Alliance Wars Guide
This guide is intended for alliance officers and leaders. It provides general recommendations for war map strategies, map placement, and leaderboard mechanics.
War Map Strategies
Matchmaking and troop power
War map matchmaking takes place 15 minutes before the war starts. Change your troop power to the desired number before matchmaking begins.
War map matchmaking is based purely on troop power. At the start of each week, a global table of all alliances and their matching power is calculated and sorted by that power.
Matching power is the greater of:
- Current total alliance power
- 85% of the previous week’s matching power
Map placement is then determined by the resulting ranking:
- Alliances ranked 1 to 20 are placed into two T1 maps.
- The next 1.5% of alliances are placed into T2 maps.
- The next 12% of alliances are placed into T3 maps.
- The source does not specify the percentages for the remaining tiers.
It is possible to manipulate troop power so that an alliance can be placed on the same map as an ally, but the numbers must be extremely close together.
Entry points
Entry points on the T2 map are static and are defined by each alliance’s color.
Entry points are only available to alliances that have no tile on the map.
If an enemy alliance has no tiles and attacks your tiles, keep that alliance off the map if possible. If you allow it to enter, it may establish a defensive position and/or spread to neighboring tiles because it may perceive your alliance as weak.
Territory control
Prioritize inner tiles because they provide more rewards and have no off-map attacks. Try to have as few exposed edges as possible.
There is no need to defend every tile. Trade tiles and use riots to your advantage.
The objective is to get more value from your troops than the enemy does. Avoid losing fights or taking too few tiles, as enemy alliances may interpret this as weakness and decide to attack you.
Managing multiple alliances
An alliance with a large amount of land can benefit when other alliances fight for smaller areas outside that territory. In this situation, the larger alliance can retain substantial territory while the other alliances spend resources fighting over the remaining areas.
However, if several other alliances attack the larger alliance at the same time, the situation can become a major disadvantage for it.
Use this dynamic when planning attacks. Avoid committing your resources to minor territory while allowing another alliance to retain a large amount of land without having to spend resources defending it.
Betrayal
Always expect betrayal. While it will not happen most of the time, it remains a possibility, especially in 18/18.
War Map Placements and Leaderboards
Official leaderboard information
The Global leaderboard is described as being determined by:
- Deployed troop numbers
- Captured sectors
- Landmarks
These factors do not use troop power directly.
However, a June 2026 update stated that only deployed troop numbers count for the Global leaderboard. The source therefore contains conflicting information, and the exact calculation cannot be resolved from the available information.
The other leaderboards use the following criteria:
| Leaderboard | Ranking criterion |
|---|---|
| Daily | Captured sectors for the current day |
| Weekly | Influence from captured sectors |
| Seasonal | Influence from captured sectors |
For the Daily leaderboard, if two alliances have the same number of captured sectors, the alliance’s total troop power is compared.
The Seasonal leaderboard covers a 12-week season.

War Map Placement
At the start of each week, a global table of all alliances and their matching power is calculated and sorted by matching power.
Matching power is calculated by taking the greater number of:
- Current total alliance power
- 85% of the alliance’s matching power from the previous week
The resulting ranking determines war map placement:
- Alliances ranked 1 to 20 enter two T1 maps.
- The next 1.5% of alliances enter T2 maps.
- The next 12% enter T3 maps.
- The source does not specify the percentages for the remaining tiers.
War map matchmaking happens purely according to troop power. Matchmaking occurs 15 minutes before the war starts, so troop power should be changed to the desired value before that point.
It is possible to manipulate troop power to place an alliance on the same map as an ally, but the matching numbers must be extremely close together.
