Aniimo – New Pathfinder Guide

New Pathfinder Guide and Tips

This guide provides gameplay tips for new Pathfinders exploring Idyll for the first time. It contains no story spoilers, but the information can spoil gameplay systems and discoveries.

The advice is based on beta gameplay and may differ from the release version. Some systems were changed or planned for changes in the developer letter, so beta-specific details should not be treated as guaranteed release information.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Save Your Glimmer

Do not spend Glimmer early in the game. It is recommended to wait until at least Level 40, or preferably until reaching the endgame after the Breezy Plains story, when the most valuable uses become clearer.

Glimmer is a freemium currency that is primarily earned from one-time sources. The large amount available early in the game can create the impression that it will remain plentiful, but it is a limited resource unless purchased with real money.

Use Premium Aniipods Carefully

Premium Aniipods, including Ultras and Sparklings, are limited resources and should not be used casually.

They can be manually unequipped from the inventory screen. Doing so removes them as an option when throwing Aniipods in the open world and helps prevent accidental use.

In beta, recommended uses included:

  • Ultras: Catching Alpha Aniimo for their Aniilog entry, once per Aniimo.
  • Ultras: Guaranteeing Elite potential on rare eggs or Aniimo.
  • Sparklings: Catching or hatching an Aniimo you particularly want.
  • Sparklings: Catching or hatching rare forms or traits, such as Prismana or Alpha Aniimo, to guarantee Perfect potential.

When an Alpha escapes an Aniipod, it disappears instead of remaining available for another immediate attempt. However, this does not mean an Alpha can only ever be caught once. In beta, escaped Alphas respawned after about one minute and could be fought and caught again.

Understand Aniimo Upgrade Restrictions

Aniimo upgrades have different rules regarding refunds and transfers. Some can be fully refunded, some can be transferred between Aniimo from the same family, and some are permanent to the specific Aniimo.

Because many upgrades are time-gated or limited, plan investments carefully.

UpgradeRefundableTransferable
Potential AwakeningYes, for Aniimo below Level 60Yes, within the same family; excess over the cap is refunded
ResonanceNoYes, within the same family; excess over the cap is refunded
Capability FruitNoYes, within the same family; it was unknown whether the fruit is refunded if both Aniimo have used one
Prismatic StoneNoNo confirmed transfer; treat it as permanent
Psyche FruitNoNo
CosmeticsNoNo

Potential Awakening increases innate potential, up to 20.

Resonance provides additional raw stats.

A Capability Fruit grants +1/+1 to two main potentials.

A Prismatic Stone upgrades an Aniimo’s core skill.

A Psyche Fruit rerolls an Aniimo’s personality.

Cosmetic upgrades include the Sparkling Mark, Prismana Orb, and Morph Orb.

Check the Daily Mysterious Vendor

A mysterious vendor in Astra offers a random selection of items every day in exchange for Credits. The stock can include upgrade materials, Primegy, and discounted Aniipods, including Sparklings.

These purchases are always worth considering because Credits are free and plentiful compared with the items being sold.

Useful Tips for New Pathfinders

Keep One of Every Aniimo

Keep at least one copy of every Aniimo, including every evolution stage and form.

Several quests and exploration routes require specific Aniimo. Keeping one of each in storage can prevent unnecessary backtracking.

There is enough storage to support this approach:

  • 360 Aniimo storage slots are available initially.
  • Another 360 slots become available while leveling.

Even Aniimo with poor potential should generally be kept if they are the only copy of that species, evolution stage, or form you have.

Complete Pathfinder Rank Exams as Soon as Possible

Several times during progression, your level becomes capped until you complete a Pathfinder Rank Exam.

Complete these exams as soon as they become available. They increase the level cap, which affects both the player and Aniimo. The player can continue earning experience beyond the cap, but Aniimo stop gaining experience when they reach it.

Rank exams also unlock features and progression benefits, including:

  • Player skills
  • Game modes such as Holo Battle Sim
  • Higher world levels

The world level determines the levels of Aniimo encountered in the wild. A higher world level can therefore reduce the time and resources required to level newly caught Aniimo manually.

