Monster Army / Shimazu Clan Walkthrough
- The Monster Army occupies Cairo, Morocco, Amazon, and South Africa.
Appearance and Initial Effects
The Monster Army cannot be interacted with before it interacts with Oda.
It appears only on the Official History, Isoroku, and Kenshin routes. On the Ran and Monkeyslayer routes, you fight the Shimazu Clan instead.

Usually 7 to 10 turns after the first fight with Xavier, Xavier appears in Africa, takes over the Shimazu Clan, and renames it the Monster Army. The Monster Army cannot be vassaled.
When the Monster Army appears:
- Battleship Nagato is automatically taken by the Monster Army if it is owned by Oda or Mouri. This does not happen if Nagato is the last province of the Mouri Clan.
- Two new SAT bonuses become available:
- Volunteer Army Appears in Offensive Battles
- Volunteer Army Appears in Defensive Battles
- These bonuses provide Samurai units whose troop size is determined by your average troop count, excluding Ashigaru. They have 3 moves and 6/6/6/4 stats, but their effectiveness is poor at this stage of the game.
- Chinu Kobayakawa dies on the turn after the Monster Army appears, spawning Apostle Madou.
- Outside the MangaGamer version, aggressive players can trigger Madou’s events before Chinu dies.
After the Monster Army appears, Xavier begins receiving events during his turns. These can occur after using an Operation Permit in one of the Monster Army’s provinces, at the end of the Monster Army’s turn, or after taking territory in one of its provinces through battle.

Shimazu Brothers’ Five Consecutive Attacks
If you have any non-vassaled provinces adjacent to the Monster Army, the Shimazu brothers launch five consecutive attacks against the Oda Clan.
The first four attacks are led by the brothers from oldest to youngest. The final attack is led by Agireda. Each brother appears in the front row with a female Samurai and Ashigaru unit. These accompanying units cannot be captured or killed.
This sequence happens only once.
Unlike the Takeda blitz, there is no reward for winning all five battles and there is no warning that the attacks are about to begin. The final attack is nevertheless probably the best opportunity to capture Agireda because she always appears in the front row.
Certain events take priority over these attacks. If the end-of-turn event where Apostle Madou leaves to join Xavier has been seen, the events where Madou asks whether the Shimazu brothers are really trying and where Xavier discusses Kurohime’s name change take priority. The latter is the final Monster Army event with priority over the attacks and can therefore serve as the last warning before they begin. Only the first of these events can occur as an end-of-turn event.
These attacks are treated as events rather than ordinary attacks. Unlike similar event-based attacks from the Tokugawa and Ashikaga Clans, they are not end-of-turn events. They are ordinary Monster Army events and can therefore:
- Occur during your turn.
- Occur at the end of the Monster Army’s turn.
- Occur between uses of Operation Permits.
- Ignore Political Chaos and other restrictions on how many times a Clan can attack during a turn.
If there are no adjacent provinces available for the attacks, the sequence stops until the conditions are satisfied again. The sequence of attackers continues from where it stopped.
Xavier’s Conquests in the Official History
In the Official History only, if other Clans remain, Xavier can directly take over those Clans, one per event, and convert their provinces into Monster Army provinces.
The Clans spared from this process are:
- Dokuganryu Clan
- Azai-Asakura Clan
- Tanegashima Clan
- Hara Clan
- Tokugawa Clan
- Tenshiism
- Imagawa Clan
In the Kenshin route, Xavier may instead make the Dokuganryu Clan declare war rather than join the Monster Army. This is sometimes considered a glitch.
If the Tokugawa Clan is vassaled, it will declare war on you and conquer Tokaido if the Oda Clan controls it.
Xavier appears to take over Clans in the following order:
- Uesugi
- Takeda
- Mouri
- Houjou
- Iga
- Akashi
- Ashikaga
- Miko Union
- Takuga
Family Bonuses can be used to spare some Clans.
