Guide to Mining Laser Crafting

General

I’m someone who usually hates any kind of crafting in any game, but laious, the developer, made a very good crafting system that is both very easy to learn and use, and you can get very creative and in-depth, crafting from superior 1 point rapid lasers up to 12+ point super weapons.

You’ll learn that 99% of the time you’ll want to craft all of your weapons, just using the stock purchased weapons as temporary fills until you get the scrap metal and other components to craft your own weapons- equipment and most other items you will want to buy from stations, as crafting those are nice, but just duplicate those items- but from the start of any new game, a crafted blue laser or mining laser will be 2x to 3x better than a similar purchased weapon.

And many ‘simple’ weapons you can craft easily and early on- you just have to have a bit of tech level learned, and 1-3 of each crystal and 3-6 scrap metal roughly- tech level 5 will let you craft a good array of simple weapons, tech level 9 will let you craft laser beams, tech level 12 will get you automatic targeting for missiles and other items- by tech level 18 you will have access to 80% or more of all the available weapon types

Mining Lasers

Even an initial, at the start, 1 point crafted mining laser is 2x better than the purchasable, 1 point ‘simple mining laser’. As soon as I can, every new started game, the first thing I craft is a better mining laser. I will use 1 or 2 of those purchased simple mining lasers (you always start with 1) – mine for some good, starting credits, get up to geology level 5 so you can mine red crystals from the reddish asteroids, and then you only need 1 blue crystal, 1 red crystal, 1 microchip, and 3 scrap metal to craft a 1 point mining laser. Use this until your tech level gets higher and then craft an even better mining laser.

2 Well crafted 1 point mining lasers, or a single 2 point sized mining laser is usually all you will need for the entire game, especially later on, when you upgrade it to purple-tier quality. Craft a 2 point mining laser, do not buy that 3 point ‘heavy mining laser’ you will see later- it’s ok, but far weaker than a crafted 2 point version

If you get really heavy into mining, like I do, and you do have a donkey which is a good mining ship- pmc ships are among the best mining ships, the bolder, mule, donkey, and my personal favorite, the scourge. Anyway, once you get the crafting down, craft a good 2 or 3 point mining laser. If you want to go for a big mining laser, you could make a 4+ pointer, but that shouldn’t be necessary.

I’ve been playing star valor for over 2 years and have 5,000+ hours and over time I streamlined and consistently use this 3 point crafted mining laser I call a ‘tri-core mining laser’. Here is a screenshot of the stats to help you out:

That gives you all the materials needed, the tech level, and the stats on the left are the base, initially crafted mining laser, the stats on the right is the same laser but maxed up to purple quality. It’s on my PMC scourge as well, so those stats should be similar to what you end up crafting for your donkey.

That should give you a big help, at least for a heavy, high-quality mining laser. After crafting that, and my above advice, you should start getting the hang of crafting many other weapons of all types- hope this was helpful.