Higher world levels also increase the quantity of rewards obtained from Alpha and Omega encounters.

Attend the Daily Star-Crossed Tea Party

The Star-Crossed Tea Party is a daily event in Astra where you can spend a few minutes in a café to receive Battle Pass and town currency.

The currency can be exchanged for useful items, but the event also allows Aniimo to interact with each other.

One rare interaction can permanently increase an Aniimo’s actual stats. This does not increase its innate potential. For example, an Aniimo with 5 HP potential would still have 5 HP potential after the interaction, but its actual HP stat could increase.

It was unknown whether this bonus could stack multiple times on the same Aniimo, but the potential benefit made the event worth attending daily.

Alpha Farming Does Not Require Capturing the Alpha

The endgame loop of farming Alpha Aniimo for upgrade materials and equipment does not require successfully capturing the Alpha.

The relevant drops are rewarded by using Primegy, regardless of whether the Alpha is successfully captured. Therefore, there is no need to spend Ultras when farming Alphas for endgame drops.

Aniimo Potential System

Potential is one of the endgame power systems. Because upgrades can be transferred between Aniimo from the same family, it is less important to understand every detail of the system than it was in beta. However, the potential system remains relevant when deciding which Aniimo to invest in.

When clearing out Aniimo storage or deciding which copy to invest in, Elite and Perfect Aniimo are generally the copies worth considering for investment because lower potential rarities require significantly more resources to reach the same final values.

The main systems used to maximize an Aniimo include:

  1. Resonance, Stage 7: Feeding materials to increase its strength.
  2. Potentials: Up to 20 in each of ATK, HP, BREAK, REGEN, PHYS DEF, and MAG DEF.
  3. Core Skill Upgrade: Requires a Prismatic Stone.
  4. Personality: A personality appropriate for the Aniimo’s role, changed using Psyche Fruits.
  5. Carried Items: Aniimo equipment that can be equipped and removed freely.

The potential system is the main part that can vary between individual copies of the same Aniimo.

A lower innate potential means more resources are required to reach the same maximum value of 20. Potential ratings therefore provide a useful benchmark, although the label itself is purely cosmetic once the Aniimo is fully maxed.

For example, a fully maxed Common Aniimo with 120 total potential is functionally identical to a fully maxed Perfect Aniimo with 120 potential, aside from the displayed Common or Perfect label.

Potential Ratings

RatingInnate PotentialBeta Catch RateRecommendation
Common0 to 3 on two main potentialsNot specifiedCan generally be released, while keeping one for coverage
Good4 to 5 on two main potentialsNot specifiedCan generally be released, while keeping one for coverage
Elite6 to 7 on two main potentials7%Keep
Perfect8 to 10 on two main potentials0.8%Keep

Common and Good Aniimo can generally be released, provided you keep one copy for quest and exploration coverage.

Elite Aniimo are worth keeping because a Capability Fruit can add +1 to both main potentials, potentially allowing the Aniimo to cross the Perfect threshold.

Perfect Aniimo are rare and should be kept.

Compare Potential Spreads, Not Just Individual Values

When comparing Elite or Perfect copies, the highest individual potentials are not necessarily the most resource-efficient choice. A more balanced spread can require less Star Essence to reach 20 in all six potential categories.

For example:

  • 10/10/5/5/5/5: 60 Star Essence required to reach the maximum.
  • 10/10/6/6/4/4: 62 Star Essence required.
  • 10/10/7/7/3/3: 68 Star Essence required.

Each missing level of innate potential increases the amount of Star Essence required to reach the maximum.

In beta, Star Essence was time-gated. Three free Star Essence could be guaranteed from Omega encounters each week, with additional amounts potentially available through limited sources such as events and the mysterious vendor.

As a result, choosing a less efficient Aniimo for investment could create a difference of roughly three weeks in the time required to max its potentials.

