The Witch of Fern Island – Chest Maps: Location and Moon Phases

Tired of trying to remember which chest can be opened in which moon phase? How about trying to remember where they all are, and where the cave entrance is to get to them? I know I was! So, I created these maps to make my life easier. I hope they will help you too! Feedback is welcome.

The Forest

In the Forest Biome you can find a total of five chests. I have two additional chests shown, which are actually part of the Desert Biome as a bonus! The first time you loot a chest it will have unique items in it.

1. This chest is located in a cave that is accessed from the beach. It has no moon phase associated with it. The first time you loot it you will receive the Green Witch Top. Also, this cave will have The Eyes of Astra mushroom during Storm, Reverie, and Frost.
2. This chest is located at the edge of the little lake. It is only able to be opened during a Waning Gibbous Moon. The first time you loot it you will receive the recipe: Irrigation Fertilizer.
3. This chest is located on the top of the cliff next to a stone archway. It can only be opened on the Full Moon. The first time you loot it you will receive a Live Light Potion.
4. This chest is located in a cave that is accessed from the beach. It has no moon phase associated with it. The first time you loot it you will receive a spacestone. Also, this cave will have The Eyes of Astra mushroom during Storm, Reverie, and Frost.
5. This chest is located on the beach. You can swim from chest 4 to it easily. It has no moon phase associated with it. The first time you loot it you will receive the recipe: Friendship Charm.

Bonus Chests:

6. This chest is located behind the waterfall. It has no moon phase associated with it. The first time you loot it you will receive a Cosmic Egg. Also, this cave will have The Eyes of Astra mushroom during Storm, Reverie, and Frost.
7. This chest is located next to a beehive so be sure to deal with those pesky bees BEFORE you head up. You can access this chest by hopping on rocks near the beehive to get up to the ledge it is on if you do not have your broom yet. This chest can only be opened on the Waxing Quarter Moon. The first time you loot it you will receive a Fishing Charm.

The Mountains

There are many chests to be found in the Mountain Biome. Some have thorn barricades guarding them, and others require searching for cave entrances. All of them are reachable without a broom provided you have at least a fine quality axe, or a potion to destroy the thorn barriers!

1. This chest is located on the hill behind the witches field. It can only be opened during a Waning Gibbous Moon. The first time you loot it you will find the recipe: Medicine for Cold.
2. This chest is located on a little hill, which is accessible by following the paths behind the witches field. It can only be opened on the Waxing Gibbous Moon. The first time you loot it you will find dumplings. Yummy!
3. This chest is located way up top in the area with the glowing trees and plants past the thorn barrier. You need a fine axe to chop them down, and it will take about 60 swings, or you can use a Throwable Thorns Burner potion (found in random breakable chests). Be ready to use your net as there is a spider nest just past the barrier. This chest can only be opened during a Waxing Crescent Moon. The first time you open it you will find a Farmer Potion.
4. This chest is located in a cave, which is accessible along the cliff beside the stream. It has no moon phase associated with it. The first time you loot it you will receive the ritual: Animal Productivity. Also, this cave will have The Eyes of Astra mushroom during Storm, Reverie, and Frost, and spider webs.
5. This chest is located way up top in the area with the glowing trees and plants past the thorn barrier. You need a fine axe to chop them down, and it will take about 60 swings, or you can use a Throwable Thorns Burner potion (found in random breakable chests). Be ready to use your net as there is a spider nest just past the barrier. This chest can only be opened during a Waxing Quarter Moon. The first time you open it you will find the recipe: Anti-Demon Amulet.
6. This chest is located down in the Quarry. It is only accessible during the Waning Gibbous Moon. The first time you loot it you will find Gold Ore.
7. This chest is located in a cave behind a breakable stone wall barrier on the upper portion of the mountain. It has no moon phase associated with it. The first time you loot it you will receive the recipe: Kitchen Charm. Also, this cave will have The Eyes of Astra mushroom during Storm, Reverie, and Frost, and spider webs. After that it will always have Dream Essence, so be sure to check back frequently!
8. This chest is located on the opposite wall from chest 7, but is hidden behind trees out in the open. It is only able to be opened on the Waxing Crescent Moon. The first time you loot it you will receive the blueprint: Composter.
9. This chest is located in the abandoned Facility on the upper portion of the map. It is accessible in two ways prior to having a broom. You can either go along the wall next to chest 8 until you find the breakable wall section and use that entryway, or you can hop over the fence closest to chest 8. This chest is accessible only during a Full Moon. The first time you open it you will receive a fire essence.
10. This chest is located at the base of the cliff. Prior to having a broom the safest way to get to it is to go through the large cave network. This chest has no moon phase associated with it. The first time you loot it you will get the Cottage Witch Top. After that it will always have an Agate, so be sure to check back frequently!

The Desert

The chests of the Desert Biome are the hardest chests to get as you will need a broom to access at least two of them. Thorny Barriers also can prevent you from looting your goodies so make sure your axe is of at least fine quality, or that you have a few Throwable Thorns Burner potions with you to make your life easier!

1. This chest is located behind the waterfall. It has no moon phase associated with it. The first time you loot it you will receive a Cosmic Egg. Also, this cave will have The Eyes of Astra mushroom during Storm, Reverie, and Frost.
2. This chest is located next to a beehive so be sure to deal with those pesky bees BEFORE you head up. 3. This chest is surrounded by a thorny barrier. You will need either a fine axe or a Throwable Thorns Burner potion, or be able to fly over them. This chest can only be opened on the Full Moon. The first time you open it you will receive Hedge Witch Boots.
4. This chest is surrounded by a thorny barrier. You will need either a fine axe or a Throwable Thorns Burner potion, or be able to fly over them. There is no moon phase associated with this chest. The first time you loot it you will receive the ritual: Sunny Weather.
5. This chest is located up inside the tower in the middle of the lake. It can only be reached by flying. Because you cannot get back on your broom from up here you can safely exit the tower by teleporting home, or by jumping in the water below. You will take damage, but not enough to kill you, unless you are extremely unfortunate. This chest is only accessible during a Waning Gibbous Moon. The first time you loot it you will receive the ritual: Happy Cuflows.
6. This chest is located on the plateau inside the large tree behind the archaeology dig site. You can get to it by hopping over the roots prior to being able to fly. This chest has no moon phase associated with it. The first time you loot it you will receive the recipe: Amulet of Health.
7. This chest is located up above the aqueduct and is only accessible by flying. It has no moon phase associated with it. The first time you loot it you will receive gold ore.
