Your Chronicle – Quick Guide to Envy

What’s Envy and What Should I Do With It?

Envy is a sin that’s unlocked after beating the 3rd guardian and buying the upgrade in the akashic records. Envy starts slowly, but has insane snowballing effects.

There are two main features with Envy…

Sin Drop Chance Multiplier:

  • Guardians will now drop sins, according to a multiplier based on the time spent in this reincarnation (1 day is 1x, 10 days is 10x, 1 month is 11x, 3 month is 12x, …) and your total exp (aka Base sin since it represents how much sin you would gain without any other multipliers when reincarnating).
    • The Hermit drops 1 sin, with a drop chance of 100% * sin drop chance multiplier
    • The Arbitrator drops 1.5 sins, with a drop chance of 20% * sin drop chance multiplier
    • The Creator drops 2 sins, with a drop chance of 16% * sin drop chance multiplier
    • The Dominator drops 2.5 sins, with a drop chance of 12% * sin drop chance multiplier

Envy Routines:

  • There are 3 “branches” in the envy routines, called strategy. Here is a brief explication of them: the first strategy, Body, will focus on your stats; the second strategy, Creativity, will focus on more on the “normal gameplay” aspect, if I may say; and the last strategy, Charisma, will focus more one drops and the use of resources.
  • Those routines, cannot be used at first. You need to buy levels for each routine with Complaints. Every sin that you gain that is above your limit will be transformed into complaints.
  • Once you have bought levels for a routine, it is now unlocked. However, it doesn’t do anything if not used: you need to put habits into the routine to power it. There’s a catch though, every routine level takes longer and longer to complete. The more envy levels you have into that said routine, the more you can power it. To have an idea of that, you can write it as so: Routine level ≃ Envy level * (2/3). That means that if you have 300 envy levels in one routine, you’ll be able to achieve ± 200 routine levels.
  • Each envy routines get softcapped after 100 routine levels (would be too OP otherwise). After which, the routines only adds 40% of the original value. So it’s still pretty useful to keep pushing throug the softcap, though it may be good at the beginning to reach the softcap with more routines, than trying to push one very far
  • Every DR, you can choose to change (or not) a strategy that will be boosted. Doing so will double the effects of every routines within the strategy, with no effects on the other strategy’s routines. That said, the boosted strategy won’t see a routine speed buff applied to it (although negligeable so don’t bother about that)

Envy Upgrades (Ruby shop):

You can buy upgrades in the ruby shop. These upgrades will add another multiplier that will boost different things (based on what upgrade is bought). This multiplier is based on the sum of all envy levels from all the routines you have. Here’s the advised order to buy such envy upgrades (do NOT buy those until you have bough every party slot first): Sin -> Familiar (pig man = more sin) -> Gluttony (more sin) -> Will (more research = more sin) -> SR -> Energy.

Quest refresh depends on when you get enough multiplier bonus, but definitely not before all Envy Levels are 500+ and possibly more like 700+.

“I just unlocked Envy and have no idea what to do, help!”

Fear not, for this guide has everything prepared! To get as much as possible from envy, you’ll need to gain a lot of complaints (sins). So because of that, the routines you should prioritize are Satiety (so gluttony’s and greed’s multiplier are higher -> more sins), Instant action (more food produced -> higher gluttony -> more sins) and Research drop (more research -> higher greed -> more sins). Of course, you don’t have to only buy those. Having some loop action and dungeon rewards will make your runs faster and less grindy, while SR, DR and HE will also help you (self-explanatory). If need be, you can also get some levels in Magical attack if you struggle against your enemies.

If you do quick runs, Instant, loop and dungeon will be your friends as it’ll greatly speed up the process, while if you tend to do longer runs (usually recommended as it’ll allow you to increase your envy faster), research drop and satiety will get more useful.

“But I’m not inexperienced, I just don’t know what’s the best way to strengthen my envy, help!”

Fear not, for this guide shall be complete, even at the cost of my sanity! The “ideal way” is to have roughly these ratios: ~3 satiety ~2 research ~1.6 instant action ~1.5 resource amount/exp at 20 exp sin multiplier, ~1.3 at 30.

This is assuming your envy multiplier is somewhere around 100%<x<600% or so. While not exactly the same for below and after such multiplier, it’s still a good measure to have. Do keep in mind that this is the “optimal way” to strengthen envy, but you can play it however you want. Also, at this point, you’ll also want to strengthen your quests rewards, as they’ll start to have a pretty big role in your stats.