The developer letter indicated that Star Essence output would be increased and that most upgrades would become transferable, reducing the importance of carefully optimizing potential spreads. Release changes may therefore make the beta resource calculations obsolete.

Week 1 Priorities

The following priorities were intended to maximize rewards and progression before the first daily and weekly resets.

Unlock Daily Activities

The first priority is to unlock daily activities as quickly as possible.

In beta, daily activities reset at midnight UTC+8, although the release reset time was not confirmed.

RV/Homeland Dailies

Reach Intermediate Student, Level 25.

The RV required significant real-world time to develop, potentially taking hours or days. Starting its progression earlier allowed more time for development.

Most of the RV progression involved obtaining currency to purchase decorations, crafting Aniipods, and XP Fruits.

The RV also provided element-specific buffs through daily quests, totaling 7% damage/resistance per element.

These buffs could also be obtained from a friend’s or neighbor’s RV.

The RV system appeared to have been significantly changed for release, including the addition of a house, so this priority may change.

Nurture Dailies

Collect 30 Lumin Amber.

In beta, nurturing had a limit of 10 per day and included free Nurtures that regenerated over time. Unlocking the free Nurture early prevented regeneration from being wasted.

The developer letter indicated that the nurturing system had been revamped, so these beta details may no longer apply at release.

Start the Inferlupa Timegate

The Inferlupa evolution quest included a three daily-reset timegate in beta.

This was not an urgent priority, but starting the timegate early could prevent delays later.

Unlock Weekly Activities

The second priority is to unlock weekly activities before the first weekly reset.

In beta, the weekly reset was believed to occur on Monday at 00:00 UTC+8, together with the daily reset. The release reset time was not confirmed.

Holo Battle Sim

Reach Beginner Wayfarer, Level 40.

The Holo Battle Sim had:

  • 9 basic levels from Level 40 to 55
  • 3 advanced levels at Level 60

Weekly rewards were available based on completions of the advanced tier during the previous week. Because there was no previous week during the first week, there were no first-week rewards.

The Week 1 goal was therefore to clear the advanced tier six times to qualify for maximum rewards during the second week.

Lumin Amber Egg

Collect 90 Lumin Amber.

This unlocks a weekly Wonder Egg containing a guaranteed Alpha or Sparkling Aniimo.

The egg spawns near the top of the huge plant near the center of Breezy Plains, the first region.

Star Essence Exchange

Unlock the three Omega Aniimo.

Each Omega Aniimo could be fought once per week in beta. Together, the three encounters provided 3 Star Essence per week.

This was a relatively small amount compared with the total Star Essence required for potential upgrades. The developer letter indicated that Omega output would be increased, so this may no longer be a major Week 1 priority after release.

Early Game Progression and Exploration

Playing Casually

The game can be played without heavily optimizing progression.

In beta, the only content that required optimization was Holo Battle Interlink, a weekly raid mode with tiered rewards. An unoptimized team could receive a lower reward tier, but the missed rewards were not considered a major loss because the good rewards were frontloaded.

Falling behind in materials was also not a major limitation. It could result in having approximately 6 or 8 fully upgraded Aniimo instead of 10, but only four Aniimo could be used at a time.

The developer letter mentioned additional challenging content, including a Chaos Mode for Egg Heist, so the importance of optimization may change after launch.

Catching High-Level Aniimo on Day 1

It is possible to travel directly to a high-level area and attempt to catch an Aniimo using an Aniipod Ultra.

However, levels are capped by story progression, so there is generally little reason to do this unless you specifically want a particular Aniimo early.

Choosing Aniimo for the Story

The starter Aniimo is strong enough to carry you through the story.

For endgame content, teams will want to be built around elemental types because elemental advantages are significant:

  • +60% damage against weaknesses
  • -37.5% damage against resistances

Story vs. Exploration

There is no requirement to follow a specific exploration strategy. You can focus on the story or explore the island freely while leveling.

Completing Pathfinder Rank Exams as soon as they become available is recommended because of their level-cap and progression benefits.

Outside of those exams, exploration can be approached according to your preferred play style.
