Tips and Tricks

  • In general when you build a city its a very good idea from day 1 to preplan what you want to do and make enough room so you can make changes.
  • My biggest issue is that i like that my people can walk to everything, vs using the bus/tram.
  • So i build my city rather compact and that result in all kind of issues later on.
  • So try to think ahead when building (but this require experience).

In general it is a pain to upgrade roads/rail/tramp ect. since you properbly now have people who need to cross the road, or trucks/busses/trains that need to use it to go from a-b.

And since there are walkways connected to your road then it can be hard to upgrade them to tram so you maybe have to delete some walkways temporary and build them again.

It would have been better if people build a walkway along the road vs making people use the road to walk on (when it come to upgrading).

To get the larger trams from the customs shop/border to your depot you need a rail line with electrical connection all the way (and power to the track ) I was not aware of this my self, so i could only get the small trams and it was just a nightmare to upgrade the train track since i had like 10 freight trains using it all the time.

So cosider this form day 1.

And again DO NOT build your railroad to compact or with tons of side tracks.

Try to somehow separate cargo trains and passengers trains. Example the one that goes from your city to your factory, maybe try and make a separate train track for this so your cargo trains dont use it.. it will save you allot of frustration and make sure you people get to example your heating plant all the time.

But in general do not place buildings to close together you always want to have enough room for minimum a walkway and other places a road.

MY advice if you already have a city. What about building a tram line that goes in a circle around the city. People can walk 450m if you build the tarmac walkway so even though you make a tram track around the city and maybe directly though it also, then people can walk very far.. That would be more easy than upgrading roads inside the city.

And people can also figure out to use the bus/tram to go shopping, sports, ect. just make sure you have enough busses/trams and they go in different directions so people can go the shortest route.

In general the mistake i always do and you probably also do, its to build things to competed and that make it hard to add stuff later on.