Ran Nanjou dies, often around the point when the Houjou Clan is or would be taken. This does not appear to happen in the Kenshin route.
Apostle Gigai
Depending on how Ran dies, an event may occur in which Apostle Gigai returns to Xavier. If that event does not occur, Gigai can instead return during a random Xavier turn.
Gigai then mentions wanting to fight a strong Oda commander. Afterward, he can appear during Xavier’s turn following battles, at which point you must send a commander to face his challenge.
Some players have reported seeing this event before Ran’s death. It does not appear to occur in the Kenshin route.
If you send Souun Houjou, he kills Gigai, which clears Souun’s character.
If you send Kentarou after he has become a Fiend, Kentarou ties with Gigai and gains three levels. Gigai can challenge Kentarou repeatedly, making this an effective way to level Kentarou rapidly. Gigai can appear before Kentarou becomes a Fiend, especially on the Isoroku route because of the large number of start-of-turn events.
Sending any other commander kills that commander. Sending Rance causes a Game Over.
After the first confrontation with Gigai, a new purple event appears in which Rance considers how to deal with him. When Gigai appears again, choosing Rance triggers a commander battle between your commanders and Gigai. Rance does not need to participate.
Gigai has:
- Level: 53
- HP: 1110
- Standard attack that also reduces the target’s moves by 1
- A hit-all attack requiring preparation, which can be canceled with 3 shurikens
If you lose this battle, there is no Game Over. Instead, Rance is forced to go on his promised “date” with Gigai, which Rance refuses to discuss and which causes him to lose 5 SAT.
Xavier’s Power and the Soul Binder
An event eventually occurs in which Kurohime returns all of Xavier’s power to him. Apostle Madou recommends that Xavier use forbidden youkai. This event does not occur in the Kenshin route.
Because Apostle Gigai appears during this event, Gigai must apparently have been introduced before the event can occur.
After this event, Leila’s unit is at risk.
During one of Xavier’s turns afterward, the Soul Binder is released. This adds Soul Binder Victim units to the Monster Army.
Soul Binder Victims have a standard attack that deals damage and also decreases the maximum troop size of any unit they hit. The amount of the decrease depends on the damage dealt. Their counterattack does not have this effect.
In the Kenshin route, the event where Madou recommends forbidden youkai does not occur, but the Soul Binder is still released. The game’s code suggests that the event where Xavier and Madou discuss how annoying Chaos and Tenshiism are is required instead.
Soul Binder’s Curse
After the post-battle event where 3G tells Kouhime to isolate units that fought Infected units has been seen, the Soul Binder’s curse begins affecting the Oda army at the start of every turn. That post-battle event can only occur after fighting Infected units.
The curse makes one affected unit unusable.
The following exceptions apply:
- Motivating Letter allows the affected unit to act normally.
- A unit equipped with the Tange Dog will never be targeted.
- Normally, only one unit is disabled per turn.
- If the turn count is above 100 and the game is not on the lowest difficulty, two units are disabled per turn.
The curse remains active until the Soul Binder is sealed.
Monster Units
Monster units eventually join the Monster Army. This normally happens after the Infected units have joined or after you have advanced close enough to Battleship Nagato, but it can happen earlier.
It has been speculated that the event, or the events leading to the Infected units joining the Monster Army, may occur once the Monster Army’s troop count becomes sufficiently low. Since the Infected units joining seems to require Gigai to have appeared, it may be possible to force this event by aggressively reducing the Monster Army’s troop count before Gigai has appeared.
Monster units cannot be identified solely by their emblem.
Their troop colors correspond roughly to the following unit types:
| Monster type | Equivalent |
|---|---|
| Green | Ashigaru |
| Blue | Archer, but with counterattack damage |
| Red | Samurai |
| White, mushroom-like head | Mage |
Monster Mages are best compared to Omachi and only use Thunderstrike.
Time Killer Ar and Monster Generals
Once Monster units have appeared, the final battle of every Monster Army province includes a back-row unit called Time Killer Ar.
