Age of Magic – Min-Maxing a F2P Account

Guide for a Mid to End Game Account

By Nemesi [Dies Irae].

The Goals

  • Get the highest possible monthly advance in Total power of all heroes (find this on the top right of the Heroes screen).
  • Get the scarcest resources at a highest rate.
  • Play the marathon not the sprint.
  • Improve heroes that will give most rewards.

Fast Progress in Total Power of All Heroes

The total power grows with the power growth of each hero.

Warning! Don’t fall into trap of improving heroes that are low tier just because they have 7 Arcane stars.

Pick the heroes that will give you most progress in the game. Check at the group list the hero belongs to and if it’s a long list this champ might have priority

Example of heroes to pick early – mid game:

  • Cathbad (groups: Druids, Healer, Keepers of Arrat, Forest Shamans, Retribution Squad, Woodland Guardians, Roland Allies, Lost Allies)
  • Dreverad (groups: Druids, Tank, Keepers of Arrat, Retribution Squad, Woodland Guardians)
  • Myrrdin (groups: Druids, Caster, Keepers of Arrat, Retribution Squad)

These three heroes cover 3 groups which helps a lot for new heroes events, campaigns, etc.

Get The Scarcest Resources at Highest Rate

A general rule is to be patient and save resources for important times but bursts can be useful to jump over hurdles at important times.

Chaos Prisms

How to Get

Get highest raid rewards and use the Difficult Raid Tokens only for buying chaos prisms (except jumping over hurdles like a hero improvement to get an additional level in the Cradle of Chaos or a hero event for summon stones).

Prioritize progress in the Cradle of Chaos. While farming chaos prisms in CoC a lot of other great rewards are on the way including hero shards.

How to Use

Choose what is the biggest progress for your account:

  • PVP: Choose the hero and the skill that will give you most advantage. Example of first pick is Guardians of Order -> Omphis -> Ancient Guardian. Stack up the skills on one team until you can get most rewards from the Arena/Tournament, then move to next team to be able to beat a variety of teams.
  • PVE: Choose a skill on a hero that would improve your PVE progress. Example of first pick is Could Wanderers -> Ever -> Shadow Healer

Legendary Hero Shards

How to Get

Get hero to rarity 7* and 7 Arcane stars (AS) at New Hero Events. This is a huge source of legendary shards but requires a lot of stacked resources. Try getting at least rarity 4* and 4 Arcane stars.

+ 4*AS, but go as far as you can. Do not rush with AS over levels as the extra AS won’t count towards the event rewards.

Here are a few hints to do this:

  • Keep saving indigo runes for this event, because on the second rotation of hero hunt it is possible to choose the new hero and then get 80-145 shards for the new hero. This could push the hero easily to level 6. If you save over 100 extra indigo runes this could push the new hero to level 7. This is a huge boost on the legendary shards
  • Do the new hero special event to get a lot of summon stones. Buy daily refills for 30 + 60 + 60 gold. This is the best value as it gets a lot of summon stones. This will also help push the new hero to high level.
  • On the Hero hunt try to spend the Indigo runes to 40k. This will sometimes put you in top 10 which will provide 1 shard. (there is a little trick with choosing when to get on the ladder to improve chances). Even if it doesn’t give the Legendary hero shards it will bring you higher.
  • The new Legendary hero events. There will be more info later on this because stacking resources for this event is a special chapter.

How to Use

  • Prioritize if it’s more important to get a new hero or improve a current one.
  • Use 100 to buy a new hero. The price never drops so you can use it at any time.
  • Improve the hero ONLY when there is a discount in the shop. This is very hard as it is a long grind and your favorite hero on discount might not appear for several months.
  • Discounts in the shop for 4, 5, 6, 7 Arcane Stars are respectively 20, 40, 55, 75 Tokens.

Gold Tokens – Incredibly Slow Grind

How to Get

Most important source is the Token Rush event. This is a safe source and it’s a slow grind but try to get your Team for this as soon as possible.

Tournament – biggest source but really hard for Free to play. I will not write a guide here but if you can win a Tournament, it’s impressive. My only hint is to keep your best 5 heroes below the highest group (Tournament groups are divided by the total power of your top 5 heroes), but this conflicts with the raid requirement. I find the raid rewards more important so I try to keep my raid team as high as needed to complete the raid on my lane. You might find Tournament rewards more interesting.

