Palworld – Buildings with Stairs That Bigger Pals Can Navigate

So, I’ve been working on making a factory facility for my Assembly Lines, and I think I figured out how to make it work for bigger pals, so I might as well share what I found out.

Tips and More

I tested the pathfinding with my Alpha Lunaris, which was behaving like she was much bigger than she looks when dealing with pathfinding, more like a Huge sized pal like Kingpaca.

So my first tip is to use a big Pal to test the pathfinding as you’re building. It helps seeing where things are not working and fixing them.

Then I figured 2 things out:

1 – she couldn’t move through any square that had a ceiling, or pass through an entrance gap of 1×1 on the wall to get into and out of the building. After some testing, I determined that while Length doesn’t seem to matter, bigger pals need at least 2 walls of height free to move into a position.

In other words, if you make each floor twice as tall (2 walls of height), bigger palls can walk inside the building.

Same goes for entryways. They need to be a gap of at least 1×2.

2 – Stairs. After some time I’ve figured out. The pathfinding appears to count both the bottom and the top of the stairs when determining the height requirements.

That means the ceiling above, from bottom to top of the stairs, must match the same height.

In other words, the ceiling above the entire length of the stairs (including the floor at the bottom and the top of it) must be 2 blocks of height above the top of the stairs for bigger Pals to not be blocked by the ceiling.

Like this:

(4) ______ (ceiling)
(3)
(2) . . . ___ (top of stairs)
(1) __/ . . . . (bottom of stairs)

Also, stairs count as a full 1x1x1 block rather than a half one. That means if you place stairs above other stairs, do remember to count them as if it were a whole block when calculating the height of the ceiling.

Like this:

(5) . . . ___ (top of stairs n2)
(4) __/ . . . . (bottom of stairs n2)
(3)
(2) . . . ___ (top of stairs n1)
(1) __/ . . . . (bottom of stairs n1)

That’s all. So far, my Lunaris can navigate my whole 4 storey building (8 blocks of height) from the 4th floor, all the way back to the ground.

I’ve placed some assembly lines and they’ve been working so far. The pals are getting to them. There’s a weird bug sometimes where they interact with them from the floor below, but even then they still work.
