Persona 4 Golden – How to Get P-Rank

It’s pretty hard, but here’s how to P-rank a dungeon in Persona 4 Golden.

Tips to Get P-Rank

All credit goes to Nitekap!

First, you must fight the first shadow you see on the first floor. If you go to the next floor or skip it otherwise your run is forfeit.

Next, you must get a Shuffle Time after every battle. This is the trickiest part, but make sure you beat the first shadow with an All-Out Attack, which guarantees a Shuffle Time. Try to get a Sweep Bonus, which guarantees subsequent Shuffle Times, and keep the Sweep Bonus going. Don’t panic if you fail to get a Sweep Bonus though! Just make sure to get a Shuffle Time after every battle and you’ll keep the chain going.

After making it to the top floor and fighting the boss, a portal opens up that leads back to the entrance. Provided that you have done everything correctly the interface will turn purple, signifying that your run has the potential to become P-rank.

Now you must go through the dungeon and fight the boss at the top again, while keeping your Shuffle Time streak going. During this “Lap 2”, the Reaper will spawn upon entering a floor like in Persona 3 and 5, and start hunting you down. Avoiding this fight is pretty much necessary, as you can’t get Shuffle Time from beating him.

After successfully getting the P-rank, Teddie or Rise (depending on who’s the navigator at the moment) will be awestruck and comment on your achievement. Rise will also simp for you harder for every dungeon you P-rank.

After P-ranking every dungeon and beating the game, saving your cleared file will make it appear purple in the save menu unlike the usual cherry blossom pink. Starting a new game + with this file unlocks special social links, like Peppino Spaghetti, who you can visit in his pizzeria by taking the bus on rainy Sundays. Maxing his social link enables you to fuse The Noise, a fairly powerful persona.

There’s also the super secret hidden boss fight against Pizza Head which you can attempt after beating Izanami. For difficulty I’d say he’s harder than Margaret but easier than Elizabeth in Persona 3.

A couple of tips for P-ranking:

  1. Again, Sweep Bonuses are not needed. It’s getting Shuffle Time that matters. If you miss a sweep, take a deep breath and make sure to beat your next shadow with an All-Out Attack.
  2. You don’t have to fight every shadow you see! P-rank only cares about your Shuffle Time streak. After beating the first shadow it’s generally best to avoid fights unless absolutely necessary.

Hope this was helpful, and good luck!
