Introduction

Hello As in the description, me and my friend have found a very powerful army composition in the game for auto resolving battles.

I will also include the best marshal skills to complement the army to get the best out of your units.

Army Composition

The best army composition we have found so far for early combat consists of:

  • 4 Spearmen
  • 2 Swordsmen
  • 2 Archers
  • Light Spearmen have a base defense of 75.
  • Heavy Spearmen have a base defense of 110.

With a few bonuses you can easily get Light Spearmen on par with Heavy Spearmen in nearly all stats.

Swordsmen and Archers are a different ball game because their is a vast variety of Sword and Board and Missile units.

  1. Go full cav if lucky full elite horse archers. As ERE I have 50% Cataphracts 50 % HA just conquered some steplands so will convert my HA into Heavy HAs.

    Bloody expensive, bloody food consuming.

    • I do agree with you however the stats for all the units are just all over the place, they all need redoing

    • Yea man, its seriously messed up how some stats on the units are designed. I think they’ll end up balancing it a bit more based on player feed back.

  2. I’ve been playing the Total War series since 2010. This game taught me that 2 light cavalries can’t beat 1 peasant + 1 archer.

  3. Nope, this doesn’t work that well.
    1. Heavy swordman have only 6 speed, whitch make them slowest unit availeble. Your army just can’t retreat from someone with heavy swordman.
    2. Archers is unbalance shit right now. They cheap, they attack enemy without casualties, they dig enemy morale into the ground in few shots. It’s a big miss not bring at least 3 squad of archers in army.
    3. Horseman, for now at lest, is meta. You take 1-2 squad with general, flank enemy army, kill enemy general, ???, profit.
You can win by beatin all enemy solders on a field, no dought, BUT with greater losses, than just shot they morale into 0 or killin general

    • As stated in the description before the guide, this is an AUTO Battle army, this has been the best army to auto resolve battles.

  4. No horsemen? Having them charge into the enemy when they’ve charged into my spearmen (so I would swap the swordsmen to horsemen) works out a lot better, just don’t charge horsemen, even the noble cavalry, into a group not already engaged, i don’t know why but they always lose.

  5. Yea, I run three generals. One is full cav and they wreck armies. I generally use them for the full archer armies the AI seems to love to make.

    Squish they go.

I use 3 light, 3 heavy and 2 archer cav.

Its a quick intervention unit to keep my main two armies I use for sieging free to do what they do best. Get me more land.

And regardless of what enemy composition is for them…I have heavy spear & heavy swordsmen along with heavy cav and heavy archers along with catapults.

I let the AI come at me. Easy victory. I use the cav to flank their commander if I can or take the capture points…or target their archers.
