Mindbender Boss Guide
By Kaho.
I’ve been struggling a bit with the Mindbender boss, but just managed to defeat it without retiring once. So for anyone struggling here is the strat i used. (Let it be known that if you retire before hand its 100000% easier… I think. Idk I never retired). Everything below will be in the spirit of having none of the bonus you’d receive from retirement. I should also mention that my primary element is Earth.
Set Up
The Build:
For this run you will need to have 2 sets of gear and all Elements at a rough study level of 22, mainly cause you will need the spells. True Strike (Mind), Stream of Healing (Water), and Blur (Wind).
These on top of other spells like Splash/Frost, and Droplet of healing are required to make this fight at all possible. My exact wizards are listed below.
Toggled on and off throughout the fight.
- Splash
- True Strike
Always On *with exceptions
- Sting – Always on (this can be turned off if you need a bit more mana generation during Glow attacks, but id try to keep it active as best you can)
- Droplet of healing
- Imbue Flames
- Earth Shield
- Eagle Eye
- Hate
- Strength
- Longevity
- Stoneskin
- Enchant Mana Steamers
- Enchant Mana Spouts
Manual Spells
- Guard
- Stream of Healing
- Blur
This build does have a notable lack of a number of damaging spells such as Fireball, Stone Strike, or other spells in that area. But to be honest there was just no room for them as I attempted to make it a battle of attrition rather than a DPS Nuke. Its arguable that if you use more damage spells then you wont lose as many potions in the beginning half of the fight or middle phase. But it was just a risk I couldn’t have taken given my limited mana pool. I was often swapping out Splash and True Strike. While both have the same P mana cost and Wet doesn’t do anything to the Boss as ideal you would have Soak to wet yourself and lower the fire damage. I swapped between them due to their Cast times. True Strike is faster in terms of rapid attacking and Splash of course being slower.
In terms of damage, sticking to true strike is 100% the better choice, but I found it gave me slightly more breathing room during the second phase and let me think a bit more. This is a personal thing. If you are confident then stick to true strike and just beat it up. But I attempted to drag out the Fire Spirit Phase as long as i could to have the max amount of mana I could when going into the last phase.
Gear:
My inventory consisted of 5 healing potions, a Potion of Vitality, and a Potion of Muscle.
For individual equip items there are 2 sets.
- Set 1: Serrated Blade/Evasive Garb/Cloak of Darkness – This is the dodge build that is required for the half way point of the fight.
- Set 2: Silver Mace, Silver Chest Plate, Silver Shield – This is the tank build, intended for the beginning and last half of the fight.
The Mana Event:
This event is near 100% required when fighting this guy, between the Glow attack reducing it too 0 and the shear spam clicking you will have to do to keep passive attacks and buffs up is utterly ridiculous. In between his Glow attacks you would like to try and avoid using as many potions as possible, ideally should you be given the chance you want to get off a single Stream of Healing spell before the next glow. RNG is heavily dependent here as he could just as easily spam the attacks over and over before you get a chance to get it off. But Mana Mana Mana.
There are smaller things like having a decent Synchro, having all the events you can have as well as all Enhancements up until this point. But these are the major points that got me though this fight.
The Fight
This fight is micro managing the boss fight. With such limited recourses and skills it comes down to skill and a hefty bit of luck.
Phase 1: You will be starting in the Heavy Armor Set, with True Strike active as your main attack skill.
