Northgard – Dances with Wolves Achivement Guide

How to get the achievement Dances with wolves.

How We Did It: Game Type

This was done in Multiplayer with 2 players and 2 bots.

Start a game with a Only domination victory on normal difficulty. We did a 2v2 on a Northgard map with both bots as the Clan of the kraken.

I would like to note that I believe it would be safe to assume it would be less of a grind doing a larger map on a harder difficulty, as even though im not Sure it makes a differences I felt like i noticed a faster spawn speed from normal compared to easy.

Game Start

At the start build a scouting camp and focus on basically exploring as much as you can. Ideally you would like to come across the wolf dens as early and as close to your base as possible, If the dens spawn close to the enemy, there becomes the high chance that they will take the land permanently destroying the dens.

We restarted once about 10 minutes in on our first try due to two dens spawning next to enemy territories, and on the second run they were not much better but we managed to get there before they had a war-band big enough to take the tile. They did attack the tile but not colonise it in our run so be careful to to restart too soon.

Scouting

When it comes to the timing of the scouting it depends on your RNG, and how confident you are on “protecting” the wolf den tiles. For instance, As soon as i found a giant camp, i sent one of my scouts to lesion with them which gave me the lead in relations, and eventually with support of trading a giant early on.

With 2 players it becomes much easier as one player can scout the map and and the other can send scouts to the Giants or Dwarfs to help get those support units as early as possible.

After myself having adjacent tiles to one wolf den, and my teammate “protecting” the other, I was able to take out one of the bots that was only 2 tiles out, and from there basically colonising the map and pushing the other enemy back to 1 tile.

TL,DR / Farming

From here on it was just farming when they spawned, i tried a bunch of different methods such as leaving towers in adjacent zones, and not colonising adjacent zones but the best method I found was:

  • Take all zones around the Dens,
  • Keep Any War-band at least 2 tiles away or 1 in between
  • Run in and kill them as soon as they spawn.
  • Killing 67 wolfs

Even if you cant access the tile but you are adjacent with your war-band, That Den seemed to still spawn a lot slower.

Spawn Rate

I’ve had a quick google and could not find the spawn rates of the wolfs but it felt like they spawned much slower when there were buildings and or workers in the adjacent zones, and the fastest when there were no buildings on colonised lands next the them.

I tried a little farming while I was afk , where i left and came back for roughly 10 – 15min and some wolfs had invaded almost all surrounding tiles but the den was not full back to 3 wolfs.

I have tried farming non den tiles as i have noticed in other games that if there are 3 wolfs on a stone or Ruins tile, however the spawn rate on those was extremely slow compared to the method above

Notes

I guess the whole reason why im writing this up is because i couldn’t find any guides on how to do this, and just a lot of people saying how its a long grind, and after trying it i hope it helps anyone trying to get it. ironically writing this guide has taken me longer the actually getting the achievement. I do apologise if it is terrible as this is the first guide.

The game i got the achievement, in took a couple of hours or roughly around year 8-10 in game, I would like to point out that with my teammate we maximised the “farming” buy the one going for the achievement basically killing all or as many wolfs as possible from the start, like clearing tiles and attacking invading wolfs. For me it Mentally helped by keeping a tally out of the 67 but along the way i miscounted anyway.

I would like to mention that i found a lot of stuff online saying achievements cant be unlocked with custom maps, so i didn’t bother trying, however because i did not take any screen shots while i was playing I just made a custom map to grab a screen shots.

I also read about a lot of people commenting on how the achievement bugs out, or does not work if you save and restart the game, so we just did it in one play though, and on that note i don’t think you can save a multiplayer game anyway.

In hindsight as im writing this up now I realised I will be trying to get it all over again for my Partner, and Ill update it if i find out any more efficient ways of achieving it.

  1. Or you could just farm the wolves on Rig’s Saga mission 5 “Punitive Expedition”.

-Never colonize the wolf dens and kill wolves when they appear on the wolf dens.

-Survive the mercenary attack from Hagen. After that, you can play the map for as long as you like. As far as I know, Hagen never sends a second attack.
