HELLDIVERS 2 – How to Manage Mid-Level Evacuation Missions

A brief guide to help you manage the evacuation missions better.

Mid-Level Evacuation Missions Management Guide

What causes the evacuation missions to be tough and annoying?

From my experiences, the evacuation missions are annoying because you get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of bot forces. One or two bots thrown at you? No biggie, but once you get put on your back foot, things will go south real soon because you are busy fighting and surviving, not doing the objective, which is to evacuate the survivors.

What are the keys to success?

Twofold:

  1. Take out the bots quickly
  2. Evacuate the people quickly

This requires tight teamwork.

How to do that?

To take out bots, the fastest way is to take out their dropships. When a dropship get taken out, the bots they carry and the bots under the dropship will instantly get killed.

Before you start, divide the team into two:

  1. The AA team / dropship watch / MANPAD, have one or two people doing this. One can be enough but two might be better.
  2. The evac team will be the rest of the crew

For the AA team, these people should bring recoiless rifles/disposable anti-tank. Once dropped into the map, find a good vantage point where you can see the skies above clearly without obstruction. Use these warheads to aim specifically at the dropships engines (the blocky things on the four corners). A well aimed shot at the engine blocks will instantly kill said dropship, killing everything onboard. Your backpack should come with a few warheads, but it will likely not be enough, which is why you need the disposable anti-tank rockets. These are your secondary weapons when you are waiting for resupply and whatnot.

The evac team should take note of where the exits are. While the AA team are doing their duty, the evac team should run around, killing bot stragglers and evacuating people. The faster it is done, the better. This team’s members should either be running to an exit that might be available or pressing the evacuate button.

What to bring and what not to bring?

What to bring:

  • For the dropship watch people, you need at least recoilless rifle/disposable AT. I usually run with autocannon turrets and mortar turrets since these two turrets friendly-fire less but I think rocket sentries would work too (haven’t unlocked these myself yet).
  • For the evac team, I’d suggest bringing disposable AT and anti-material rifle. The former to help take out targets of opportunity that the dropship watch people missed and the latter to take out straggler heavies.

What NOT to bring:

  • Any kind of landmines, especially do not place them on the path of the evacuees.
  • Gatling sentries and machine gun sentries. The evacuees will run into the line of fire and instantly get killed, causing you to lose money.

Conclusion

This is not the only way to play. This game is meant to be fun, you can play however you want. I am sure there are people out there with better solutions than mine.

  1. Hey some advice to keep the use of the recoiless rifle going, is to have the shooter carry a supply backpack to keep the warheads in order, effectively increasing the total war heads by significant amount, the downside is that it requires two people

  2. Thank you for the strat, will have to try it next time. Even on medium, we were getting swarmed 3-4 minutes in. Found the mortar to be good at clearing bots immediately on drop, but that only lasts so long. Another strat might be to stagger mortar turret drops for that reason.