New Legendary Hero milestones – some of the milestones give a lot of gold tokens. I suggest to keep your resources patiently for these and gain as much as possible (read section Legendary Hero events/milestones).

Cradle of Chaos – This is a nice source of tokens but it’s hard to get there. Be patient and grind your teams to get there.

How to Use

Buy only 7 AS for 150 Gold tokens (Do NOT buy 6 AS for 100 Gold Tokens – exception if it is an Arena or Tournament hurdle). The reason for this is because if there is a dupe 7 AS in the shop you will get a 150 Gold token return and then you will be able to pick another one. The return of the 6 AS is 300 VII Arcane tokens.

Silver – Depending Where in The Game You Are

How to Get

  • Clan raid progress.
  • Market -> Resources -> Chest of Silver (2000 Silver Talismans).
  • Daily silver rewards.
  • COC.
  • Legendary campaign – When the Triple rewards from legendary campaign are up, use refills of 4x50g campaign refills, and run highest rewards in silver possible while doubling up on the equipment that is needed to progress heroies.
  • When the heroic rewards are doubled, sometimes using the 4x50g campaign refills will help with the silver. However, this sometimes should not be used if a new legendary event is coming as rewards might be better from the next new Legendary Hero event.
  • Tournament.
  • There are a lot of other places but the gains are minor.

How to Use

Highest priority is using the 100k in the New Legendary milestone. You can overlap it with 3 x 9.5k because there is a 1h difference of start of the Daily Silver Milestone.

Aways try to stack 200k silver for the new Legendary Hero events. This will allow you to get a lot of rewards from the New Legendary Event as there are 2 Silver milestones that give tons of rewards but for the last step of each one requires 100k silver

If you are above 100-200k silver use 9.5M silver per day to complete the daily Silver Milestone and get all the important resources such as indigo runes and silver refund

Prioritize improving the important heroes. Getting them to level 100 gives an easy advantage if you can afford the silver

If a lot of heroes are at level 100, stacking silver over 300k could be useful, as silver starts being used for other rewards.

Equipment – Very Different for Start Game – Mid Game – End Game

How to Get

  • Campaign – try to double or triple up on equipment and calculate what is the best gain from the campaign energy.
  • An inaccurate but useful formula would be energy cost per piece = energy cost of level / number of useful equipment rewards. Example: a campaign level costs 16 but it brings 2 level VII equipment, 1 level VI equipment and another 1x level V equipment. efficiency = 16 / 4 = 4. This means that you would use 4 energy per equipment piece. For minmaxing always farm at the campaign level with the lowest ENERGY COST PER PIECE. There are stronger optimizations but are too complex and out of scope of this guide.
  • When heroic rewards are up try not to farm equipment that can be gained at a lower cost in normal runs.
  • Normal rewards day -> Get the equipment you need with best efficiency while targeting gear for the next hero or team to improve.
  • Market -> Chests -> Equipment Chests – DO NOT OPEN THESE unless it’s an OPEN CHESTS milestone during the New Legendary Hero event. The rewards are totally worth the wait.
  • Market -> Soulwarden Shop – Once the hero shards for Trorin are collected – DO NOT OPEN THESE unless it’s an OPEN CHESTS milestone during the New Legendary Hero event. When this event is up open the Equipment VI as it gives much more milestone points per soul than the Equipment IX chest.
  • Market -> Market – always buy the equipment below level VIII (7 or lower) in the row before last that is marked with a green dot. If the silver is high feel free to buy the equipment IX that costs 85K. If you are desperate to level a specific hero you might spend high silver costs for IX gear (345K or even over 1M silver) but this can be a disaster for the next New Legendary Hero event, if you miss even 50K silver for it. Never use gold to buy items in here.
  • Market -> Arena, ToH, VoT, Clan, Raids – I suggest focusing on getting important heroes to progress to rarity 7*. After this the focus should be on buying all the green dot marked gear to stack up and force market to put up needed gear. This is really a vital part of gearing heroes as some gear cannot find anywhere but in these shops. After you collect more then 10x cost of cheapest hero in these shops it’s ok to spend some resources on the cheapest hero. Examples in ToH shop the cheapest hero is 450 resources. Once you have 4950 it’s ok to spend 450 on buying the hero shards. This will turn into Soul Stones which become very valuable for New Legendary Hero Events.

