Difficulty 6-7 and Up Tips
Сrеdit gоеs to WhiteCrow!
At a certain point, the difficulty of the game no longer depends upon your loadout. You can bring all the right weapons, use them well and still have a bad time. You need cohesion and pick your battles sparingly. You can trap yourself in a loop of bug breaches and bot drops if you over-aggro and don’t kill quickly enough.
Learn to peel. You’ll eventually start doing it without thinking, but if you’re not doing it right now start thinking about it. If things are looking hairy and the firepower you’re laying down isn’t thinning what’s coming at you, peel and either increase the gap or get better ground. Don’t wait on doing it.
Conversely, if you’re not shooting, then shoot. I see a lot of people get stuck in a habit of running and positioning with things chasing them. The only time that should happen is if you’re out of ammo. If there’s 8 little bugs chasing you, don’t run, shoot. Takes a few seconds to clear them. Even shooting some slightly bigger things can knock them back or momentarily stun them.

It’s always better to drop further away from an objective than to drop closer in an infested area. You’re extremely vulnerable on the first drop since it takes time to drop additional weapons and supplies. You can snowball into a bad time and waste a lot of reinforcements right in the beginning if you’re swamped without the tools to get you out. This can hurt morale too.
Mines are dangerous due to friendly fire, but there’s almost nothing better for covering a retreat. Let people catch up to you or get ahead of you before dropping it. Smoke Eagle/orbital is amazing against bots. EMS (EMP) is great on bugs AND bots. It’ll lock a bunch down to give you breathing room.
Shoot the mushroom. If you don’t like the fog when fighting bugs, look for a tall mushroom like structure in their nest areas. 2 grenade launcher rounds or 1 EAT will destroy it. You’ll even get EXP and some funds for doing it, and even better, a clear area you can see in.
Be careful when marking enemies. If you’re playing with randoms, your intention with marking may just be to point them out so people are aware and to avoid them, but … some people will see that target icon and decide to shoot them. This can spoil a high difficulty run by causing bug breaches and bot drops.
