AION 2 – Enhancement Guide (Upgrading Your Gear)

Enhancement and Gear Upgrading

Growth

Growth is the general gear enhancement system. Gear can be upgraded by spending Kinah and Enhance Stones or Amplify Stones.

Enhance Stones come from many different sources and types of content. They are used to enhance gear up to its normal enhancement limit:

  • Yellow/Unique gear can be enhanced to +15.
  • Orange/Heroic gear can be enhanced to +20.

After reaching the normal enhancement limit, gear can receive five additional Amplify levels.

Amplify Stones are created by Substance Morphing Amplify Fragments together with Enhance Stones.

The enhancement success percentage soft resets to 60% when moving from +15 to +16.

Enhance Stones can become a bottleneck for players who spend heavily on the game.

Potential Enhance

Potential Enhance adds PvE Damage Boost and Damage Tolerance to gear through a separate Potential stat line.

Crafted gear automatically receives maximum Potential Stats and nearly double the value of Dungeon gear on the Asian servers. This does not apply to Global servers. It has not yet been confirmed whether Crafted Potential Stats are higher than Dungeon Gear on Global.

To Potential Enhance gear, you need Potential Enhancement Material. This is obtained by Substance Morphing gear into Potential Stones.

Potential Stones have tiers determined by the Item Level of the gear that was used for Substance Morphing. The current progression is:

  • 1*
  • 2*
  • 3*
  • 4*
  • 5*
  • 1* “prestiged”

Extra gear can be converted into Potential Stones of the corresponding tier. These stones are then used to increase the Damage Boost and Damage Tolerance values on the exclusive Potential stat line.

Manastone and Soulstone Lines

Manastones and Soulstones provide randomized stat lines on gear.

  • Manastones are used on weapons and armor.
  • Soulstones are used on accessories.

Each time you consume a single Manastone or Soulstone, the game rolls randomized lines across all available Manastone or Soulstone sockets. For example, gear with five sockets will receive five rolled lines.

For end-game gear, you generally want to roll Superiors. Avoid spending too many of these, if at all, on gear that you expect to replace soon, as Superior Mana/Soulstones can become very expensive.

Try to obtain at least one yellow Damage Boost stat. There is a substantial increase from the blue Damage Boost value of 30 to the yellow Boost value of 100.

100 points of a Damage Boost stat equal 1% of that stat on your character’s stat sheet. For example:

  • Gold Weapon Damage Boost +100 = 1% Weapon Damage Boost.

Two yellow/Unique Attack lines provide a similar value to one yellow/Unique Damage Boost line.

A single yellow/Unique Attack +10 line is a reasonable temporary roll if you are low on Stones.

The general stat priority from best to worst is:

  1. Front/Back Damage Boost
  2. Weapon Damage Boost ≈ Critical Damage Boost
  3. Damage Boost
  4. Attack

Manastones and Soulstones do not carry over when you transfer or upgrade gear. Avoid investing heavily in gear that you will soon replace.

Theostones

Theostones are socketed into weapons. Each item can have one Theostone, and the same Theostones do not stack. Theostones have a percentage chance to activate when you hit an enemy. Their effects range from crowd control to damage.

As a general rule, higher Combat Speed means more hits, which increases the value of Theostones with lower activation percentages. Ping also affects this.

Theostones contribute relatively little to overall DPS, even at the yellow, highest grade. Until this is buffed, their impact in PvE is insignificant.

Theostones also provide a glow effect on the weapon. Some players therefore choose them based on appearance. The Earth Theostone produces the referenced glow effect.

Soul Binding

Soul Binding is an enhancement system tied to your Stat Lines. There are three different types of Soul Binding:

  • Bind
  • Sync
  • Reset

Bind

Bind increases the blue Soul Binding Rate bar, which increases the effectiveness of each Stat Line indicated by the yellow bar.

The Soul Binding Rate reaches 100% when all yellow Stat Lines are at 100%.

Bind upgrades require Soul Codex books. The cost increases each time you enhance, while the upgrade itself is guaranteed but the amount gained is randomized.

Once you reach 100% Soul Binding Rate, you can add one additional Stat Line by using two Philosopher’s Stones. These are obtained mainly from Conquest Dungeons.

The additional Stat Line created with Philosopher’s Stones does not transfer when the gear is transferred.

Sync and Reset

Sync is used to reroll your Stat Lines. Reset shuffles all of your Stat Lines at once. The detailed Stat Line system is covered separately in the “Ideal Stat Lines” guide.

Transfer

Transfer allows you to move your gear to another, preferably upgraded, piece of gear. The additional Stat Line created with Philosopher’s Stones does not transfer to the new item.

Transfers require Transfer Stones. Transfer Stones are created by Substance Morphing Transfer Stone Fragments.

Apart from selected shops, such as the Season Shop, Transfer Stone Fragments can only be obtained by Substance Morphing Orange/Heroic gear.

One Heroic gear item provides five Transfer Stone Fragments.

The required fragments depend on the type of gear being transferred:

Gear TypeFragments RequiredHeroic Items Required
Accessory Transfer Stone102
Armor Transfer Stone153
Weapon Transfer Stone204

When transferring Yellow/Unique gear to Orange/Heroic gear, five additional Yellow Transfer Stones are required.

When transferring an item within the same grade, one Transfer Stone of that same grade is required. For example, transferring Yellow/Unique to Yellow/Unique requires one Yellow/Unique Transfer Stone, while transferring Orange/Heroic to Orange/Heroic requires one Orange/Heroic Transfer Stone.

Yellow/Unique Transfer Stones are obtained through the same general process as Orange/Heroic Transfer Stones. When converting Yellow/Unique gear into Transfer Fragments, pay attention to the blue x1 to x5 number shown on the item. This indicates how many fragments the piece provides. Higher Item Level gear provides more fragments.

Orange/Heroic Transfer Stones and their fragments should be used carefully because they are not easy to obtain. Saving them early can provide a larger supply for later gear.

Orange/Heroic gear is much more difficult and expensive to upgrade. The recommendation is to avoid transferring or using the first Heroic set, Ancient Spirit, and wait for the second set, Faded Shadow, before moving into Orange/Heroic gear unless additional changes are made to the game.

Yellow/Unique Transfer Stones cannot currently be upgraded into Orange/Heroic Transfer Stones.

Transferring and rolling Stat Lines on Yellow/Unique gear is free compared with Orange/Heroic gear. A large number of Orange/Heroic Transfer Fragments will be needed for future gear, so it is advisable to save them early rather than spending them unnecessarily.
