Overview

This guide will show you how to set up a second, independent, and modded version of Lethal Company in your Steam Library so that you may easily switch between playing vanilla and modded lobbies to join any of your fellow employees.

This guide is intended for players who wish to frequently switch between the base game and modded without having to edit the game’s directory every time.

Lethal Company does not allow modded and unmodded clients to play together – every player in the lobby must have mods installed or everyone must have none, otherwise an error regarding differing game versions is given.

1) Make a copy of Lethal Company’s folder

Make a copy of Lethal Company’s folder and store it somewhere you can find later. It shouldn’t matter where. I placed my folder’s copy right next to the original in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Lethal Company.

You can find the game’s directory/folder by right clicking it in your Steam library, and selecting “Manage” > “Browse local files”

2) [Optional] Renaming the second Lethal Company files

I recommend renaming the duplicate Lethal Company so that your Steam Library displays the two versions of the game with different names. To do this, you have to rename two things in the Copy directory the exact same way: the folder “Lethal Company_Data” and the executable application “Lethal Company.” The name of the folder must exactly match the name of the executable, suffixed by “_Data”

My Copy directory will host the modded version of the game, so I will rename the application to “Lethal Company Modded” and the data folder to “Lethal Company Modded_Data”

You can do it the other way around, too – having the original be the modded game while the duplicate serves as the base game launcher. Just don’t get them mixed up with each other.

3) Add the second Lethal Company to your Steam library

“[+] Add a Game” > “Add a non-Steam Game…”.

Click “Browse” on the window that pops up and navigate to and select the executable/application of your copied Lethal Company.

After selecting the executable (“Lethal Company Modded” for the example above), confirm with “Add Selected Programs” and you should now have two entries of Lethal Company in your Steam library.

4) Mod your game

Mod your game as you would normally, using either one of the Lethal Company directories while leaving the other untouched to serve as the vanilla game launcher.

For my example, since I chose to have the original “Lethal Company” folder be the vanilla game, I will be dumping mods into the “/…/common/Lethal Company – Copy” folder.

5) Confirming it works

Confirm it works by launching each version of the game from Steam. The vanilla version of the game should read “v40” in the bottom-left of the main menu, and the modded client should read “v40 MOD” in the corner.

  1. I just cut the bepenix folder out of my game folder and put it back in when I want modded again. So far it seems to be working.