In Phase one he will either open with a Glow attack or attack about 2-5 times before the glow attack. Ideally you get the latter half and get some nice spells in. But the second he glows you will want to be hitting you mana like there is no tomorrow. In this phase you want to waste as few potions as possible to stay alive, at worst I would attempt to simply use only 4 – 6 in the first phase, this leaves you with enough potions at that point to have a “Oh shit” button in the “Auto use Pouch” button. If you see yourself getting low and dont think you can heal in time, then flick the Auto Use on and off. This is sure to give you a full health bar but will take up half to all your stock of potions, the goal is survive until the Phase 2 Transition at about 4k boss health. If you have the ability then make sure that you only use potions at 30% – 40% as not to waste them or have to manually click them (This takes away from mana generation). After a Glow you will want to be pushing for a Stream of Healing or some other defensive option, as while it can be super unlikely (He tends to cast Glow once you hit nearly half your mana pool), with the mana buff event you should just barely make it and get one off before the glow hits. This will set you up wonderfully for the second phase. Hopefully you simply have done enough damage too have pushed him into a second phase. This entire first phase is just hopeful luck on his attacks not just ruining your health bar.
Phase 2: The second you see the boss casting Summon Flame Spirit, Swap to the Dodge set, and replace True Strike with Splash in your permanent spells.
Phase two has the fire spirit. She does considerable damage but can be dodged much easier then the Mindbender as she doesn’t use True Strike or other abilities with enhanced Accuracy. Attempt to use 0 potions at all during this phase, should you get a good number of dodges and misses from her fireball’s and Sear then you should get by just fine with healing spells or the occasional Stream of Healing. Blur is a broken broken spell at this portion of the fight, but without giving up a number of other spells (Which you can consider if you are 100% confident in your luck) isnt worth setting as a P spell, due to its insane mana drain. I found that should i ever get near half health or below, i would manually place Blur on my self and then work my mana back up to get a Stream of Healing. If possible id be able to do both due to some fantastic Accuracy luck. As i said before this fight is a perfect time to drag things out and breath. Since she is much more unlikely to hit you, you have much more room to replenish mana and take a second to figure out your plan of attack as well as re-evaluate your item and spells. Just be aware of her heavy hitting attacks and have a Guard on standby incase you dont dodge.
Phase 3: Back to heavy armor and True Strike.
This is the same as Phase one with a few twists and turns. He will begin to apply haste on himself as well as other buffs. He doesnt seem to use Glow anymore but this might have simply been blind luck on my part. This is when its a change of pace from phase one. Feel free to use your Healing Potions as you see fit. This is the last burn of damage you wanna make. If you are feeling good about your position and potions then id reccomend turning on some secondary or even third attack spells. This can ruin your mana pool but thats the hail marry you are going for should you choose to turn on spells like stone strike or Fireball. At this point i cant give many more tips other then attack like you never have before, or draw him out and survive until you are the last one standing.
Best of luck in your runs! I apologize if this is scrambled.
These are my stats as of typing all of this. This is about a day after my kill so some things are slightly inflated such as my time and study levels. Each one was about 23 ish. Poison was 15, and Mind was at 13. Earth was at a strong 27 at the time of my fight. (I tend to log off for a day, then on returning spend all my time pieces on Study XP).
Due to a number of Upgrades since the Victory i dont have a accuratre recounting of my Mana pools so with a rough Esstimate. I was running a Mana Pool of about 3900, with a spending and recharge rate (With the mana pool buff) of 457/387 rate.
My Furniture was based around having as many Steamers as possible (17), and pouring all my Poison into them to push my Mana Recharge as high as i could for my limited resources. I did not have any wizards on Poison Generation and was working against the resource drain of my 120k Poison reserves. This gave me on average 2 runs before I would have to swap back to Element Generation Sets and Wizards.
Once again these Furnitures will be slightly inflated due to me making progress after the kill. My Mana Spouts have increased by about 3, and other buildings as well.
Here is also the Synchro i used for the fight.
If anyone has questions about anything do Ask! This was just a jumbled together post about my experience with the fight and what I did to get though it. I joined originally to find anyone possibly giving guides to this exact Challenge I am going for and found only a few bits and pieces I could use in my own run. But it was stiches together by me, if anyone finds anything that could have been optomized or changed then do let me know! I might make more Guides about these fights later on. Mainly just cause I like to keep a personal achievement record in some way, and hopefully that info can help others.
I hope you found this helpful!