Time Killer Ar units are blue Monsters with 2 to 4 moves and the Pass Time skill.
The final battles in Cairo, Amazon, and Morocco also include Monster Generals. They are immune to instant-kill moves and have Thunderstrike.
General Yisun
General Yisun is in Cairo.
He has:
- Battle Tactics III
- Status Cancel III
A Tactician can force him to waste turns by buffing your units and then using Status Cancel to remove his buffs.
Defeating General Yisun gives 5 SAT.
General Bepcho
General Bepcho is in Amazon and has the same abilities as Yisun.
Defeating Bepcho gives 1 SAT.
General Wispin
General Wispin is in Morocco. He is similar to the other Monster Generals but has Pass Time instead of Status Cancel III.
Defeating Wispin gives 1 SAT.
No Monster or Soul Binder Victim unit can be captured.
The Shimazu Ambush
In the Official History only, after the event where Monster units join the Monster Army has been seen, a Xavier turn event eventually occurs in which the four Shimazu brothers plan an ambush on Rance.
After this event, the brothers disappear from battles until the ambush occurs.
The ambush triggers immediately after Oda wins an army battle against the Monster Army that:
- Includes Rance.
- Does not include Kouhime.
- Occurs before the scene immediately following the defeat of General Yisun.
The battle that triggers the ambush is effectively erased. Its results, including post-battle effects, are forgotten. This includes:
- Removing dead commanders from your roster.
- A Game Over caused by Rance dying.
- Gold gained through Pillage.
- Territory that should have been conquered.
There are two unusual cases:
- If the conditions are satisfied during the battle against General Yisun, the ambush occurs afterward without the Shogun’s scene triggering. You will eventually have to fight General Yisun again.
- The ambush can only be planned in the Official History, but once planned it can trigger in the Archfiend route.
Fighting the Ambush
The ambush begins with an army battle against all four Shimazu brothers.
Before the battle:
- All units are healed to the troop counts they had at the beginning of the battle that triggered the ambush.
- All moves are restored.
- The battle takes place in a field.
- There is no Battlefield Adjustment, regardless of where the triggering battle occurred.
Losing the army battle causes a Game Over.
Reinforcement units from other Clans do not participate in either the army battle or the commander battle that follows.
Units, including Rance, cannot be captured or killed even if their troop counts are completely depleted.
A useful strategy is the Fiend Kentarou exploit. Place Kentarou alone in the front row. The only enemy unit capable of damaging your other units will then be Shimazu’s relatively weak Tactician, allowing your back row to win the battle with relatively little risk. However, the commander battle that follows should also be considered before relying on this strategy.
Afterward, you fight Yoshihisa Shimazu in a commander battle.
Yoshihisa has:
- Level: 42
- HP: 1158
He otherwise functions like a normal Ashigaru.
You cannot switch commanders into the fight, so you are limited to the commanders who started the army battle.
Losing this fight allows you to retry. Each retry reduces Yoshihisa’s level by 10, down to a minimum of level 20.
After winning, Yoshihisa dies and Oda enters Political Chaos, losing all remaining action fans.
If the ambush is triggered because the Monster Army attacked you, you can avoid losing your actions to this effect.
Deaths of the Remaining Shimazu Brothers
After the ambush, events allowing the remaining brothers to die become available.
- Toshihisa Shimazu dies if he participates in a battle that the Monster Army loses.
- After Toshihisa dies, Iehisa can die in the same way. His death scene changes if the Soul Binder’s curse has been lifted.
- After the other deaths, if the Soul Binder’s curse has been lifted and the second event where Stone Geezer is tormented by monsters has been seen, Kazuhisa dies in an end-of-turn event following the Monster Army’s normal end-of-turn events.
The remaining three brothers do not appear to rejoin the Monster Army’s army after the ambush. Instead, they can participate in specific battles.
