Сrеdit gоеs to Sir Tontonolous!
Torpedoes are extremely important, pretty much always pick one up when possible because pirates and void whales are both the absolute worst and will end your run. Plus, using torpedoes on void whales gives you a ton of free food, and pirates give various helpful gear too. They earn back their investment pretty quickly if completely invalidating run enders wasn’t enough.
When starting runs, especially on Hard Bastard, buzz box takes priority over everything else. It is unreasonable how much gunpoints can hamper your progress if you don’t have a good means of dealing with them.
Always survey the map of a ship before you begin to explore it. Plan out your routes, and treat the map key like it’s your best friend. Playstyles can differ and all that, but personally, I’m always checking the map screen for various reasons, either for information, plotting an exit strategy if things begin to get dodgy, etc.
Don’t be afraid to leave early, even if you’ve done absolutely nothing. Sometimes, this game is just pure , and early extractions are your weapon against rng screwing you over. A bad ship run beats a game over every time.
If a ship has the “On Fire” modifier, either see if you can get to hab and purchase status immunity, or leave immediately. I don’t care what’s on that ship, it’s not worth it. Playing for more than five seconds will show you why.
Utilize locking if you don’t already, it gives so much free breathing room in a game that can get so tense.
