How to alter the game to allow you to:
- Leave a loathed reputation.
- Unlock lower tier difficulty missions once you’ve finished the game.
How to Edit the Core Mechanics
First of all you will need to go into the following directory within your PC:
- Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\data\simGameConstants
In this folder you will find a java script file called simGameConstants.json. What I’d advise you to do first of all is to make a copy of this file and place said copy in your documents folder and put (original file) as part of it’s name so that if you do wish to undo the changes at a later date you can simply paste the file back in. All you need to do is make sure the file name reads as: simGameConstants.json
To make the changes you will need a programme designed to edit .json files. There are websites that will allow you to do this for free. Ones I’ve used are:
How to Leave Loathed Reputation
The lines you need to edit for campaign mode in order to facilitate an easier departure from negative reputations are: 234-236 “LoathedMaxContractDifficulty” “HatedMaxContractDifficulty” “DislikedMaxContractDifficulty”. By default these will have negative numbers -3 to -1. Altering these to 0, 1, 2 or 3 means you can have contracts equal to your global average up to 1.5 skulls greater than the global average offered to you. This will now make it much easier to leave loathed and reach honored reputation. Note that this will happen far quicker if you have a high MRB score.
If you are playing career mode you will need to edit lines 843-845 to 6 from 1, 2 & 3 respectively.
How to Regain Access to Lighter Lance Missions without Losing Your Mrb Rating
To alter the maximum contract difficulty that can be issued before any of the afore mentioned modifiers can be applied you are looking for line 273 “GlobalContractDifficultyMax”. By default this is set to 10. Setting this to 4 will cap the missions offered to 2 skulls at neutral rep, with friendly & honored reputation being able to raise this to 3.5 skulls as the maximum. This definitely works for campaign mode. I haven’t tested it for career mode
Other possible things you might want to alter:
Career Length: adjust line 750: “GameLength” 1200 to whatever you desire in days.
Odds of losing a mech warrior to injury/killshot: lines 117 – 119 “IncapacitatedDeathChance”, “LethalDeathChance” , “GutsDeathReduction”
It is also possible to alter all common financial costs should you so desire. Use this knowledge as you see fit.
