About Factions

There are two playable core factions in Stalcraft who are at war with each other: Stalkers and Bandits (basically your Alliance and Horde).

These factions have the same Main story quests and same available gear from the barter and share some side quests. On the other hand each faction has its own bases in Swamps and Cordon, many faction specific side quests and each faction has two unique subfactions it later splits into.

Stalkers can choose between Duty and Freedom while Bandits have a choice between Mercenaries and Covenant (religious fanatics similar to Sin, not Monolith). Each subfaction has its own base (Freedom and Covenant bases are located in the tunnels below Army Warehouses and Fool’s Path respectively), a few side quests and one (more to be added in the future) unique armor. If you manage to get this armor, you can use it even if you leave your subfaction, however if you join the other subfaction it will be locked.

Joining a subfaction unlocks ability to create/join clans, allows you to barter endgame gear and is vital for farming endgame zones as in the North (Radar Station, Yanov, Limansk) only members of your subfaction are neutral/friendly while in Backwater (Zaton) only members of your clan are friendly.

Tips and Tricks

  • You cannot change the core faction of your character.
  • You can change your subfaction but you’ll have to pay a transfer fee that is determined by population imbalance and if imbalance is too great transfer can be temporarily closed.
  • If you change your subfaction your progress subfaction rep gets reset.
  • You can freely leave a subfaction without joining another and rejoin 24 hours later with no additional penalties.
  • You cannot create squads with players who are not part of your subfaction in the open world.
  • You can create squads with players from opposing factions in the Bar and 100 Rads bar to make trading easier and play Session battles together. These squads are automatically disbanded if you leave safe zone.
  • If you’re a member of a subfaction in the South and Center of the Zone, members of your core faction and subfaction are friendly, while in the North only your subfaction remains friendly. Example: for a Duty member other Duty members and regular Stalkers will be friendly while in the North only other Duty members will remain friendly.
  • If you are not in any subfaction then in the South and Center members of both subfactions will be friendly to you while in the North all players except for your squad members are hostile.
  • You can only join/create a clan if you’re part of a subfaction and clans are locked into specific subfaction. Clans and Clan wars are an integral part of endgame progression.
  • In Backwater/Zaton only members of your clan are friendly.
  • If you want to always play with your friends, you need to pick the same core faction and the same subfaction.
  • To join a subfaction you need to get reputation level 7 of the Bar, go to the 100 Rads bar and talk to the NPC in the Centurion armor.
