Overanalysis on Elite and Chest Value
By Concentrication (and die).
Sometimes this situation happens where you get a 2 chest path and a 1 elite path. So what do you do in this position? Which path is better?
As always, I say it depends on the situation. Did I get every common/rare relic I need? Am I still digging for something? Am I strong enough to get an elite? Will I die to the boss if I don’t make my deck stronger?
In general though, if I feel strong enough I go for the elite because rare relics have higher potential to be good.
Even in the worst case scenario, getting rid of one (or 2) bad rare relics makes future elites better because then you have better options. If you get 2 good relics (ex. pegbag and corn), then it sucks, you can’t get the other one, but unless you get a 5% shop rare, a relic event, or a rare chest, (20%) it happens anyways at the next elite.
If you go for the 2 chests, you miss out on a chance to upgrade and get what you are missing (aoe, single target, etc.) and you don’t thin the relic pool. (sometimes good)
Common relics can be important pieces to a build, such as ballusion relics or bomb relics. You see the same amount of relics either way though, it’s just the quality is different. Between 1 elite and 3 chests, I usually take the 3 chests unless I really need a certain rare relic to complete my build.
But also consider the pathing. If you need gold or a better deck, get more fights. Sometimes fights are better then elites, sometimes chests are better then fights, sometimes chests are better then elites, it’s all situational in this game.
Characters also have different priorities. Roundrel loves common relics and can’t kill early elites, balladin loves rare relics and easily wins all early elites, spinventor is probably slightly biased towards rare relics and has strong single target, and peglin loves elites if they can live the fight.
Character and pathing play a huge role in decisions in this game, and chests vs elites is no exception to this.
I hope this was helpful to you!
