Total War: Warhammer II – Brief Description of Each Faction

This guide will give you a brief description of each faction from both Warhammer I and Warhammer II.

The Empire

Strengths

  • Flexible unit roster that has a tool for nearly every situation 
  • Powerful Artillery options 
  • Access to 6 lores of magic (7 if you count Balthasar Gelt) 
  • Defensive focused, but can go aggressive if needed 

Weaknesses

  • Lacks any defining Strengths 
  • Very few Monstrous units 
  • Lack of psychological damage (fear and terror) 

Dwarfs

Strengths

  • Extremely durable Infantry, with high armour and melee defense values 
  • Powerful Artillery and Missle Infantry options 
  • Poweful support and melee focused Lords 
  • Innate racial magic resistance 
  • High leadership 

Weaknesses

  • Most units have extremely low speed values 
  • Vunerable to Cavalry, Chariots, and (ironically) Artillery 
  • No access to any of the Lores of Magic 

Greenskins

Strengths

  • Diverse unit roster 
  • Very aggressive, but can be defensive when needed 
  • Excel at pummeling front lines into powder 
  • Strong magic buffs 
  • Superior numbers 

Weaknesses

  • Rather low Leadership 
  • Army is dependent on the Lord’s survival 

Vampire Counts

Strengths

  • Powerful Lords and Heroes 
  • Units will never rout 
  • Every unit in their roster causes fear (and sometimes terror as well) 
  • Powerful selection of magic 
  • Wide array of fast Monsters, including several flying units 
  • Aggressive unit roster 

Weaknesses

  • Relatively slow Infantry 
  • Units take additional damage when leadership breaks 
  • Army is dependent on the Lord’s survival 
  • Monsters are relatively squishy 
  • NO MISSLE OPTIONS

Chaos Warriors

Strengths

  • Only one Artillery unit, but can be manually shot for devestating damage 
  • Wide selection of highly armoured Infantry, Cavalry, and Monsters 
  • Wide variety of elite units that can cause devestating damage if kept alive 
  • Aggressive unit roster 

Weaknesses

  • Access to only one, very expensive artillery unit that is suceptible to other Artillery 
  • Very expensive unit roster 
  • Armies tend to be smaller due to high unit costs 
  • Monsters are fast, but Infantry is rather slow 
  • Lack of effective missle options

Beastmen

Strengths

  • Powerful Lords and Heroes 
  • Powerful Monsters 
  • Immunity to Psychology while Leadership is up 
  • Very fast and aggressive unit roster (Seriously, these guys are quicker than they look. Don’t underestimate them.) 

Weaknesses

  • Lightly armoured unit roster 
  • Rather lackluster leadership 
  • Army is dependent on the Lord’s survival 

Wood Elves

Strengths

  • Most diverse and poweful roster of Missle Infantry and Missle Cavalry in the game 
  • Fast Infantry and Cavalry with high melee values 
  • Very durable Monsters 
  • Powerful Lord abilities 
  • High Leadership 

Weaknesses

  • Infantry and Cavalry have low health and armour 
  • Monsters are susceptible to fire damage 
  • Elf Lords are relatively weak in melee

Bretonnia

Strengths

  • Powerful Cavalry options, including Shock, Melee, Missle, and even Flying 
  • Decent Artillery (but don’t expect much) 
  • Can make front line much more durable through the Grail Relique (grants bonus leadership and immunity to psychology) 
  • Fairly diverse set of Missle Infantry 

Weaknesses

  • Rather poor peasant (ha) infantry that can do little more than hold the line and serve as an anvil

Norsca

IMPORTANT NOTICE: At the current state of Warhammer 2, Norsca has not yet been overhauled into its Warhammer 1 version.

Strengths

  • Powerful anti large options
  • Extremely aggressive
  • Infantry get stronger the longer they fight
  • Monster roster is incredibly diverse and has a tool for nearly every situation

Weaknesses

  • No Artillery
  • Infantry is mostly lightly armoured
  • No Melee or Shock Cavalry

High Elves

Strengths

  • Flexible unit roster with a wide variety of tools
  • Highly defensive unit roster
  • Air superiority due to Dragons and Phoenixes
  • Bonus melee statistics while health is high 
  • High Leadership

Weaknesses

  • Elites are very expensive
  • Armies tend to be smaller due to high unit costs
  • Melee statistics drop at low health

Lizardmen

Strengths

  • Monster heavy unit roster, all of which are heavily armoured 
  • Powerful Lords 
  • Fairly strong Leadership
  • Very durable units

Weaknesses

  • Units can be prone to rampaging
  • Susceptible to anti large damage

Dark Elves

Strengths

  • Flexible unit roster with a wide variety of tools
  • High aggressive
  • All Dark Elf units recieve a massive stat buff for a limited time upon reaching a certain number of kills
  • High Leadership

Weaknesses

  • Elites are very expensive
  • Armies tend to be smaller due to high unit costs
  • Dark Elf units are relatively weak until Murderous Prowess is activated

Skaven

Strengths

  • Very low unit costs
  • Large variety of sneaky Skirmisher Infantry
  • Overwhelming numbers
  • Units rout easily but regroup very quickly if left unnattended
  • Powerful Artillery and Missle Infantry options 
  • Debuffs focus on bringing enemies down to size

Weaknesses

  • Very vunerable to psychological damage (Fear and Terror) 
  • Low Leadership 
  • Lightly armoured Infantry and Monsters
  • No Cavalry
  • Army is dependent on the Lord’s survival
