WARDOGS – Troubleshooting Guide

Ultimate Guide: How to Fix

Unable to Join Game: Returning to Main Screen

This issue has been witnessed a few times. A quick solution is to verify your game files and retry.

Verify Game Files

  1. Launch Steam and navigate to your Library tab.
  2. Right-click WarDogs.
  3. Select Properties… from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click the Installed Files tab on the left sidebar. Older versions of Steam may call this Local Files.
  5. Click Verify integrity of game files.
  6. Retry the game.

Elytra Anti-Cheat Failing to Start or Install

  1. Open the game’s installation folder.
  2. Open the Elytra subfolder.
  3. Right-click Elytra-Setup.exe and choose Properties.
  4. Go to the Digital Signatures tab.
  5. Select the signature in the list and click Details.
  6. Click View Certificate.
  7. Open the Certification Path tab.
  8. Wait until the status reads “This certificate is OK.”
  9. Close all the dialogs.
  10. Relaunch the game.

Error – CreateProcess: The Requested Operation Requires Elevation

This issue has been resolved for some players by removing Run as admin (in advanced) from Game.exe or the shortcut itself.

The success rate is unknown, but this has worked with a few players.

Error – The Anti-Cheat Service Refused the Game Executable

A recent successful solution is:

  1. Uninstall the game.
  2. Reboot your PC. This allows anti-cheat files to be cleared up.
  3. Install the game again.

This is not confirmed to be a 100% fix, but success has been seen when following these steps exactly.

Missing WARDOG Role After Reaching the Required Playtime

Firstlook tracks the App ID for the WARDOGS app. The playtest was conducted on the separate WARDOGS Playtest app, which means playtest time is not tracked.

At some point, the role may be assigned to people who participated in the playtest. This is not currently a priority.

AMD Driver Version Reported as “Outdated”

If the game reports an “Outdated” driver version when starting up, but AMD Adrenalin shows that you are using the latest drivers, this is a false positive.

If AMD Adrenalin shows that your drivers are up to date, no action is required.

Error 0xc0000142: Easy Anti-Cheat or Error Dump on Startup

  1. Delete the EAC folder in the game installation directory.
  2. Restart your PC.
  3. Verify the integrity of the game files.
  4. Set EasyAntiCheat and Easy Anti-Cheat Epic Games Services to Automatic.
  5. Reboot your PC.

If the issue persists, try the following in order:

  1. Run Windows Update.
  2. Run sfc /scannow.
  3. Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
  4. Wipe and reinstall your GPU driver. DDU can be used for this.
  5. On AMD systems, disable the Adrenalin overlay.

(DDU is great for this https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/)

Unable to Get Past Audio Selection

This issue is related to the UI scale and localization.

Navigate Using the Arrow Keys

Hover over the options and use the arrow keys to navigate down to the confirmation option.

Change the Language Manually

  1. Close the game.
  2. Press Win + R.
  3. Enter %localappdata%\Wardogs\Saved\Config\WindowsClient and press Enter or OK.
  4. Open GameUserSettings.ini.
  5. Find the line containing Language=.
  6. Change the value after = to en for English, so it reads Language=en.
  7. Save the file.
  8. Start the game.

VOIP Issues: Unable to Talk In-Game

If you are unable to use Local or Squad Chat and see a red cross, try the following:

  1. Press Tab to open the scoreboard.
  2. Press U to disconnect from VOIP.
  3. Wait 5 seconds.
  4. Press U again to reconnect.
  5. Retry Squad or Local Chat.

If you still see a red cross, you may need to reload the game.

Server List Empty: Unable to See Any Servers

This is a known bug. As a temporary workaround:

  1. Go to the Region button at the bottom of the server list.
  2. Select only one region.

Key Binding: Unable to Set Key Binds

Close the game and edit the key configuration at:

%LocalAppData%\Wardogs\Saved\Config\WindowsClient

This directory also contains GameUserSettings.ini.

Please Unload X.sys, BSOD, or Driver-Related Dump

Common culprits include:

  • ASUS Aura Sync: Close it. miso64.sys may be involved.
  • ASUS AsUpIO: Run sc stop AsUpIO from an elevated command prompt.
  • Novabench: Uninstall it and its drivers.
  • AMD Adrenalin overlay: Do not open it. Disable hotkeys and the overlay, and use the AMD app directly instead.
  • CmUpx.sys: Rename C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CmUpx.sys to .old and reboot.
  • Other drivers such as ssgdio64.sys may work the same way. Some may require Safe Mode. Also check C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers.

Only rename a driver that you have positively identified. If you are unsure, send the exact .sys name or do not modify it.