If Oda fights the Monster Army in Amazon or Morocco in a territory with a harm value of zero, the following conditions determine which brothers appear:
- If Toshihisa’s death event has not occurred, Toshihisa and two Infected units appear in the Monster Army’s front row.
- If Toshihisa’s death event has occurred but neither Iehisa death event has occurred, Kazuhisa and a generic Samurai unit called Morocco king appear in the front row. Iehisa and a generic Onmyouji unit called Monaco king appear in the back row.
- The Morocco king unit has its maximum troop count increased by 500 twice. These increases do not affect its current troop count. The source indicates that one of these improvements was presumably intended for the Onmyouji.
Neither of these fights is affected by the harm value.
These fights are relatively difficult, and Morocco must be conquered to finish either the Official History or Archfiend route. Avoiding the ambush can therefore be preferable. The clear benefits of triggering it are that it is required for Agireda’s character clear and that these battles may be preferable to the alternatives offered by the Archfiend route.
Apostle Madou
After Stone Geezer has been released, a Xavier turn event occurs with Apostle Madou. After this event, Madou begins appearing in army battles.
Madou’s unit consists of Monster Mages with better stats. He also has the passive skill First Strike, which makes the game treat his starting Speed as 5 higher at the beginning of a battle.
Because of the normal random chance of approximately 8%, even if you field six characters who are faster in base stats than Madou, there is still approximately a 39% chance that one of them will move before Madou despite his First Strike.
Cairo and Xavier Event Timing
From inspection of the game’s code, in routes where the Monster Army appears except the Archfiend route, if Oda controls Cairo and the Soul Binder release event has not occurred, many Xavier turn events involving the Shimazu brothers, Monsters, and Infected units joining the Monster Army will occur sooner than they otherwise would.
This could potentially be used to delay other undesirable Xavier events.
For example, conquering Cairo can delay the event where Xavier conquers the Takeda Clan or prevent the Shimazu brothers’ five consecutive attacks.
Route-Specific Events After the Monster Army Appears
Official History: Kouhime
Two turns after the Monster Army appears, regardless of whether there is room, Kouhime joins as an Ashigaru.
If there is no room in the roster, the first non-important unit dies to make room.
If Kouhime’s unit is annihilated, the game ends in a Game Over.
Equipping Kouhime with the Immoral Immortal Charm prevents this.
True and Isoroku Routes: Hirami Lemons
Approximately four turns after the Monster Army appears, the supply of Hirami Lemons used to suppress Miki’s transformation into the Archfiend becomes insufficient.
You have under 6 turns to find the lemons. Failure causes Miki to become the Archfiend, resulting in a Game Over in First Games or entry into the Archfiend route in Second Games.
To find the lemons, complete 6 floors of the Underground Mikan Plantation in Mikan.
The purple command Search for hirami lemons at the same location appears to accomplish nothing.
Kentarou and Shikibu Duel
In the True and Isoroku routes, after completing the Hirami Lemon event, an event eventually occurs after taking Battleship Nagato, provided you still control it.
At the start of a turn, Shikibu duels Kentarou.
During the duel, Kentarou reveals that he has Youmeishu. Using it restores his HP to full and restores all of his moves.
Shikibu is always 3 levels lower than Kentarou. Her HP is set so that it takes five attacks to kill her. This forces you to either use Youmeishu or have previously given Kentarou a Skill Textbook 2.
Youmeishu is a self-targeted skill. Hover over Kentarou and select the skill manually.
It:
- Restores Kentarou’s HP to full.
- Restores all of his moves.
- Costs his turn.
- Is not used automatically.
If you win without using Youmeishu, you retain it for later use.
At some levels, Kentarou can win without Youmeishu if Attack Luck activates and provides its buff during the fight. This does not work at every level and is therefore less reliable than giving Kentarou a Skill Textbook 2.
Winning the duel is mandatory. Losing causes a Game Over.
After winning:
- Shikibu is killed.
