ASTRA: Knights of Veda – Guide to Combat

Movement Basics

Сrеdit gоеs to !

On the battlefield you will face many different enemies. Whether you’re battling through hordes of undead in Adventure, or facing other players in the Arena, the basic concepts for combat are the same. Make sure you’re prepared to face the dangers ahead with the following guide.

Note: We will be using the Movement WASD + Attack Key control system for this guide.

Move

To move around the screen, press [W] to move up on the screen, [S] to move down, and [A] and [D] to move left and right respectively.

Dodge

In order to dodge an incoming enemy attack, you will need to press the dodge key [Space] which will give you a moment of invulnerability as you attempt to roll through the attack. Dodging this way consumes stamina.

Dash / Sprint

If you wish to quickly move to the next enemy, hold [Space] to charge at your enemy. If you time this with a normal attack, you will perform a Dashing Strike. Sprinting consumes a character’s stamina, which may impede their ability to perform certain attacks.

Loot

Items that are dropped can be picked up by walking/running over the item during combat. Food items that heal may still need to be picked up with the [F] key.

Attack Basics

In order to perform an attack or skill, you need to press the corresponding key.

Basic Attack

You can perform a basic attack by pressing the attack button [J].

Strong Attack

A strong attack can be performed by pressing and holding down the attack button [J]. Using a strong attack consumes stamina, which replenishes over time and is indicated by the circle underneath the character. For characters with a shield, this also has the opportunity to block incoming damage. Please check a character’s Strong Attack skill description for more information.

Normal Skill (Knight’s Power)

The Knight of Veda’s Normal Skill can be used by pressing [K]. Unlike basic attacks, skills have a cooldown which means you cannot use the skill again until the cooldown has completed. Skills generally have their own unique effect, such as healing your party, providing defensive effects or dealing a huge amount of damage.

Signature Skill

A Knight of Veda’s signature skill is one of their most useful tools. This skill not only has a cooldown, it also consumes Veda’s Energy. Veda’s Energy charges while attacking enemies or using a skill. Veda’s Energy will also charge when taking damage from enemy attacks.

Auto Battle

Autoplay is available by pressing [V]. Autoplay will remain active until you turn it off by pressing [V] again. While autoplay is active, your Knights will fight through the stage, picking up loot and eating food along the way. They will also be able to activate skills.

In order to finish the stage, you will need to interact with the Veda’s Return at the end of the stage.

Autoplay cannot switch between characters, so care must be taken to ensure that your team survives through the stage.

Stamina

Performing certain actions such as sprinting, dodging, and Strong Attacks require stamina. Stamina will recover over time when a character is not consuming it for a short duration.

Power of the Stars

Eight Powers of a Star

Each Knight of Veda is blessed with the Power of a Star, granting them a certain affinity with a particular Star Power. There are 8 types of Star Power:

Fire

Poison

Water

Light

Electric

Blood

Earth

Darkness

Power of the Stars Attribute Affinity Chart

All enemies in ASTRA: Knights of Veda belong to at least one of these star types, and will either deal extra damage or receive extra damage from other star types. You can check the star type bonuses in the chart below.

Active Resistance

It is wise to diversify your attributes in a party. Too much damage from one particular star type can cause an enemy to gain an active resistance to it. For example, attacking an Earth type enemy with a Poison type knight will eventually trigger a poison resistance. Once this happens, a poison colored bubble will appear around the enemy, and an indicator with the poison attribute icon will appear on the enemy. Pay close attention to the icon as it will display how long the active resistance will remain.

In our example, poison attribute damage dealt to the enemy will be reflected back towards the Knight. If you put down a skill that provides continuous type damage in an area (Cappechi’s Signature Skill, which generates a small poison field for example) on an enemy that has poison resistance, then switch to a non-poison type Knight, the Knight on the field will still take reflected damage.

You can also gain active resistance if you take too much damage from a particular enemy.

When this resistance occurs, the enemy’s defensive type temporarily changes to that attribute type. In order to deal the most damage, choose a Power of the Stars type that has an advantage over it to deal more damage. This means in the example above, switching to a Fire type knight will allow you to deal the most damage.

Accrued Power of The Stars

As you deal damage of a particular attribute type in battle, a gauge at the top center of the screen will begin to fill up. This is your Accrued Power of the Stars.

The color within the bar is representative of an attribute color. For example, a green bar would mean that poison damage has been dealt, while an orange bar means that fire damage has been dealt.

This bar will allow you to see the % of damage dealt, and you can easily work out which damage type has dealt the most damage, as it will fill the highest percentage of the bar, which is important for the Overflowing Power of the Stars system. The attribute that caused the most damage is shown in the center of the bar.

Overflowing Power of the Stars

When the Accrued Power of the Stars bar is full, you will be able to unleash the Overflowing Power of the Stars. You can then trigger the Power of the Star that filled the bar the most by pressing [R]. This will give characters of that type a window where they can use skills, and signature skills, rapidly in quick succession. This will give you a window of time where your damage output will spike, so make the most of it while it is available.

In your party, if the character that accrued the most damage dies, and there are no other characters of that type in your party, the Accrued Power of the Stars will not disappear, but will switch to the next attribute with the most damage.

Damage and Healing

Wounds

Taking damage in combat has a chance to inflict Wounds. Wounds essentially reduce your total HP during that combat scenario. When healing a character inflicted with Wounds, you will only be able to heal them up to the purple bar that appears in the character’s HP bar for that stage.

Food / Healing

In Adventure mode, you will be able to eat food items that restore hit points as you make your way through a stage. To eat the food, press [F] while standing on top of the item.

Please note that only the Knight that picks up the item will be affected, even if they are already at maximum HP so make sure to switch to the Knight you want to heal before picking up these items. One more important thing to note, consuming food is the only way during combat to “heal” a character’s Wounds (restoring some of the Knight’s max HP).

Picking up Loot

As you progress through a stage, certain items may drop from enemies and from breaking things like ores and barrels. These items could be ingredients for cooking or materials to help your character get stronger. Whatever the item is, you can pick it up by walking over the item. If the Auto Battle function is on, your character will automatically pick up the items. Gold gets picked up automatically without having to walk close to it.

Please note that you must make sure to pick up the loot before you leave a stage, otherwise it will disappear. Sometimes a cutscene will trigger before you can pick up your loot. Do not worry, you should be able to pick up the items after the cutscene plays out.
