As far as a good starting, see if you can find Vixy and build a pen. It’s only common, but you get infinite pal spheres.

Also if you can try to catch a Nitewing and get a saddle so you can explore for eggs and things easier. Both those have helped me a ton.

Also I would recommend catching a Lifmunk, the have a great set of ranged attacks, easy to catch and a versatile set of skills for working around the base.

Plus they can use a submachine gun fairly early. And they’re adorable.

Don’t be too scared of spending points on tech, the dungeons in the game reward a training manual that give +1 Tech point.

That being said no need to spam techs you don’t need, but still don’t be afraid to research around.