- Kentarou becomes a Fiend.
- Miki runs away.
Searching for Miki
After Miki runs away, you must perform three searches to find her:
- 20 Search points
- 25 Search points
- 30 Search points
If Miki is not found after four end-of-turn events, she becomes the Archfiend. This causes a Game Over in First Games or sends you into the Archfiend route in Second Games.
You do not need to accumulate all required Search points before taking an action. As with other commands that require points, the required amount can be accumulated across multiple actions.
While Miki is missing:
- You cannot attack any Clan.
- You can defend normally.
- You can recover land in your own provinces.
- Operation Permits continue to work.
Fiend Kentarou
Fiend Kentarou has Invincibility Field.
In commander battles, only Xavier can damage him. In army battles, nothing can kill him.
If you fire all but one of his troops, or simply prevent his troop count from replenishing, Kentarou can automatically win defensive battles.
Fielding only Kentarou in an army battle also guarantees that he receives the +1 Relationship bonus from the battle.
What Happens After Finding Miki
Finding Miki removes all 0 Action Fans, so plan your actions accordingly.
The result depends on the route.
Official History
Sill becomes frozen.
As a result:
- Sill cannot be used in dungeons.
- Most events requiring Sill cannot occur.
- The SAT bonus Summon Forces From Foreign Nations can no longer be obtained.
- Incoming foreign reinforcements can still be accepted.
Approximately 3 to 4 turns after Sill freezes, Rance becomes irritated and loses 6 to 10 SAT. If you have less SAT than the event removes, all of your SAT is lost.
This repeats every 3 turns until:
- Two purple events titled
Frozen slave: Sillhave been seen. - The start-of-turn event where Kouhime slaps Rance has occurred.
The required purple Sill events do not appear to occur as start-of-turn events.
The third purple Sill event is not required to stop the SAT loss.
Isoroku Route
Isoroku agrees to stop participating in battles. The game treats this as if her unit had been dismissed.
The Attempt to Sink Nippon
In the Official History, after taking either one territory in South Africa or two territories in Morocco, the Monster Army attempts to sink Nippon.
You have 4 turns to stop this or the game ends in a Game Over.
To prevent it, attack the enemy forces at Tenma Bridge using the red command in Morocco.
You do not need to conquer every Monster Army province on the map. You only need to control every territory in Morocco.
When one turn remains, you can check the remaining time by pressing F5 on the world map.
If you also control a province adjacent to Morocco, a command called Stop Stone Geezer's growth becomes available in Morocco. This is Suzume’s Mission.
Using it delays the Game Over by one turn. It can be used repeatedly, effectively giving you unlimited time to prepare for the final battle.
Final Tenma Bridge Battle
In the Official History, once Morocco has been conquered, the red Attack Tenma Bridge command becomes available.
Selecting it:
- Marks every commander currently unavailable as available.
- Does not heal those commanders.
- Opens the team selection for the final battles.
- Does not allow Kouhime to participate in the Xavier fight.
- Marks commanders selected for the Xavier fight as unavailable.
You then fight two battles.
If Miki is missing, Kentarou stops the event and refunds the action fan.
First Battle
The first battle is an army battle against six generated Monster units.
They are not marked as important.
Their formation is always:
Front row
- 2 red Monsters
- 1 green Monster
Back row
- 1 Monster Mage
- 1 green Monster
- 1 blue Monster
Losing this battle returns you to the map and consumes the action.
It appears that none of your units, including Kouhime, can be killed in this battle.
Final Xavier Battle
The second battle is a commander battle using all of your commanders against:
| Enemy | Level | HP |
|---|---|---|
| Xavier | 98 | 2010 |
| Bodyguard | 25 | 250 |
| Toukichirou | 30 | 650 |
The battle works like the Xavier fight at Honnoji.
Rance or Kentarou must be present for Xavier to take damage.
Xavier is otherwise almost identical to the weaker version fought at Honnoji, with the main difference being his level and HP.
