- Don’t join survival if you don’t know what it is.
- Do not play random matchmaking with randoms, it’s an automatic frustration generator.
- Native units (95% of the time) do not take population space. This is especially valuable later in the game, because that means you can basically go over the 200 population limit. 2-3 native trading posts and you can make 20-30+ more units than your opponent.
- You can send most home city shipments (and technologies) that give you a bunch of units even when you’re at 199 population. This imo makes the big, expensive mercenary cards really good to have, as you can make a full army and them a bunch of (often very strong) mercenaries to help. Add the natives above and this can be a huge advantage.
- Ships also don’t take population space, so on hybrid maps they can be a huge help, but will take more macromanagement to use them well alongside land troops.
- You can deliver home city shipments to outposts (need to select it on the outpost itself). Especially on bigger maps, this makes a forward camp of barracks/stables/etc. + outposts very valuable, as you can send fresh troops while attacking much more quickly.
