Maze Collaboration Guide
This guide provides general tips for Rookie Maze Runners and explains what to expect from the monthly collaboration thread. It assumes you already understand the basic Maze mechanics.
The Collaboration Thread and Maze Tracker
Each Maze has its own collaboration thread where players share information about that specific Maze. The thread can include:
- Efficient paths through the Maze
- Boss strategies
- Other useful tips
Some players also use an external tracking tool to map areas beyond the fog of war. This allows players who explore first to share their discoveries with others through screenshots and tracker information.
The tracker website is not officially supported by LG staff, Discord staff, or Discord moderators. If you choose to use it as a reference, review the relevant guidance from the LG staff and Discord moderation team.

What Every Maze Has in Common
There have been five Mazes as of this guide’s writing. The development team slightly rebalances the map, rewards, enemy difficulty, and optimal pathing between Mazes.
Because of these changes, specific strategies can become outdated. The Maze is an evolving system, so the collaboration thread for the current Maze should be used for specific information.
Storyline and the Unique Skin
Completing the Main Storyline does not reward you with the Unique Skin for the featured Merc. The game does not make this distinction explicit.
F2P players cannot obtain the Unique Skin. The Mega-boss that drops the skin is balanced to require monetary investment and usually requires approximately Level 20.
The Main Storyline itself is balanced so that F2P players can complete it. Its rewards are still worthwhile even if you do not intend to spend.
Primary Objective: Complete the Storyline
Regardless of whether you are F2P or a heavy spender, your first objective should be to complete the Main Storyline.
If you are struggling with a boss, you can backtrack and collect additional XP before trying again.
Use the Quest Path Finder
Always use the Quest Path Finder by selecting its icon in the quest menu. It provides the most optimal path to each objective, and there is rarely a reason to deviate from it.
The Path Finder also works for:
- Bosses
- XP Cards
- Holograms

If You Are Struggling With the Storyline
Every player receives the same Commander and eight-Merc squad for the Maze. Your squad from the main game has zero impact on the power of this Maze squad, so everyone is on an even playing field.
Each Maze squad is designed around a particular strategy. If you are having difficulty progressing through the Main Storyline, you may not have identified the intended strategy for that Maze.
For example, the Alisha and Skye Maze required a very different approach from anything you would normally try in the main game.
It focused on being defensive and using Commander Alisha’s final ability for the killing blow on enemy Commanders. The fight was intentionally slow. Commander Alisha needed to take small amounts of damage to power up her final skill.
Trying to simply attack the enemy Commander would result in failure.
The Charlotte and Wendy Merc combination on the same line was a key strategy for defeating bosses that should have been too strong for the squad.
Ask the collaboration thread for advice about the unique strategy for each Maze.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Do Not Buy VIP
Do not buy VIP unless you are intentionally making the level of investment described in the source. VIP cannot be used to clear the Maze without also buying all of the detonators.
VIP grants zero XP, so it does not help you attain the Unique Skin.
The guide describes VIP as an option for true whales only.
Save Your Detonator
Do not use your Detonator immediately. The collaboration thread will have advice about where it is most efficient to use.
Typically, you do not want to use it until the final stretch in the Yellow Zone.
Do Not Rush Exploration
Let other players scout ahead first. There is no need to rush if you are not at your energy cap.
Do Not Blindly Pursue Hologram Quests
Do not pursue a Hologram Quest blindly simply because you found one of the five Holograms.
The final Hologram might be 4,000 energy away from your current position. Consider whether pursuing the objective is practical before committing to it.

The Final Bosses
The Storyline boss and the Mega-boss can have significantly different power requirements.
In the example given:
- Storyline Skye was doable at Level 12.
- Mega-Skye was easily defeated at Level 20.
- Some players developed strategies that worked with squads as low as Level 17.
After Completing the Storyline
Once you have completed the Storyline, you have two main options:
- Attempt the Mega-boss for the Unique Skin.
- Complete Hologram sidequests.
Attempting the Mega-boss
In general, a squad at Level 20 is enough to defeat the Mega-boss and unlock the Unique Skin.
If you think you can reach Level 17, check the collaboration thread to see whether a strategy has been shared for lower-level squads.
Hologram Sidequests
Usually, three Holograms are attainable, although a particular player may not be able to complete all three. The remaining Holograms require spending.
Before choosing a Hologram Quest, consider whether you can complete it.
The Wayfinder can help show you where the closest Hologram is.
Preview Hologram Rewards
Click the Chest icon next to the quest to preview its rewards before choosing a Hologram Quest.
The “Ivy” icon indicates that you will unlock a short video of approximately five seconds with additional story content.
The Ivy icon has nothing to do with the Ivy Skin. The clip you receive will very likely not feature the Merc for whom you collected the Holograms.