The Bodyguard functions like other Bodyguard units.
Toukichirou has a move that can target any enemy and reduce that enemy’s moves by 1.
Losing sends you to the Alice Mansion.
Winning finishes the route.
Conquering South Africa
There is generally no useful reason to conquer South Africa in the winnable routes where the Monster Army appears.
- In the Official History, conquering Morocco requires less effort and gives access to the end game.
- In the Isoroku route, reaching Battleship Nagato is sufficient to trigger the end game.
- In the Kenshin route, actions other than using Kenshin to trigger the end game are unnecessary.
The event after conquering South Africa depends on the route.
Official History: Apostle Madou
In the Official History, conquering South Africa leads to a battle against Apostle Madou.
Madou has two forms.
First form
- Level: 40
- HP: 850
- Standard attack
- Preparatory attack that hits all units, canceled with 3 shurikens
- Preparatory attack that fully heals Madou, canceled with 2 shurikens
Losing sends you to Alice’s Mansion.
Retrying the fight has the usual effect, including reducing Apostle Madou’s level by 10 in both forms, down to a minimum of level 20.
The second form appears to be otherwise unchanged.
If you lose during the second form, returning from Alice’s Mansion does not allow you to reselect your team and does not restore their moves. This can potentially cause an immediate loss.
After winning:
- The Soul Binder’s curse is lifted.
- All remaining action fans are lost.
The event Fiend's Daughter: Kurohime then becomes available both on the map and as a start-of-turn event.
It provides:
- +5 SAT from the first event.
- Another one-off event with the same name and mechanics that provides +2 SAT.
When triggered from the map, both events are Turn Restricted and can temporarily be blocked by certain other events, most commonly character-clear steps.
Isoroku Route
The result is otherwise the same as the Official History, but:
- The Apostle Madou battle does not occur.
Fiend's Daughter: Kurohimecannot trigger as a start-of-turn event.
The first Kurohime event changes depending on whether you have Kouhime, and some dialogue refers to events that do not occur in the Isoroku route.
Kenshin Route
Nothing happens after conquering South Africa.
The Soul Binder’s curse cannot be lifted.
The same appears to be true in the Archfiend route.
Operation Permit Restrictions
In the Official History only, using an Operation Permit to attack any Monster Army-controlled territory in the following provinces always fails:
- Battleship Nagato
- Cairo
- Morocco
- Amazon
When this happens, Kouhime confiscates all Operation Permits.
South Africa is not included in this restriction.
Automatic Monster Army Conquest Event
On Standard difficulty, also called 0 Star, the Official History has a scripted start-of-turn event that can automatically give Oda control of nearly all Monster Army provinces.
The event conquers every Monster Army province except the original Shimazu Clan provinces, which are the four bottom-left provinces in Africa.
All of your troops are also fully healed.
The requirements are:
- You are playing the Official History on Standard difficulty, such as a First Game.
- You have seen the start-of-turn event discussing Kouhime’s collapse at the coming-of-age ceremony.
- The Soul Binder release event must have been seen previously, because it is the only requirement for the coming-of-age event.
- You have not seen the Kentarou versus Apostle Shikibu event.
- The newly started turn has an odd number greater than 79.
- The Monster Army controls Battleship Nagato.
Clans controlled by neither Oda nor the Monster Army remain after this event. They can still be conquered by either side.
The event only gives you Monster Army provinces. It does not recover territories that the Monster Army previously captured from provinces originally owned by Oda.
Minimum Requirements to Defeat the Monster Army
In the Official History, the bare minimum requirements to beat the Monster Army and finish the game are to conquer Cairo and defeat Xavier.
Because attacking remains possible during the Hirami Lemon shortage, it is theoretically possible to finish the game before:
- Miki goes missing.
- Kentarou becomes a Fiend.
- Sill freezes.
This requires extremely aggressive play.
