Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Charlotta FAQ and Mini-Guide

A quick FAQ and mini-guide for commonly asked questions about Charlotta.

FAQ

Q: What skills do I use???

A: Shining Onslaught, Sword of Lumiel, Holy Ladder, Invincible.

Q: What is her rotation? Do I just spam attack??

A: No. For an in-depth breakdown, please see this video guide by Mystic.

There’s some nuance to Charlotta… but here’s some general rules of thumb for her:

  • Gold = Good
  • Blue = Bad
  • Spin = Win

Charlotta’s “Heavy (Y/Right-Click/△) Attack”, Noble Strategy, launches her into the air. It is here that you have the option between three finishers:

  1. No-input Finisher (touch nothing, fall downwards while spinning)
  2. Power Strike (slam downward) [ Y / Right-Click / △ ]
  3. Power Lunge (launch forwards while spinning) [ x / Left-Click / ■ ]

As stated above, spin = win. That means you will be choosing either Option 1 or Option 3. Power Lunge, aka Option 3, is the more powerful attack (higher cap)… but it’s actually less powerful unless you’re running powerful sigils. If you’re very-very late game, running 100% Crit Rate, max-Munitions, solid Over-Masteries, and have several very high-level sigils (eg. Stamina, Tyranny, Life on the Line, Combo Finisher, Combo Booster)… you’ll probably do more damage with Lunge. If you’re not, you’ll probably do more damage with No-input.

While Option 2 isn’t the best for damage, it does have high stun! Use this for niche scenarios.

With all of the above in mind, the general idea of Charlotta’s rotation is to maintain Noble Stance (sword glowing gold) and use your two finishers. A lot. Shining Onslaught and Sword of Lumiel both put you into Noble Stance. Holy Ladder can be dodge canceled in midair, allowing for an immediate finisher, and cools down roughly twice as fast as the other skills.

So here’s a simple rotation to consider using:

  • Shining Onslaught + Finisher →
  • Holy Ladder (Dodge Cancel) + Finisher →
  • Sword of Lumiel (Full Charge) + Finisher →
  • Holy Ladder (Dodge Cancel) + Finisher → repeat

In the above example, we use “Holy Ladder” as a sort of bridge between skills for an extra finisher. You can also perform a finisher immediately after a Link Attack. Sometimes you’ll notice Onslaught/Lumiel aren’t close to coming off cooldown yet – when this happens, instead of transitioning from Onslaught/Lumiel/Link Attack directly into your finisher… you can instead just keep mashing the attack button until either Onslaught/Lumiel are near cooldown. The general idea with Charlotta is that you should never need to use light attacks to trigger Noble Stance – just use your skills. As stated above, Blue = Bad! The only reason to spam light attacks is for skill cooldowns (which is why Luster is a great Sigil; see below).

Q: What are good Sigils to use for Charlotta?

A: It’s not a straightforward answer, but here’s the General Sigil Priority:

Must Have Sigils:

  • Damage Cap (x4)
  • Supp Dmg (x2 or x3)
  • War Elemental (x1)
  • Holy Knight’s Luster (x1)
  • Crit Hit Rate (x1)

100% Crit Rate can be achieved by rolling 20% Crit Rate on Overmasteries and by using a Level 10 Crit Rate Wrightstone. Hence why we typically only need 1 Crit Rate Sigil. In other words… it’s not so much the Sigil itself that is “must have,” but rather the trait (eg: it’s fine to have Crit Rate Lvl15 as a sub-roll on a different Sigil). These are not listed in order of importance, since they’re all pretty much a must.

As for “Supp Dmg x2 or x3,” sometimes it’s actually better to drop a Supp Dmg to free up a slot for something like, say, Stamina or Tyranny (assuming you don’t already have 1 of each). Generally you should only worry about adding a 3rd Supp Dmg when you’re able to free up an additional slot by sub-rolling a Utility Sigil onto something like Dmg Cap, or a Wrightstone.

Best Damage Sigils:

In order of importance.

  • Combo Booster (x1)
  • Stamina (x1)
  • Tyranny (x1) OR Combo Finisher (x1)
  • Life on the Line (x1)

Generally speaking, you want at least 2 or 3 of these and many will consider these “must have” Sigils. However, you won’t have space for all of them unless you get really lucky, so a good combination to more or less guarantee high damage is Combo Booster, Stamina, and Tyranny and/or Combo Finisher. You can also swap Tyranny with Life on the Line if you don’t like the -20% HP.

These are listed “in order of importance,” but for the most part they’re all interchangeable. When I reference importance, I’m mostly just speaking about what will give you the most damage. While you’ll be capping most skills and basic attacks, the cap for our Lunge Finisher (explained above) is very high, and it’s our highest damaging attack, hence why the extra damage is ideal.

If you’re wondering if you’re already capping your Lunge Finisher, the answer is: very very unlikely.

Best Utility Sigils:

In order of importance.

  • Potion Hoarder (x1)
  • Improved Dodge (x1)
  • Stout Heart (x1)
  • Guts (x1)
  • Holy Knight’s Grandeur (x1)
  • Autorevive (x1)
  • Aegis (x1)

You’ll definitely want at least Potion Hoarder and Guts, especially if you’re running Tyranny. Improved Dodge is really good for survivability, and also really good for repositioning while keeping yourself in Noble Stance. Some people like Stout Heart more than Improved Dodge, and that’s fine… but unless you got really lucky with Sigil sub-rolls, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to run both. I’d recommend Improved Dodge, especially considering it can get sub-traits, while Stout Heart cannot.

