Age of Magic – Guide to Market Manipulation

Market Manipulation

Market in this case does not refer to the “market” section which sells gear and shards for silver and gold, it reffers to all sections in the market building which sell gear for various currencies: arena, tomb, valley, clan and raid shops.

All these sections of the market which sell primarily hero shards begin selling also gear at player level 60.

While your heroes are at or under equip 7, these markets will have random gear for sale. Once you have one or more heroes at equip 8, these markets will offer gear you need for filling the empty equipment slots of the hero/heroes you have at equip 8 or above.

So market manipulation affects only heroes above equipment tier 7.

Not all the slots in these market will offer gear you currently need. Usually gear slots in markets are divide in half, half of them offer gear you currently need (with green dots to attract your attention) and half will offer random gear which you dont need at the moment (but worth paying attention to it, and in some cases buy it, for example buy any lens VII whenever you see it, it doesnt matter if you currently need it or not).

Manipulating the market basically means you can control what gear will be offered to you for sale in the market slots reserved for gear you need (gear with green dots).

If you have just one hero with empty equipment slots at equip 8 or more, all the markets will offer gear that hero needs. If you have many heroes needing gear at equip 8 or above, the market will offer random pieces of gear some of them need. In this case you might see a lot of gear pieces for heroes you dont want to upgrade further, and very few or none for heroes you wish to upgrade.

How does the market decide a hero needs gear? it decides based on having empty equipment slots on heroes which are at equipment 8 or above, and which have the required level to equip gear in those empty gear slots. For example a hero needs level 70 to equip all six tier 10 gear items. If that hero is level 69 or lower, the gear slots which are locked because of level requirements will not be perceived by the game as empty, so the markets wont show gear with green dots for it.

Also if you fill all slots with gear on a hero, but do not upgrade to next equipment tier, the markets wont show gear with green dots for that hero. Another way is owning the equipment parts your heroes need. Even if you have a dozen heroes needing compass VII, if you have enough compass VII parts to fill all their compass VII empty slots (you dont actually need to craft and equip that gear item, just to own all the parts the markets can offer), the markets will not offer you green dotted compass VII parts for sale, and instead offer other gear pieces your heroes need.

Here you can see a Lucky who stays at equip 8 with all gear slots full so it doesnt influence the market.

This Rok has 2 level requirement locked gear slots which do not influence the markets, and 3 empty gear slots which can be filled and which influence the market.

This Dreverad’s empty gear slots do not influence the market since all are level requirement locked.

So, to bend the markets to your will, only upgrade past equip 7 heroes you use. All other heroes can stay at equip 7 or under. If you’ve already upgraded a multitude of heroes passed equip 7, to regain control of what market offers, fill their gear slots and do not upgrade to next equipment level.

When upgrading your heroes you might need to upgrade more at the same time or in turns. To control who you gear first, use level requirements to your advantage (since gear slots locked because of level dont influence the market’s offers) and also dont hurry to upgrade to next equip tier once you filled all slots on a hero.

The silver market is a particular case. All of the above apply, except the fact that it’s the only market that sells lower tier gear, and it’s also the only market that sells the highest tier gear for equipment tier 11. The lower gear will always have 2 slots with stuff you need and 2 slots with stuff you dont need right away, but most of the time that lower gear is farmable from campaigns. It is still worth buying in the case of lower drop rate parts and in the case of lens VII. The 4 higher tier gear slots will sell random gear tier 11 while you have no heroes at equip 11, and only parts your heroes need while having 4 or more empty gear slots on tier 11 equipped heroes.

I sincerely hope this was helpful. Good luck to you!
