Deskrawl: Idle ARPG – Troubleshooting Guide

FAQ and Troubleshooting

Can’t connect to Steam

If Deskrawl cannot connect to Steam:

  1. Open Steam and select Steam → Check for Steam Client Updates.
  2. Install any available Steam client updates.
  3. Restart Steam, make sure you are signed in and online, then launch Deskrawl from your Steam Library.

Failed to load il2cpp

If Windows Smart App Control is blocking the game, you can try disabling Smart App Control:

  1. Open Windows Security → App & browser control → Smart App Control settings.
  2. Select Off.
  3. Launch Deskrawl again.

Disabling Smart App Control disables a Windows security feature. Use this workaround only if Smart App Control is blocking your trusted Steam installation, and read Windows’ warning before confirming.

Crash mentioning a D3D12 DLL

If Deskrawl crashes with an error mentioning a D3D12 DLL:

  1. Close Deskrawl.
  2. In your Steam Library, right-click Deskrawl → Manage → Browse local files.
  3. Rename the D3D12 folder to D3D12_bak.
  4. In Steam, open Deskrawl → Properties → General → Launch Options.
  5. Enter -force-d3d11 in the Launch Options field.
  6. Launch Deskrawl.

Use one leading hyphen in -force-d3d11. This makes the game use DirectX 11.

Launch crashes after installing NVIDIA driver 617.14

If crashes began after installing NVIDIA driver 617.14, try returning to your previously working driver:

  1. Open Device Manager → Display adapters.
  2. Right-click your NVIDIA graphics card → Properties → Driver → Roll Back Driver.
  3. Follow the prompts, then restart your PC.
  4. Launch Deskrawl again.

If Roll Back Driver is unavailable, download and reinstall your previously working driver from NVIDIA’s official website.
