Shadows of Doubt – Building Type Guide

A quick guide to the different building types available in Shadows of Doubt as they appear in the city generation editor.

In order to generate a city, some buildings are required. These are a city hall, a diner, a number of buildings containing apartments, and an office space such as the industrial tower.

There is a degree of random generation to the buildings in Shadows of Doubt, not just in name but in layout, so use the examples below as a general guide.

Buildings are listed in the order they appear in the city generation editors “tile edit” drop down menu.

Chemical Plant

Chemical Plants are a job location where citizens will go to work. As well as the industrial floor they contain a canteen for the workers to eat in.

Mixed Industrial

Much like the Chemical Plant, this is a location where citizens will go to work, however mixed industrial can include some shopfronts too.

Diner

A diner with a fenced in yard behind. At least one diner is necessary for city generation.

Town-House (Housing)

This is an apartment block with stairways to basement apartments in front. This building effectively functions as two apartment buildings put together, with two entrances out front which leads to the apartments on each side, though there is a shared floor further up that links the two sides together.

A certain amount of buildings which contain apartments are necessary for city generation.

Apartment Tower (Housing)

An apartment tower containing a number of living spaces arranged in T shaped corridors, and can contain shops, restaurants, and bars on the ground floor. Echelon apartments are located on the upper floors.

Apartment Tower (Housing)

An apartment tower containing a number of living spaces arranged around a central gallery, and can contain shops, restaurants, and bars on the ground floor. Echelon apartments are located on the upper floors.

City Hall

City hall, containing clinics, enforcer stations, detective item vendors, and the desk where case forms are received and deposited.

A city hall is necessary for city generation.

Fathoms (Housing)

A low-class apartment building containing ground floor and basement apartments, with a central courtyard containing a shanty town.

A certain amount of buildings which contain apartments are necessary for city generation.

Hotel

A hotel where short-term accommodation can be rented. Also contains a bar and vending machines.

Commercial Tower

A building containg apartments on the lower floors, with office spaces on the upper floors. The ground floor can also contain shops, bars, and restaurants. The rear staircase can sometimes confuse the route plotter pathfinding system.

At least one office space is necessary for city generation.

Park

A simple park.

Examples:

Town-House (Housing)
