Stellaris – Planet Class: Resource District Capacity

Quick Guide to Resource District Capacity

TLDR

Savannah has the best energy, Ocean has the best food (not because of anglers). Arid has higher chance for food than energy, on average.

The energy/mineral/food capacity of any given world is determined by its planetary features. Stuff like Arid Highlands, Boggy Fens, etc. These all have their own terraforming conversions between deposits of the same value and type, so terraformation isn’t relevant – only random planet generation.

(Homeworlds and various scripted planets have static deposit setups, and will ignore planet generation).

Also when i say “Rurals” I mean Generator, Mining and Farming district types.

Every deposit has a specific weighting, to determine how likely that deposit will be picked for a generated world. Higher weight, higher chance – compared to the total of all other available deposits, in a “pool”.

There is also a minimum and maximum value for each Rural that the game is expecting. I’m not entirely sure how the game actually generates a planet’s full set of deposits, but essentially the game wants:

  • A maximum of 15 Capacity for each, and
  • A minimum of 3, 1, and 3 Capacity for Energy, Minerals and Food respectively.

It usually goes over 15 Cap. in any given resource, because it checks that limit before adding a deposit, some giving 3 Cap. But it’s roughly 15.

The three climate types – Cold, Dry and Wet also have (negligible) bonuses to which Rural type they have the most of. Cold is Minerals, Dry is Energy, Wet is Food, with a bonus weight of x1.5.

Except for Desert, Arid and Ocean worlds, which have a much greater pool for Food because of 3 random features. (Green Hills, Marvelous Oasis, Tropical Island).

Also, Relic worlds count as Dry. Apparently.

I hope you found this useful!
