job)
  • Runic Protection with the activating job having Improved Effect: Runic Protection, then on the main job, having HP stacked up with Damage Taken passives to -100% and enough MP recovery to sustain. For non-tank builds or non-tanky jobs, can still get broken without Lightbringer.
  • Using Lightbringer or Chaosbringer on a bufer job that is stacked with Lightbringer Duration, then switching to your main job that has either Knight 400% or Lionheart accessory with Damage Taken at Max HP -100% so that the Knightbringer doesn’t end in a single hit.
  • For jobs like Marauder, Warrior, Dark Knight (Abyss Knight), and Evoker – timing and holding their mitigation combo ability to brace through an assault before releasing after the enemy’s opening.
  • For Liberator, Stamina+Spirit builds, stacking Improved Effect: Mighty Guard and using Mighty Guard with a way to preserve the break gauge and MP cost. (Note: Mighty Guard does not prevent death in the Rift as it can in the world map due to Max HP Reduction)
  • For dagger jobs, timing i-frames of moves like Weak Spot, Cloaked Fang, Bisect, or Chronostasis or Duelist 250% double side attacks and such. Duelist (Merciless Champion) in particular placing an i-frame move on the After Parry slot.
  • Blackjack with either Summoner 400% and a way to repeat soul shields (e.g., Cyclic Warrior 600%) or Pugilist (Martial Master) to rephrase Blackjack’s invincibility buff once you pull 21. This is unpredictable though.
  • Traditional parries with Liberator 120% (1-shot on slip up unless a tank build or non-tanky job).
  • Ninja’s Utsusemi, with Ninja (Shadowmaster) and enough stats (Intellect and/or Spirit, Status Ailment Accumulation) to use a single elemental ninjutsu and refund scrolls to extend the number of chances on a boss rush.