After the Monster Army takes Battleship Nagato, you effectively have until either receiving a Game Over or entering the Archfiend route because Miki did not receive the lemons in time.
During that period, you must:
- Conquer all 3 territories in Battleship Nagato.
- Conquer all 4 territories in Cairo.
- Conquer all 4 territories in Morocco.
- Spend a fan to initiate the Tenma Bridge attack.
Depending on when the lemon shortage occurs, time may not be the greatest difficulty. Winning the required battles is likely to be the larger challenge.
Losing even one battle during the Shimazu blitz can be a major setback, although Second Game bonuses can make this considerably easier.
Successfully completing this strategy allows you to fight Xavier while Sill is still available and can result in an extremely short Official History run. If you begin with 3 Action Fans and never lose a battle, the entire route can theoretically be completed in fewer than 50 turns, potentially much sooner.
This approach could also potentially save Ran’s life or allow you to fight Apostle Gigai while Ran is still alive.
Monster Army Sandbox Scenario
There is a variation of the aggressive strategy in which you conquer every Monster Army province but do not enter the Official History end game.
Instead, allow the Hirami Lemon shortage to force the Archfiend route.
If successful, Miki becomes the Archfiend, but the resulting game becomes effectively unwinnable and enters a sandbox-like state.
This happens for two main reasons:
- The Monster Army has no provinces, so the normal Archfiend route victory condition cannot be fulfilled.
- Because the Monster Army has no provinces, Miki cannot talk to Xavier, preventing the normal chain of Archfiend route events from starting.
Once in this state, the only plot event that occurs is the event entering the route. Events such as Kentarou leaving the Oda Clan do not occur, and Stone Geezer’s growth counter freezes.
Notable Commanders
Shikibu
Shikibu is an extremely powerful Samurai unit.
She cannot be captured and dies after her duel with Kentarou.
Agireda
Agireda is a fairly powerful Samurai unit who can be captured in battle in some routes.
Until the final battle of the Shimazu brothers’ five consecutive attacks begins, she is marked as an important unit. Consequently:
- She cannot be captured in the Ran or Monkeyslayer routes.
- She can be impossible to capture in the Kenshin route.
- Before the final battle of the five consecutive attacks, she cannot appear in battles in routes other than Ran or Monkeyslayer.
Agireda can only be character cleared after the Shimazu brothers’ ambush.
The ambush can only be planned in the Official History, although once planned it can also trigger in the Archfiend route. This allows Agireda to be cleared in either route.
Her troop count can be increased by 1000 using each of the two one-off colorless commands available after conquering territory in Cairo and Amazon.
The Amazon event requires the Cairo event to have been completed.
Sourin Otomo
Sourin Otomo is a 3 Speed Musketeer unit with the unique skill Finisher: Destroyer of Provinces.
The skill consumes all of his moves and deals 1x damage to every enemy unit. It can also be used from the back row.
Sourin is uncapturable.
He is only available to the player when playing as Shimazu in National Mode.
The Shimazu Brothers
The four Shimazu brothers are extremely powerful units.
In the Ran IF and Monkeyslayer routes, they surrender and are placed in prison after Kurohime is kidnapped. In all other routes, they are uncapturable.
They cannot be used by the Monster Army in battles until their respective portions of the five consecutive attacks have occurred.
Yoshihisa Shimazu
Yoshihisa is almost certainly the best Ashigaru in the game.
He has Counterattack 2, so attacking him can be dangerous even when the attack appears safe. His counterattack can deal massive damage.
Kazuhisa Shimazu
Kazuhisa is the best Samurai in the game by stats alone, although he lacks the strong skills necessary to make full use of those statistics.
Toshihisa Shimazu
Toshihisa is an extremely powerful Musketeer.
His large troop size and nearly perfect stats allow him to deal massive damage consistently.
He does not appear in battles during the Monkeyslayer route.
Iehisa Shimazu
Iehisa is the least distinctive of the four brothers. He is essentially a Tactician with very strong stats.