Speaking of sub-traits (IMPORTANT): generally speaking, you’ll want to stack all of your utility as sub-rolls on other Sigils, or as secondary traits on your Wrightstones. Filling an entire Sigil slot with a Utility Sigil, while often inevitable… is not ideal. That being said, having AT LEAST Potion Hoarder and Guts is, in my opinion, a MUST. The biggest DPS loss is downtime… and the biggest cause of downtime is… you guessed it… dying. So if you need to fill a Sigil slot with Utility, do not hesitate.

The only reason I placed Guts lower than Improved Dodge/Stout Heart in priority is because with enough skill, you can technically get away with just Potion Hoarder, and Improved Dodge/Stout Heart serve as really nice utility, not just survivability. But for most people, I recommend Guts and Hoarder, paired with either Improved Dodge OR Stout Heart.

Q: Is Grandeur a bad/mid Sigil? Should I get Awakening+?

A: Grandeur is not a bad Sigil to run at all, it’s just that… as you can see if you read the Sigil Section above… it’s fairly low on her priority list, especially in comparison to Luster, her Damage Sigils, and some Utility Sigils. Running Awakening is fine/safe generally speaking… but sometimes you can save an entire Sigil slot by not running it. For example… getting a Luster + Crit Rate, or a Luster + Stamina Sigil would free up a slot. If removing Grandeur from your build frees up a slot for something better, then I’d recommend it. Otherwise, there’s no reason to not run that, or Awakening+.

Q: Why not Cascade instead of Luster?

A: Cascade isn’t a bad sub-trait for Charlotta, but it’s not even remotely comparable to Luster and it’s also not as good as Quick Cooldown (in my opinion). Reason being: the cooldown% on Cascade changes depending on the type of attack you’re doing. Light attacks, for example, get less benefit from it. Simply put: the effects of Cascade are way less significant than the effects of Luster (this has been thoroughly tested).

Q: What are some other good sub-rolls? Quick Cooldown/Uplift?

A: Assuming you’ve followed the above Sigil recommendations and understand what Sigils are most important for your build (including at least 2 or 3 Utility)… then it’s fine to have “Pink” sub-traits in your build as “extras.” For example, Damage Cap V+ Sigils commonly roll sub-traits like Cascade, Quick Cooldown, Uplift, etc. Out of these, the one’s I’d recommend are Quick Cooldown, Uplift, Cascade, and/or Nimble Onslaught. While you’re not necessarily dependent on these in any way, they certainly can’t hurt to have, unless you’re dropping something that would be much more useful in favor of them.

Q: What Overmasteries should I go for?

A: In order of importance, assuming you’re following the above guidance…

20% Crit Rate = Normal Damage Cap > Skill Damage Cap > SBA Cap = Stun Power

As mentioned above, with 20% Crit Rate on Overmastery + 1x Crit Rate Sigil + 10 Crit Rate from your Wrightstone… you’ll get a perfect 100% Crit Rate. So most people recommend Crit Rate 20% above all else for Overmasteries. That being said, having additional “Damage Cap” for both Skills and Normal Attacks is really nice. Charlotta’s SBA is actually fairly easy to cap, with the exception of her “Initiate” attack, so SBA Cap can be a good 4th roll… though SBA Damage isn’t too bad either (for the Initiate).

A word of wisdom: don’t try to get “perfect Overmasteries.” I’ve spent hundreds of thousands of MSP, and the best combination I’ve managed to get is 20% Normal Dmg Cap and 20% Crit Rate with random 3rd and 4th stats.

Some examples of good rolls:

  • Crit Rate 20% + Normal Dmg Cap 16% / 20% + Skill Dmg Cap 12% / 16% / 20%.
  • Crit Rate 20% + Normal Dmg Cap 20% + (Useless Stat) + (Useless Stat)
  • Crit Rate 20% + Normal Dmg Cap 16% + Skill Dmg Cap 16% + (Useless Stat)

The 4th stat is completely optional, and far less important than the main three: aka Crit Rate 20%, Normal Cap, and Skill Cap. Keep that in mind.

Q: I can’t land all 6 Lunge Finisher attacks on Ser Barrold. What to do?

A: Due to Ser Barrold’s height, it’s quite hard to get all hits to land when testing your Lunge Finisher. This is not a problem in normal combat scenarios, since most things are big and easy to hit. If you’re trying to parse and looking for a way to land all 6 hits of Lunge… the best advice I can give is to just practice. You can’t jump too high and you can’t jump too low or you’ll miss a few of the hits. Try letting go of your joystick during the dodge, then holding forward during the Lunge… this method works well for me.

This also raises another point: when fighting small/regular enemies, it’s sometimes better to use no-input finisher, since there’s a pretty high chance you’ll miss a few hits of your Lunge.

Q: I’m considering playing Charlotta. Is she any good?

A: Charlotta is actually amazing. Not only would I say she’s one of the best characters in the game… I’d argue she might be THE best. She has competitive damage, insane mobility, great survivability (a 15s invuln is nuts), her size allows for tight positioning, she has a built-in parry, a ranged attack that gives her invincibility frames, a good mix of both AoE and single-target… and she’s fairly easy to both learn and master.

That’s not to say that she lacks complexity – doing high damage with her definitely requires some skill and practice… but you have plenty of tools in your kit to help you through the learning process. She’s one of the few characters who seems to play exactly the way the developers intended. So yeah, I’d highly recommend Charlotta. She gets bonus points for the cuteness factor.
