Heres my some of advices for the WRE.

WRE Campaign Tips in General

Сrеdit gоеs to aegean!

  1. Unite your divided and damaged legions.
  2. Leave Britain, but never forget to destruct your whole buildings until you cant anymore. This will bring you lot of golds.
  3. Leave Dalmatia & Panunnia, and Raetia et Noricum. Do the same, destroy your every single building. But as a important note, never ABANDON CITY unless you have personal issues with local people. This will give your whole empire negative public order for turns.
  4. Leave the Gallic settlements, do the same to your buildings, until you reach the defence line which i will mention in article 5.
  5. Your defence line in West will be the Burdigala- Avaricum- Lugdunum. If you wont be able to hold Avaricum, consider retreating back to border of Spain, to Elusa: and if same happens for Lugdunum, retreat to Vienna (The one in Narbonessis). But never retreat from Burdigala, never leave that city. If you fail in there, your whole territories in Spain will be Celtic, will be invaded by Picts, Ebdanians and maybe by Caledonians.

Why Burdigala is important? Because you will create and hold a fleet in there. This one will hold that ocean area from any barbarian crossing into your territories into the South. And you dont need a big fleet for beginning, until barbarians comes with fleets. A fleet consist on your admiral+ 4 artillery ship will enough for barbarian armies for the ones which tries to sneak into your territories from the ocean.

  1. And for the North, Liguria will be your defence line as whole. This area is well protected by nature with mountains, barbarian armies have to spent lot of their movement range to cross into and they will face with your capital which have strong walls. Never forget, strong walls+1 stack legion will be their worst nightmare unless they are coming with more then 3 armies.
  2. For the East, Aquileia will be your greatest defence line. Also i have to mention, dont let barbarians to take Salone. If they take, raze that city to the ground.. Rebels taking your settlements always better because they dont have ability to leave that city once they take. So turning back to Aquileia, this city has bigger garrison due to its buildings from beginning. This garrison plus one legion will hold you and give you chance to prevent any barbarian or Hunnic attack. This city is greatest for defence in my opinion, it will your east border until you deal with whole enemies and returning back to settlements you lost.
  3. For the South, which is very important, All your territories must be protected. But you can give let go to Tripolitana if Garamantians bothers you much. But in that possiblity, make sure that they never move north from sea to Sicily& Italy. They usually go after Eastern Romans after they take Tripolitana but you have to be sure. As i said, if they try to go north create a fleet as you will do in Burdigala. Same tactic applies here.

But always consider to beat these African nations. Gaetullians usually goes into civil war so you dont need to worry much about them, but Maurians and Garamantians… Will be sweaty. As i said, consider to beat them and raze them. Believe me you dont want to fight with Maurians in Spain and with Garamantians in Rhegium.

Alright, this should be your main strategy, this will your safe zone. Outside this border is hell but inside is Pax Romana. But if you want to succeed at Pax Romana inside your borders, you need to deal with rebellions and public orders, so you need to create a successful building combinations. Your priority will be sanitation first and food as second. Then you have to create buildings with those which will increase your public order. Legacy tech is good for this but as i said first two ring of the chain must be cool.

Consider to have legions in the most problematic regions, and always place them in the best location so they will help your other settlements. You will notice it and create your own strategy in this regard.

Last mix of tips

  • Make sure Suebians are wont be inside threat.
  • Make sure none of your generals will have a loss of loyalty to the level of 3.
  • Dont let any enemy army run into your territories, they wont stop until their general die due to lack of oxygen in their 20th sacking of any settlement with Roman people.
  • When you are defending in any of your settlements against an barbarian attack, always place your units in the protected side. If you watch some of videos from legendoftotalwar/ WRE campaigns you will got it in first minute, i got it from him also. He is a great player, big respect.
  • Dont forget to appoint your generals in administrative positions. When they reach second level, they will reduce the upkeeps of your legions and believe me this is so important for your income. But this will be shake their loyalty especially when they lost their position so have some extra check on their loyalty levels.
  • Appoint governor in most problematic regions, no matter where you wanna appoint them always have one in Corsika n Sardinia. You dont want to send legion to these settlements in the middle of invasions.
  • Dont break up with the Eastern Romans, the trade income will be life saver. And remember, if some nation declare war on them and you dont want to join that when game asks you, same nation will declare war on you too after some turns. So losing ERE for that doesnt makes sense unless they are under rain of Sassanid armies but i never experienced this…
