This is a small guide, it will go trough the basics of destiny. This guide does assume that you are know with pc fps shooters, and will not go into details.
First Person Screen
RADAR: In the left top corner of your screen you will see the radar, this shows you the general directions of enemies when they are near you. Remember this does not show the place where they are, only their direction.
BUFFS: Below the radar on the left side of the screen, you will see the buffs you have. When you have a buff (a positive effect) or a d buff (negative effect), it will show up here.
Abilities and Weapons
ABILITIES: in the bottom corner on the left side of the screen, you will see your abilities and weapons. You have 4 abilities in total: grenade, melee, class and super.
When a symbol is fully coloured in, that means that your ability is ready to use. If not that means that it is still charging.
If your super bar is yellow, that means that your super is ready to use.
Each class has his own class ability (warlocks have a rift, titans have a barricade, hunters have a dodge).
WEAPONS: to the right of your abilities you can also see your weapons and ammo count here.
Note: As you can see on the image above, my abilities are not colored in, so that means I can not use them at the moment, and they have to recharge.
WORLD NOTIFICATIONS: Also on the image you can see text on the left side of the screen just above the super bar. These are world notifications, these tell you about things that happen in the world and are in your direct vicinity.
NAVIGATION MODE: Press (tab on pc), to open up navigation mode, you will put away your gun, and pull out your ghost. This is use full when looking for a secret or need a light, just pull out your ghost. It also shows you the following things.
TRACKED QUEST: If you track a quest in your quest tab, it will show up here. (the quest tab will come up later)
POINT OF INTEREST: In the world there can be various points of interest like: mission objectives, persons, public events, or patrols. If you ever are looking for something and can’t find the way, try to see if you can find it when you are in navigation mode.
NAME OF LOCATION: Show you the name of the place where you now are.
OPTIONS: You have the following options in navigation mode.
- To summon your vehicle: summon a sparrow with which you can traverse the world. (not possible on every location or in every activity)
- Return to orbit: you will return to orbit
- Open director screen: opens up the director screen, from where you can start or choose your next activity or location.
Press and hold tab to go to the director screen.
Director / Destinations
If you start up destiny, and you have selected a character. You will start in orbit and can choose director. If you are in a mission or the open world. Press tab to go to navigation mode, and press tab again to go to director.
OPTIONS: Shows the different menus you can access, you will see this bar on every menu.
WORLDS: These are the different worlds you can visit, click on them to see the map for that world. There you can see all the public events that are happening, missions available, or activities that are on that planet (strikes and raids).
VANGUARD: Go to the vanguard menu, from here you can choose to play vanguard strikes, or the weekly nightfall.
- VANGUARD STRIKES: you will play random strikes from all the worlds, finish the strike to receive loot.
- NIGHTFALL THE ORDEAL: you will play the strike of the week, this strike can be played on higher difficulty tiers to receive better loot, but you will have champions and modifiers.
- GRAND MASTER NIGHTFALL: you will play the strike of the week, but this time it is the highest difficulty tier.
GAMBIT: Go to the gambit menu, from here you can choose to play gambit in matchmaking, or in a private match with friends.
CRUCIBLE: Go to the crucible menu, from here you can choose various player versus player game modes, or in a private match with friends.
THE TOWER: The social hub of destiny, here you will find your vault, postmaster, and more.
Click on a planet (in this case Nessus) to see the local map for that world.
Local Map
When you are on a planet press M (on pc) or when you are in orbit and click on a planet you will see the following screen.
OPTIONS: Shows the different menus you can access, you will see this bar on every menu.
PLAYER MARKER: Shows your position on the map, if you are already on that world.
PUBLIC EVENT: These are events in the open world, you can participate with multiple players and complete the objective to receive loot. To set a way point to this location left click on it, you will get a way point to this activity.
VENDOR: Every planet has one or more vendors, these vendors can give you bounties, and missions to complete on that planet.
SPAWN POINT: You can select this point, to spawn in that location in the world.
LOST SECTOR: These are hidden places, you will find it full of enemies, a boss and a chest in the end. Defeat the boss, and you can open the chest to receive loot.
REGION CHEST: This is a hidden chest each world has a couple of these, go to the location and try to find it for some loot.
LOCAL STRIKE: A strike is a mission, that you can repeat. Each strike plays out on one of the worlds. If you want to play a specific strike go to that world where that strike plays out, and find the strike on the map to select it.
In the options bar on the top, you will see the option ‘quest” click on that.
Quest
OPTIONS: Shows the different menus you can access, you will see this bar on every menu.
QUEST: Here you will see all the active quest that you have picked up. To see more details about a quest, hover over it to see more information and options relating to the quest. Press right click to see even more details about the quest. If you press left-click on a quest, you can track it, and its progress will show in navigation mode.
FILTER: Here you can filter the view of your different quest. Press on a filter to apply it.
BOUNTIES: Almost all vendors that you will come across will be selling bounties. These are small tasks that you can pick up and do, for experience and more. All bounties that you will pick up will appear here.
Hover your mouse over them to see what you need to do to complete the bounty. If you press left-click on a bounty, you can track it, and its progress will show in nave mode. When you have done a bounty it will have lines and an exclamation mark at the right bottom corner, hover over it and left click to turn the bounty in and get the reward.
In the options bar on the top, you will see the option “Roster” click on that.
Roster
OPTIONS: Shows the different menus you can access, you will see this bar on every menu.
GAME: Shows you the list with all the players in your local game. Now it is empty, but should you load in to an open world, or into a social area. All players in your area will appear here. You can hover over a player, and mouse click to have more options. Such like, inspect the players character or send him a friend request or an invite, or join the players fire team (if their fire team is open, if a fire team is open you will see the icon within the blue square).
FRIENDS: Same function as the above, only it shows all your available friends.
CLAN: Same function as the above, only it shows all your available clan members.
