Content Warning – How to Create Custom Faces

How to Do It?

Сrеdit gоеs to Charodey!

First of all, you need to make sure that you are not in the lobby of the game, it’s better to just exit it. You also need to edit your face in the game at least once and save it, this will help us in the future.

After you exit the game, press the Win + R key combination on the keyboard. This will open the Run menu.

In this menu, in the “Open” line, we need to enter the word “regedit” (Without quotes) and click OK. This command will open the “Registry Editor” for us.

In the Registry Editor menu, we need to write “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Landfall Games\Content Warning” in the search bar (Without replacing “Computer\”). This will open the registry of the Content Warning to us.

In the registry of the game, we look for a file named “Face Test_h”, click on it and select “Modify” in the pop-up window.

So we opened the window that we need to create a custom face. In it, we only need to change the string, which consists of pairs of letters or numbers. You can choose your favorite face from the examples that I have given below, or make your own. Just keep in mind that you will not be able to copy and paste the code, you must first delete the previous one, and then write a new one.

Once you have entered your custom face code, click OK, log in to the game and enjoy your new face!

How Do I Create a Custom Face?

The concept is fairly simple. For each character you want to include in your face, you need to find the UTF-8 hexadecimal representation of that character. For instance, ‘Щ’ is D0A9 and ‘☹’ is E298B9 so you would enter D0 A9 E2 98 B9 into your registry. Additionally, the registry entry should always end in 00, so your final created face of Щ☹ would be D0 A9 E2 98 B9 00.

Please note that some symbols in the game will be displayed as an empty square, so check them in advance.

Note: Here is a website (GitHub) that will help you translate the character into code (just remove the “\x” in front of the letters).

I love games and I live games. Video games are my passion, my hobby and my job. My experience with games started back in 1994 with the Metal Mutant game on ZX Spectrum computer. And since then, I’ve been playing on anything from consoles, to mobile devices. My first official job in the game industry started back in 2005, and I'm still doing what I love to do.

  1. You can also use Alt codes to enter symbols, but the ALT code must be 4 digits, so you have to math some of them (it loops over and repeats)
    Alt+0213, -, Alt+0212 = Õ-Ô

  2. Ends up blank, doesnt work, i tried modify and modify binary, didnt work! trying to use e2 97 90 cf 89 e2 97 91 if that helps!

  3. You can get this working under Proton on Linux. The easiest way needs protontricks. Open that and select Content Warning. Then, go “Select the default wineprefix” and “Run regedit” to open the Registry Editor. Wine regedit doesn’t have an address bar, so you have to navigate the directory tree yourself. That’s not very difficult, because the average wine registry has much fewer entries than a windows registry.