Other resources are not as valuable as the ones above and are gained easily on the way.

New Legendary Hero Event

Keep stacking resources for these. It’s hard to control not to spend but self-control helps.

There are 8 milestones that last for 48 hours.

The milestones come in different order. Capfei, Lilith, Sid and Luxuria all had a different schedule.

The milestones start 1h after the daily milestones reset which allows for 3 overlaps of daily quests with these milestones (Lord of Silver milestone can overlap with Spend Silver milestone 3x)

6 different milestones occur but some of them occur twice (marked 2x)

  • Use Energy (2x)
  • Earn MP/HP points
  • Indigo Summon (usually overlaps with some days of Hero Hunt)
  • Spend silver (2x)
  • Spend Arcane Coins
  • Open gear chests

It’s important to prepare well for each of these events and then burst into them.

Use Energy Preparation

Refills come at a 10 energy/hour fill (1 every 6 min). This means that 16h before the reset you should be at campaign 0 energy. Try to stack 160 campaign energy at the start of the event. Valley energy fills at 5 energy/hour fill (1 every 12 min). This means that you should be at 0 energy 32h before the Start of the event. However, there are daily gains from the quests so it’s possible to spend a bit while saving for the start of the event.

Magic pass and Hero pass might give energy. Do not spend these until the event starts, unless it will expire before the event starts. There are more tricks with this but more complexity.

If you watch ads to gain energy, try to delay watching them until the milestone starts.

Buy 4x50g campaign refills for these to gain max rewards.

On the last day of the event check if it’s worth any resources to reach the next reward of the milestone (don’t invest if not possible to reach it).

This milestone is not FTP friendly as the last step is around 80k energy. I didn’t find a way to reach even close to the end. Typically, I can reach the reward at 4340.

Earn MP/HP Points Preparation

  • Check all steps for Use Energy Preparation as this is a huge gain.
  • 1 day before the start of this milestone do not do the ToH. You can then do 2 full ToH runs when the event starts which gives a lot of MP/HP points.
  • On the day of the start of the milestone DELAY Arena fights until the milestone start.
  • On the day of the start of the milestone do not do challenges until the milestone starts.
  • On the last day of the milestone do all the above before it ends.
  • We do not aim for the last reward here as this milestone is not FTP friendly.

Indigo Summon Preparation

This is an extremely long preparation but I try to save the 100k needed Indigo Runes while spending only the 40k on the weekly Hero Hunt. If done properly with the Silver daily spend of 9.5 mil, this would allow to stack up enough for full rewards.

The 3 legendary tokens reward from spending 40k Indigo runes in the weekly Hero Hunt is a really good reward. Sometimes however you might want to save towards the 100k but I cannot advise what is better, as the rewards for the milestone might change.

This even typically overlaps with the Hero Hunt for at least 1 day so be aware to use the Indigo runes for double up on rewards.

Spend Silver Preparation

(Warning there are 2 of these)

This comes two times so it’s important to plan to have 200 mln during the whole event.

The safest way is stack 200 mln and only spend if you are over this amount.

Some of the other New Legendary Hero milestones can give up to 20k silver talismans. This can bring a huge stack of silver.

Hint: try to spend the gold on the 2nd day and not first, you might see interesting results.

Spend Arcane Coins Preparation

This is again a long collecting period.

Be patient and don’t spend any until this event appears. Optionally spend excessive amounts at New Hero event to get huge amount of Legendary Hero shards.

An earlier milestone might give you 2500 VII Arcane rewards. This will instantly give 200k points. Keep an eye opened for these.

Open Gear Chests Preparation

Another long collecting period.

Don’t use any equipment chests from Market -> Chests

Don’t open any Market -> Soulwarden rewards as the Equipment chest VI and IX count as rewards during this event

Spend as many as needed to get the max rewards.

If you see that there is a chance to win and you have stacked a lot of equipment chest, feel free to burst all of your resources. Otherwise stack for next event.

If you have reached to here. Thank you for reading all this. There is much more for minmaxing FTP but this is what I found most important.

I sincerely hope this was helpful. Good luck to you!