No Audio or Sound

Your device format may be too high.

In Windows Sound > Device Properties > Advanced, lower the format to 24-bit, 44.1 kHz.

Very high bit-depth or 384 kHz devices can break game audio.

Crashes Instantly at Launch

If the game crashes immediately at launch with no error or produces a dump before the menu, try the following:

  1. Add your Steam and WARDOGS folders to Defender exclusions.
  2. Delete the EasyAntiCheat folder and verify the game files.
  3. Close MSI Afterburner, RTSS, and any overlays. On AMD systems, turn off the control-panel overlay.
  4. Update your GPU drivers.
  5. Run sfc /scannow and DISM.
  6. Install the latest Visual C++ redistributables.
  7. Run Steam as administrator.
  8. Disable Smart App Control.
  9. Disable HAGS.
  10. Restart the PC for these changes to take effect.
  11. If you are on Windows 11 Insider, revert to stable 25H2.

Crashing 1 to 2 Minutes Into Every Match

  1. Go to Settings > Graphics.
  2. Turn PIP (picture-in-picture) scopes off.
  3. Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date.

Anti-Cheat Login Failed: EAC Won’t Install

  1. Relaunch the game from Steam rather than using the in-game restart.
  2. Close any other anti-cheat software. A third-party anti-cheat, such as Anti-Cheat Expert, can block EAC.
  3. Delete EasyAntiCheat from the game installation folder.
  4. Verify the game files.
  5. Delete C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat_EOS.
  6. Switch networks. A restrictive or parental-controlled network can block EAC. Examples include TP-Link Deco with mature content blocked and locked-down work Wi-Fi.
  7. Try with antivirus disabled.
  8. Reinstall EAC using EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe.

The EAC setup is located in the WARDOGS Steam folder, for example:

steamapps\common\WARDOGS Playtest\EasyAntiCheat

1147405xxx: Invalid Game Version

  1. Right-click WARDOGS in Steam.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open Installed Files.
  4. Click Verify integrity of game files.
  5. Install the update it finds.
  6. Relaunch the game.

Invalid_Kernel_Handle: Full PC Crash or BSOD

INVALID_KERNEL_HANDLE can cause a full PC crash or BSOD.

Stop playing until this is fixed. Kernel crashes can corrupt Windows.

  1. Uninstall Windows update KB5121003.
  2. Be on Windows 11 24H2. 25H2, Insider, and Windows 10 are commonly implicated.
  3. If uninstalling the update is blocked, see https://linustechtips.com/topic/1641862-kb5121003-and-incompatible-driver-inpoutx64sys-makes-some-games-crash/
  4. If you do not want to revert, see https://www.reachthefinals.com/patchnotes/s11-crash-troubleshooting
  5. After any full PC crash, run DISM and sfc /scannow as administrator.
  6. Reboot the PC.

Application Control and Certificates

  1. Open Windows Security.
  2. Go to App & browser protection > Reputation-based protection.
  3. Turn Reputation-based protection off.
  4. If needed, temporarily disable real-time protection.
  5. Clear the shader cache folders.
  6. Launch the game through Steam so the cache can rebuild.
  7. Turn real-time protection back on.

Kernelbase.dll

  1. Verify the game files through Steam.
  2. Reboot your PC.
  3. If the game is still crashing, disable GPU features such as FSR and DLSS.
  4. Disable HAGS and Windows optimizations.

Streamline and Upscalers: NVIDIA and AMD

Disable the following in the NVIDIA or AMD app:

  • DLSS
  • FSR
  • NIS
  • Frame Generation

Also disable:

  • HAGS
  • Windows Game Optimizations

On AMD systems, disabling FSR was the only working fix for some players.

Inpoutx64.sys

inpoutx64.sys is associated with RGB, Razer, Armoury Crate, and GCC software. EAC flags this driver, especially after a Windows update.

In an elevated PowerShell window, run sc.exe config inpoutx64 start= disabled and sc.exe stop inpoutx64.

Reboot the PC.

After rebooting, run sc.exe query inpoutx64. It should show STOPPED.

If the driver comes back, uninstall the RGB or motherboard software associated with it. Armoury Crate is a common culprit.

Platformcore.dll

This is one of the most confirmed issues.

  1. Turn Memory Integrity off under Windows Security > Device security > Core isolation.
  2. Run WarFixer as administrator.
  3. In WarFixer, select 1, then y to create a restore point.
  4. Quit WarFixer.
  5. Reboot your PC.

If it fails, run WarFixer twice.

Also check:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\PolicyExtensions

If present, delete:

  • MpeHttpEx
  • MpeHttpExt
