Persona 3 Reload – How to Get 40,000 Yen in the First Tartarus Run

How to Get 40,000 Yen

Midway through a 100% guide on normal myself so I can share a few pointers. Getting to the first blockade is easily the hardest:

  1. If you have a save before you went into Tartarus, load it up and buy any SP drinks you can
  2. Abuse shift to spread SP usage away from the MC. For example, don’t let the MC down every enemy weak to fire if you can shift to Junpei to hit with agi instead after the first down
  3. Aim for back attacks and all-out attacks every fight to save resources and force shuffle time respectively
  4. Shuffle time cards I tend to prioritize are; Major arcana > New Persona > Money > the rest as needed. Healing moves up if needed to save items
  5. Heal with items/shuffle time instead of using SP
  6. Break every yellow glowing thing you see. SP recovery items are rare early on, but every little bit helps

Hope these help, and good luck! It gets easier when you get more of the crew

I love games and I live games. Video games are my passion, my hobby and my job. My experience with games started back in 1994 with the Metal Mutant game on ZX Spectrum computer. And since then, I’ve been playing on anything from consoles, to mobile devices. My first official job in the game industry started back in 2005, and I'm still doing what I love to do.

  1. So you if you have gotten all your arcana time for the run, your skill cards should be rank 3 when you shuffle time. You can aquire spirit drain and drain ability cards

Spirit drain gives you set 20sp back and drain ability is a passive that doubles it.

Now you can wait until you leave and use the shrine to duplicate the cards or you can try to go for more than 1. (Yes it’s a grind but you’ll be able to manage)

Once you have it, your mp days are over. This is how managed to do it following the guide.

The first “strong” shadow that’s scripted you face, you can save before hand and shuffle time it. You have a chance at a skill 4 card that could be invigorate 2/3(can’t remember) that gives you back sp each turn as well

  2. I didn’t grind to get 40k, but I did do the run in one day and also grinded for exp.

With the items I got to sell along with some coin cards, I got ~20k give or take.

Got to around level 12 and at that point I didn’t need much SP as regular attacks would wipe most shadows out in two hits on the top floors.

I also did not go above floor 5(I think that’s the one that leads to the first mini boss?) until I had leveled up several times to the point I didn’t need to rely on elemental attacks to save on SP/healing items and make my basic attacks enough to run through the shadows.

Then I would eventually go to the next mini boss. Rinse and repeat.

And to heal, I used the items I found and then also the cups cards. Very rarely using SP for healing till the few floors before the final mini boss.

I used 7 twilight fragments to heal for the final mini boss you face against before the highest floor you can go.

But I did this because I love listening to podcasts/YT videos while grinding for exp in Jrpgs, and then fusing Personas makes it even more enjoyable for me.

  3. My first run to tartarus was rough for exp & yen just because limited sp = limited time. I ended up just scraping by getting to the guides recommended level but to make 40,000 yen I needed to sell 80% of consumables on top of materials and the starting armour. (KEEP AN ODD MORSEL BTW FOR START OF MOON SOCIAL LINK) because the guide doesnt tell you till after your tartarus run is done. Now that i’m further in the game tartarus trips are so much easier because I can activate good fortune for rare shadows using the fortune teller at the mall club and also sp is infinite as long as you’re good about collecting twilight fragments
I’m easily pulling in 100k yen now each trip (loot + selling extras after tartarus) I’m following the 100% powerpyx guide btw

  4. I did it on hard by hitting all the pillars that give you life stones/other items and opening every chest. Keep a save right before leaving Tartarus and sell all your items/life stones to see how much you net. I’m pretty sure you end up working a few jobs that make you money so as long as you’re close to 40 it should be ok.
