TerraTech – Battery Tips & Tricks

In this guide i will explain tips for batteries, energy, etc. Aswell as giving a quick rundown on what exactly they are, where you can get them, what they look like, and more.

Tips and Tricks for Batteries and More

What do they look like? Where can i find them?

First of all, batteries are one block in size and look like cylinders. The top of the battery will be red, and on two sides there will be power indicators, which tell how much power is in the tech (NOT the battery itself, but the tech).

Ps: Look of batteries may vary between corporation.

Batteries can be found just like any other blocks in the game.

You can get them from:

  • Missions
  • Crafting
  • Scavenging
  • And buying

Note: By scavenging, i mean the act of harvesting blocks by fighting Enemy Techs. It is very hard to get specific blocks from scavenging.

What do batteries do?

Batteries are an absolute necessity for any tech designed for combat, especially GEO-based techs.
Batteries will charge both shield bubbles and repair bubbles.

Shield bubbles will stop any projectile that touches it’s field, also prematurely exploding said projectile if it is an explosive. Drains energy quicker when under fire.

Repair bubbles will heal blocks, with record going to venture for heal rate. Will also heal enemies if they get within the field, so you should always keeps them more inside your tech. Drains energy quicker when healing.

Batteries will explode when broken, making it a bit of a burden to have for smaller techs, still very much needed though.

How to charge batteries

There is multiple methods of charging batteries, most will be listed here:

  • Trading stations
  • Solar generators
  • Fuel generators
    • Putting an already partially charged battery on your tech.
  • Thermal generators

Note: By fuel generators, i mean the kind of generators that can be fueled by fuel chunks.

Common mistakes

In my nearly 2,000 hours of playing this game, it always gets my blood boiling when I see a mistake like this, which is why I would like to point out common mistakes.

Unless you have a very small tech, never expose batteries, they are basically large glowing weakpoints that can destroy not only every other battery, but severely damage your entire tech and possibly destroy all of your guns and maybe the tech as a whole. Which is also where i get into the next mistake.

Again, unless you have a very small tech, never place batteries near your cab. you would be surprised just how much damage these little things can cause.

Never have batteries on your tech if you don’t have shields or repairs, you are putting a weakpoint on your tech for quite literally no reason.

If you have enough room for a gluon, and you have one in your inventory, ALWAYS put it down. Gluons have insane battery power and take forever to explode, just never put it on the outside.

Other tips/tricks

First of all, if you don’t do some of these things, you could be handing yourself a disadvantage. I understand not knowing these things when you first boot up the game, but most of this is very elementary knowledge needed for your long-term space adventures.

Always bring your solar panel with you, most importantly, always make sure it can be anchored.

This will allow you to travel easier without having to stop somewhere or go back to base for power, since solar generators will turn on when anchored.

Solar panels themselves are anchors, you will not need anything underneath them. If said panels are off the ground, there should be an anchor on the bottom of your tech.
